This blooming number keeps calling, and as soon as I answer it hangs up. I want to phone back and give them a piece of my mind, they've been calling for days and days and almost always when ds is asleep and it is P!ING ME OFF. But I don't want to call if it's some high charging crap that's hoping you'll call back to get them lots of money! Angry
Is there a way you can find out whose number it is without calling? Or ask BT to block the number? TIA

its a welyn/hatfield/potters bar number.

MarsLady · 03/06/2006 09:58

Call BT tell them you're getting a nuisance call. They give you a number to press on your phone after 1471 and that allows them to trace it and block it. I had this once. It was an exchange computer.... eh??????

satine · 03/06/2006 09:59

Google just shows that the code is Hatfield - doesn't come up with anything else. I wonder if you can get your phone provider to block calls from a specific number?

2Happy · 03/06/2006 10:00

Potters Bar? Hmmm, dh studied there, but it was 6 years ago... D'you think I should call it and give them a piece of my mind? That BT block thing sounds good. Thanks very much for your help. I'll think about what to do, but now have to go get ds up because the blooming phone woke him up AGAIN!!!

misdee · 03/06/2006 10:02

2Happy · 03/06/2006 10:04

Heart going like the clappers......

but there was no answer.

I think I'll try again later, and if there's still no answer I'll get BT to block it.
And I might call dh and see if he still knows anyone in that area - they were all students, surely they would have moved by now. Plus, our number isn't listed... Hmmmmmm.

BeetrootOldDeer · 03/06/2006 10:09

Gillian76 · 03/06/2006 10:13

Yeah let's all phone :o

NomDePlume · 03/06/2006 10:13

2Happy, it's probably nothing.

2Happy · 03/06/2006 10:14

Ooh please, that would be fab! And if someone who's bfing/got a new baby/lives abroad could do it at antisocial hours that would be brilliant! Grin

OP posts:
ghosty · 03/06/2006 10:19

Could I help you 2Happy? I live in NZ - is that abroad enough? Grin

2Happy · 03/06/2006 10:32

Oh yes, ghosty, can I hire you?!
I called dh and he doesn't know anyone in the area (and just laughed when I asked if he was having an affair Blush).

Gillian76 · 03/06/2006 10:33

It's engaged

ghosty · 03/06/2006 10:36

What time is antisocial enough for you?

wilbur · 03/06/2006 10:39

We had a similar thing once, it turned out to be a Council fax machine that was auto dialling to send out info and had got our number mixed up with something else. It was a PITA for months and then we twigged to the BT block and problem was solved.

2Happy · 03/06/2006 10:47

ghosty - oooh, 3? 4am?
Gillian - well they weren't phoning me for a change, which is a shame as I could have put a screaming overtired ds onto the line for them Angry
wilbur - did you get the fax machine noise when that happened - with this, the line is either quiet or they just hang up straight away.

ghosty · 03/06/2006 10:49

Are they ringing you at that time Happy? Shock

2Happy · 03/06/2006 10:49

Still no answer for me.

2Happy · 03/06/2006 10:51

Sorry, ghosty, x-post. No, it's during the day/evening, but it happens so often during ds's naps that I'm so ped off I want to p them off too. (Not that that would work if it's a council phone as there wouldn't be anyone in at that time, lol! Mind you, if it is a council phone then they're really bad at picking up when theyr'e called Wink)

OMG!!! They only bloody did it again! 15 mins after ds went down (knackered because he was woken up from his morning nap) and the bastards called again!!! AngryAngryAngry
This time, though, they spoke when I picked up "is this the homeowner for (my adress)?" so I figured it was telesales and hung up - it was only when I did 1471 that I found out it was them. Well, dh isn't having an affair lol!
I've spoken to BT who would charge to block the call, but they put me onto something called silent call guard - if anyone else is having this problem, here's the number:

Here's the number 0870 444 3969

How annoying. There was a no that kept calling my mobile and handing up after 2 rings, i.e. they WANTED me to call back to see who it was and when I did it was a £1.50 a min job, it made me bloody cross. Anyway, I Googled it and found a forum with the real no for the company so called them (on their normal no) and gave them a piece of my mind and got removed from their database.
