oops, puter went funny! sorry!!

Blu · 18/05/2006 14:43

Bozza - real wooden props Envy

My Mum still has my grandmothers old real wooden prop, and clothes horse. It will be an heirloom.

Clary - sorry - my Mum is the Lakelenad addict - but see Bundles post about the M&S pegs. They are a pleasing chubby shape.

Owners of wicker laundry baskets - don't they snag your jumpers and tights?

earlgrey · 18/05/2006 14:49

H thinks this is unbelievable - would you do it?

DDs have one set of uniform each. I put the lights on for an 18 min wash each night, then the darks for the same. Both then go into the dryer.

hunkercaribou · 18/05/2006 14:50

I have one laundry basket (a wicker one with a cotton liner thingy that divides it into whites and darks).

I do a load or two a day, most days.

I have a MUCH smaller house than most of you by the sound of it.

No scullery location in this abode - our basket is in our bedroom.

hunkercaribou · 18/05/2006 14:51

Oh, and I have a washer dryer and it is arse! I very rarely use the dryer part - it just makes the poppers on vests and babygros red hot and the rest of the garment hot and steamy.

bundle · 18/05/2006 14:51

why wash them every night?

bundle · 18/05/2006 14:52

do all the people who have multiple laundry baskets have enormous houses?

hunkercaribou · 18/05/2006 14:53

Or just lots of bruises on their shins from walking into multiple laundry baskets, eh, Bundle?!

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 18/05/2006 14:53

laundry basket in the kitchen!

All dirty clothes upstairs get chucked at the top of the stairs and brought down and sorted into lights and darks.

2 loads of washing per day.

oliveoil · 18/05/2006 14:54

I WANT A UTILITY ROOM

hunkercaribou · 18/05/2006 14:55

Me too, OO. And an airing cupboard. This house is useless for laundry purposes!

SparklyGothKat · 18/05/2006 14:55

Large one in the airing cupboard, and one in each of the bathrooms. 2 loads a days here too

hunkercaribou · 18/05/2006 14:55

We know how to live, right, MNers - laundry basket locations is where it's AT!

PMSL!

SparklyGothKat · 18/05/2006 14:56

I will have an Utility room in my new house (when we actually move in) can;t wait.

bundle · 18/05/2006 14:56

the two loads a day people: how are you drying? are any of you pegging out? how big is your carbon footprint?

SparklyGothKat · 18/05/2006 14:57

I peg out if its sunny, but I do use a tumble dryer if its wet.

serenity · 18/05/2006 14:57

I've used MILs washerdryer and it had me kicking things in frustration - completely useless. It took 3 hours to dry one load of clothes. WTF? Takes 60 minutes in my bog standard dryer.

Themoon66 - I've had 4 washing machines in (nearly) 9 years, but I rent so as soon as they start playing up I swap it for another one. It's the only reason why I don't just buy my own.

oliveoil · 18/05/2006 14:57

(confession)

When it was really hot the other weekend, I did all the towels and bedding and tons of clothes, all dried super fast on the line.

dh comes back and says you look pleased and I pointed to the huge pile of clean washing.

He just looked at me in a weird way and wandered off.

I used to have a glamourous existence ffs.

hunkercaribou · 18/05/2006 14:57

I do a mixture of pegging out, using the airer indoors and leaving to whiff gently in a blue Ikea bag Blush

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 18/05/2006 14:58

2 loads a day - if it is nice it goes on the line, if not in the dryer. Had too much rain here lately to get it out on thel ine!

hunkercaribou · 18/05/2006 14:58

OO, my constant wail to my long-suffering DH is "I used to have a liiiiiiiiiiife!" - esp when clean washing in big sweet-smelling outdoor-dried pile is the object of my satisfaction...!

mumfor1standfinaltime · 18/05/2006 14:58

I am shocked by how many wash bins people have lol!
We have one in our bedroom. The thought of one in the kitchen - eww!

I do live in tiny terrace with no garden, so have to 'hang' my laundry on the drive way on a clothes horse. Try to do a load every day and a load of nappies each day.

BettySpaghetti · 18/05/2006 14:59

We have one laundry basket which is currently in our bedroom -when the work on the house is finished we will have a utility/laundry room so may move it to there.

The utility will be on the same floor as the bedrooms which seemed to make more sense as its such a waste of time and energy to carry dirty and clean clothes up and downsatirs all the time!

sugarfree · 18/05/2006 15:00

I was told by my engineer(he might as well be mine...he's here often enough!)that white goods wear out faster these days regardless of cost to increase sales.
I'm now on my second washing machine in 15 years so I don't think thats too bad.
I think I've had Graham(the engineer)out to the current one twice.Broken washing machines cause me to hyperventilate.
Oh,and re:peg bags,I made a beeeyoootiful one from cream fabric with pink butterflies on last weekend.
I am on my way to Laundry Goddessness!Wink

Bozza · 18/05/2006 15:00

I do one load a day - occasionally two if I change beds or something. I dry mainly on an airer or the line - it is a retractable one and really needs the props. I use the tumble dryer for towels (and sometimes bedding) in winter or in summer if it is wet.
