Cold calling - bloody angry!!!!!!!!

I have just completely lost it with a company which have been cold-calling me every other day for the last two weeks.

Even though we are signed up with the telephone preference service this bloody company which I think is called 'Phone Centre' have been ringing despite me requesting 4 times for them to take my name off the list.

Asked to speak to the manager today - some jumped up little prick who would not listen to any of my questions, refused to tell me where his company was based, and refused to give me a contact no so I could pass on info to BT. I ended up screaming down the bloody phone at him that I didn't want to listen to any of his spiel, and would he kindly stop talking so I could a word in edgeways.

Apparently his company doesn't have a headquarters (WTF?), they are based in Middlesex and they only have a call centre no for people who need assistance with the mobile phones they have bought from them.

So why the F they are ringing me, I have no idea!!!

Am totally fucked off with the whole thing - how can I stop these bloody people ringing.

It wasn't even a withheld number - it came up as 01225 which I'm sure is the code for Bristol or Bath or something!!!

Am so pissed off!!!

Grrrrrrr!!!!!!!

It's irritating isn't it.

Do you call screen? I leave my phone constantly on answerphone, hover when it rings, and pick it up if it is someone I want to speak to

Norah · 19/05/2006 18:54

Can you report them to the TPS ?

TheLadyVanishes · 19/05/2006 18:54

complain about them to the tps, I've done that and not just the telephone one, kept get junk mail even i'm signed up to MPS .

We went exdirectory last year too, worth doing it tbh then that way no one gets your number unless you give it to them

JonesTheSteam · 19/05/2006 18:58

Is it possible to report them to the TPS if I don't have a contact no and I'm not completely sure of the company name though (forgive me - not being racist but the people ringing are obviously not from this country and I find it very hard to understand what they are saying Blush). I somehow don't believe that they are ringing me from Bath / Bristol or from their call centre in Middlesex!!!

We do have Caller ID, but I am waiting for people to ring about delivering a piano and becuase I didn't immediately recognise the number I just picked it up!!!!!

It's just so bloody annoying especially when you have had reassurances that you won't be bothered again!!!! Grrrrr!!!

Get yourself a whistle and use it when they call.

Or jerk their chains and waste their time every time they ring. We do this - DH has been phoned back by supervisers from two different companies for wasting their employees time. Errrr...we never asked for them to ring.

Ask the next person to ring for their home number because you want to ring them at home.

Tell them you're glad they rang because you want to get some feedback about a book idea you've had, then proceed to tell them in a loud braying voice about a book on fashionable glassware from the 19th century.

Say "oh, hang on, I've got something about to boil over on the stove" then put the receiver on the table and bugger off for ages. Come back at intervals to laugh at them for hanging on the line, if you have to.

Or ask them all about the product they're selling, sound really excited, then say "ohhhh, sorry, I think I've been wasting your time, I'm actually only 14 and can't sign up for anything".

Or tell them to fuck off.

Or you could just tell them to fuck off.

You can complain via the tps website - www.tpsonline.org.uk You should include the name of the company and the date and time of the call and they say they will follow up on your behalf.

Norah · 19/05/2006 19:00

Does your phone store numbers ? Mine stores them until I delete them.

If you can get the number I am sure you can report them to TPS - I think it is against some code that they call you when you are registered !

JonesTheSteam · 19/05/2006 19:00

Also DH is in America so it might have been him ringing.

hunkercaribou - I very nearly did tell 'em to fuck off tonight.

As it was I think I told him he was rude and arrogant because he kept on talking over me and that his promises that I wouldn't be bothered again were a load of bollocks. Blush

Hopefully the fact I was so rude means that they won't ring be again!!!

Sorry, I posted before I saw your post saying you don't have a phone number. I was taking my info from a letter the tps sent me recently. I thought you said the number wasn't withheld? The code and what you think the name is might be enough; they must be registered with companies house.

JonesTheSteam · 19/05/2006 19:02

Norah - my phone does store numbers - the display for this last call is 01225 - nothing else and I have a feeling that 01225 is the code for Bath / Bristol.

We don't get many ringing these days. Space Kitchens will never bother us again, after DH said "What, really? You're in space? Can you see rockets? Jupiter? Cor!" and continued in that vein Grin

We do get the "Can I ask you a question, if you were to replace any of your doors or windows, how many would you replace?" calls, but I quite like those - depending how much time I have, I either jerk them around or tell them it doesn't tickle my tree - when I've said the latter, they can't get off the phone fast enough to tell their colleagues about the mentalist they've just had on the line Wink

I know it's very odd, Norah.

If you dial 1471 the voice says 'You were called today at 18.38 by 0 ... 1 ... 2 ... 2 ... 5 ... to return the call press three.'

If you press three nothing happens. Bloody weird!!!!!

If you are registered with TPS tell the company which keeps phoning that you will be reporting them.

Norah · 19/05/2006 19:08

Sounds well dodgy to me !

JonesTheSteam · 19/05/2006 19:08

I did Mercy - it had no effect - the guy on the other end just kept on talking and saying that they wouldn't ring me again.

(Yeah, right!!!!!!)

Or hand the phone to one of your children, ideally if you have one aged about 3.

Sorry Jones I haven't read the whole thread. Just put the phone down on them and register with BT for that caller display facility - it's free now.
