Feeling old...

Eavesdropping on a young couple in the video shop this afternoon - she was wearing rather skimpy clothes for such cold weather and his trousers appeared somewhat large for him so his boxers were on show for all to see - she pointed at a horror film and said "that's well fat/phat?" and he said "yeah, I sh*t me load half way through."

Is this how young people go about the business of courting these days ?

The skimpy clothes make me feel ancient!I have been wearing the same old look for ages and feel that combats and a t shirt are becoming the uniform of the middle of the road mum who's lost her way.I feel a makeover coming on

nutcracker · 27/01/2004 15:55

We have a hairdressers based under our office so you can imagine the fashions that I see everyday. They like to have a fag in our doorway - nice - and at lunch time I hurried back half froze with hat/gloves/scarf etc to see a flat bellied minx with crop pants and FLIP FLOPS on. I thought, 'ooooh get some clothes on'. I am 34. Oh dear.

Janstar · 27/01/2004 15:58

Don't you remember when we were kids and went around dressed skimpily like that, how freezing we were though?

noddy5 · 27/01/2004 16:02

If my belly was still flat Im sure Id still be wearing them Im just a bitter old cow

motherinferior · 27/01/2004 16:11

I was far too respectable in my youth. I kind of made up for it later. But now I am 40...

Lou33 · 27/01/2004 21:06

I've just got back into mini skirts at the age of 37.

Angeliz · 27/01/2004 21:15

lol at this. My dp and i went for a meal before Christmas and waited in town afterwards for a taxi. I had my big coat and hood and was watching the girls IN THE SNOW swanning around in dresses and no coats. I was standing saying, "If dd comes out in years to come she had better not be dressed like that, I'll MAKE her take her coat!"
I will be the mother from hell

coppertop · 27/01/2004 21:26

LOL at this thread!

I'm so glad it's not just me. I saw a girl in a microskirt the other day and thought "Where's the rest of it???" At the ripe old age of 30 I fear I am turning into my mother!

Angeliz · 27/01/2004 21:35

i'm 30 too coppertop

popsycal · 27/01/2004 21:36

yes angeliz - but you have to remember where we live...the colder it gets, the less you have to wear.....

coppertop · 27/01/2004 21:40

I remember the queues for the taxis outside Central Station when I lived in Newcastle years ago. Those girls deserved some kind of medal. I'm guessing it's still the same up there now?

popsycal · 27/01/2004 21:42

oh yes - bt far worse...
did the bigg market exist then coppertop?

coppertop · 27/01/2004 21:45

Yep. In my student days I also ventured into Planet Earth for the 80's night, and sometimes even into the dreaded Boat! When I left, the Quayside was still the place to go on a Saturday. Now I really DO feel old!

popsycal · 27/01/2004 21:47

oooh - when were you a student...i went to planet earth as a student....

suzywong · 27/01/2004 21:49

Are. you talking about youngster who do not wear coats over their pary clothes?
Doesn't this leave them with mottled blue arms and corned beef legs? Surely not the desired effects, not to mention the pnemonia.

I know I am old because I cannot understand why young White Middle Class youths insist on speaking in a Kingston Patios or Instanbul slur stylee when waiting at bus stops. What are they trying to prove. Or is this just a London thing?

popsycal · 27/01/2004 21:50

suzy - not just dont wear coats...but wear very little at all!!!

misdee · 27/01/2004 21:51

popsycal · 27/01/2004 21:59

he did economics.....
where did you live?

coppertop · 27/01/2004 22:02

So he would have been in Northumberland Building? We did economics in the first year. I lived mostly in Fenham, just off Westgate Rd near all the motorbike shops. I was also at Heaton for a year, not far from Heaton library. Kingsley something. Kingsley Place?

popsycal · 27/01/2004 22:02
