sorry - its only in the kitchen because our washing machine and tumble dryer are in the brick shed, so laundry basket lives by the back door!

maltesers · 18/05/2006 15:02

WHAT A HUGE MASS OF OPINION AND YOU WOULD THINK THIS THREAD WAS A DULL SUBJECT ! So to add to this never ending topic .....I do bout 3 loads a day and have the basket on the landing. It is ofen overflowing with teenagers stuff so used as a general dump yard for stuff they wont hang up.
AAAAHHH! It is the bain of my life >>>hate it hate it hate it. And as for smelly dp underpants AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH ! !

Bozza · 18/05/2006 15:02

I am on my second washing machine in 9 years (and the first one was reconditioned).

sugarfree · 18/05/2006 15:04

Does anyone else have a touch of OCD about the way the washing is pegged out?
When I was 2 weeks post-section after Ds1 I watched DH from the kitchen window with white knuckles as he pegged a couple of loads out.Waited til he went to work and went out and rearranged the whole lot.
I have been known to snatch a basket from MIL on her way to the line so I could do it my way.

bundle · 18/05/2006 15:08

sugarfree, that is very sad. my life is so packed with other things i wouldn't have time/couldn't be arsed to do that,

scampadoodle · 18/05/2006 15:11

Sugarfree - I am the same. Blush

oliveoil · 18/05/2006 15:14

jeans have to go on a certain part of the line that gets the sun all day

small bits have to go near the wall so the wind won't waft them into spiders' webs

SADDDDDOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Wallace · 18/05/2006 15:38

One dirty washing basket in hall, opposite bathroom door as the bathrooom isn't big enough. An overflowing washing basket is the first thing you see when you walk into my house - lovely Grin

Would like one in my bedroom as well because we end up with piles on the floor by the door.

Wallace · 18/05/2006 15:39

Gosh yes sugarfree that is me! When my mum was hanging out my washing today she was moving the pegs onto the wrong bits of the whirlygig Shock

Jasnem · 18/05/2006 15:43

I dry on the line as much as possible (have been known to bring it in because it is snowing). Airer in the bathroom when it's really wet out. I have a tumble drier but only use for dps work trousers, and fluffing up nappies, unless I have a serious backlog.
I also have my own way of pegging out, but have never gone as far as to re do it.

MadamePlatypus · 18/05/2006 15:54

In the bathroom. Our washing machine is next to the bathroom so I sort the washing when DS is having his bath.

JonesTheSteam · 18/05/2006 15:55

One in our bedroom.
One in DD's bedroom.
One in DS's bedroom.
One in utility room (for bibs, teatowels, dusters etc.)

Stargazer · 18/05/2006 15:59

One of the selling points for this house was its utility room - magic!! As for laundry bins:

1 in main bathroom
1 in dressing room (wardrobe area our room)
1 in utility by washing machine

As for doing the washing - at least 1 load a day and I'm really, really trying to keep the ironing basket down to about 1 foot high!!! But I think today it's going to be a lot taller - so I guess tomorrow is going to be ironing day!!

Have a really super swish steam iron now - one with the large resevoir of water - works so much quicker than my old iron - it makes a dull, tedious job almost bearable Grin

PiccadillyCircus · 18/05/2006 16:04

There's been a lovely drying day here Smile.

It is quite satisfying when the balance sheet balances though Smile.

Piccalilli · 18/05/2006 16:57

small bad mummy confession...I don't iron....ever

One laundry basket in the bedroom, one in dd's bedroom at the moment but may have one in the bathroom when we move as I am FED UP of picking dh's pants up off the bathroom floor.

sugarfree · 18/05/2006 17:17

I know someone who irons everything down to bras, pants and socks.
Don't ask me how she manages to iron a bra,I was in shock and my brain melted after she told me.

ggglimpopo · 18/05/2006 17:31

Does anyone else lovingly sniff the washing when they take it off the lineBlush

PiccadillyCircus · 18/05/2006 18:26

I was lovingly sniffing the washing earlier on Grin.

Piccalli, can I warn you that having a washing basket in the bathroom does not necessarily mean that pants (or anything else) will be put in there.

Blu · 18/05/2006 18:33

Yes, will admit to obsesional hanging habits. Jeans MUST be hung upside down, not pegged through the waistband so that it doesn't dry! Ditto shirts - hang upside down. Everything streteched and smoothed out before hanging (essential for non-ironers like me).

My grandmother showed me how to hand 'body clothes' as she called them, all on the skew so the neighbours couldn't get a good look at them!!
