How many of us actually meet Shona's little sidekicks criteria?
She states that all of us on Mumsnet are in our 30s, living in London and have a degree. How many people here meet that criteria?
How many are popping prozac depressed at the shit life we now have with kids?
Damn that woman is nasty!

Early twenties.
A-levels.
Coastal town in Kent.
Never had to take anti-depressants.
Never purchased a single item from Boden.
Hobnobs are disgusting, I prefer rich teas.

Haven't read the thread that was dedicated to her, but can't imagine it would make for comfortable reading. It does sound vile.

AgathaF · 12/04/2013 08:26

Xenia - have you always been so arrogant and judgemental? Your comment on treating depression shows a shocking level of ignorance, maybe you should write for the DM.

Xenia · 12/04/2013 08:32

Actually most of my family work in mental health so it is not really true I know nothing about depression. There have been huge increasese in it in the last few decades which almost directly correlate to people eating a processed diet, not being outside, not moving around ni the course of life and work. My late father (psychiatrist) always tried to get his patients to take up outdoor hobbies. Just about every depression unit of any worth always tries to get people off alcohol, chocolate, sugar white flour as they cause moods to shoot up and down but yes I agree that prozac does stabilise seratonin levels and for many saves their life and of course the best doctors would say take the pills if you need them , have the therapy and the third pillar is good diet, sun light and exercise.

MrsHelsBels74 · 12/04/2013 08:41

I'm in my 30s with a degree. I'm on antidepressants but it's not Prozac & it's not due to having children.

I've never work Boden either.

melika · 12/04/2013 08:48

I hate hobnobs!

Shop in Aldi, Lidl and Iceland.

Wear anything from charity shops.

Do I hand in my membership card as I leave the fold? Sad

Taffeta · 12/04/2013 08:54

I probably fit every MN stereotype there is going, except I don't live in London, am not in my 30's, don't take ADs and don't have a degree.

LittleBoxes · 12/04/2013 09:13

It's me! London, degree... 40s. Oh.

And no pillpopping here. Generally undepressed working mother, happily juggling much-loved/amazing child and absorbing/fulfilling job.

DamselWithADulcimer · 12/04/2013 09:17

RealMBJ: I iron my children's clothes. Sorry I have nothing more "worthwhile" to do. THink you are proving SS right...

scottishmummy · 12/04/2013 09:18

Op,your posts are snippy retort to a piece you not like.all reads a bit bulgy eyed tbh

Smellslikecatspee · 12/04/2013 09:25

Don?t live in London
Don?t have a degree, do have a professional based qualification i.e.: registered nurse

Don?t take anti-d?s but would if I needed them

I?m 39

And most of all don?t have children. . . . .

And recently found out a friend is also a MNer, in their 40s, 2 DC, no degree, no ADs as far as I know and has a willy.

AgathaF · 12/04/2013 09:32

Xenia, you have somewhat extended your probable cause of depression there, in your last post, and I agree that those things do help many people. I would add though that it is generally accepted in medical research that correlation does not prove causation.

AgathaF · 12/04/2013 09:33

Smellslikecatspee - gosh, does your friend know you know about him?

Xenia · 12/04/2013 09:38

I think my initial brief comment on the thread that people move to a junk food diet correlates to huge increases in depression levels was never meant to say that is the only cause of depression. I am sure women in the UK in the 1500s killed themselves even if they just ate beans or meat and spent the day in the sun working in the fields but there definitely is a correlation. All the ridiculous advice you see on the internet to women to eat chocolate if they feel fed up is just about the worst advice they can be given as that makes mood worse (and ditto wine).

Yes of course just because depression rates rise at the time obesity and junk food does does not show a cause BUT there is loads of research about what makes seratonin and dopamine levels increase and beta endorphins and without doubt exercise, sunlight and the like have a bit impact which is why plenty of psychiatrists say have therapy, take the pills and also get outside and move. Of course if you are so depressed you cannot leave your bed room and if you get to the shops all you want is some food, sugar, alcohol briefly to stop the pain then yes the pills are life saving.

Anyway a bit off topic.

No real mumsnetter would write "us rotten lot". They have degrees to the "us" would make them wince.

MrsBungle · 12/04/2013 09:38

30's
Degree and post grad
Scottish but live in the midlands
No Boden but dc's do
not a fan of hob jobs
Have twigs but no pebbly shit
No Prozac
Also love mn :)

complexnumber · 12/04/2013 09:48

52, degree plus post-grad, thousands of miles from N. London, no pills. And I'm a bloke.

ScrambledSmegs · 12/04/2013 09:50

Be wary of Shona, everyone. A blogger styling herself judgybitch is waging a one-blogger war of words against Ms Sibary. Nothing written on MN seems to have quite the vitriol of that blog!

Anyways, the blog alleges that SS, her DH and the DM has engaged in nefarious practices to obtain personal details and phone numbers of the blogger, and has threatened her obliquely Shock Hmm

I haven't linked to the blog because she uses a disablist word as an insult. But apart from that it's quite funny (in a vicious way), especially the piece about SS slapping her daughter.

Shagmundfreud · 12/04/2013 10:04

46, live in London. Degree. Not depressed. At the moment.

I am a skinflint and like to shop at Lidl and Aldi, and buy my clothes in charity shops. Don't have to, but choose to because I like cheepy cheepy cheep cheep.

PetiteRaleuse · 12/04/2013 10:11

That's interesting Smegs

mayihaveaboxofchoculaits · 12/04/2013 10:13

50's, northern, degree, poor, never any pills (just a sound talking to every so often!).
I'm a nice person without a chip on her shoulder, that can't be tipical of mumsnet though, can it?

mayihaveaboxofchoculaits · 12/04/2013 10:15

I don't think there is a tipical mumsnetter, but we can all help each other

DamselWithADulcimer · 12/04/2013 10:19

I'm not sure why Justine is being so heftily congratulated on her email to the DM. It's - dare I say it - really not that big a deal whether it's 2500 or 3500 posts per day, is it? To my mind, it a slightly playgroundy ner-ner-ner-ner-ner response, and is more likely to reinforce MN's bad image than to do any good...

xxDebstarxx · 12/04/2013 10:22

Juliet Shaw takes on Daily Mail lies. Absolutely shocking how she was treated but well done her for taking them on.

I am in my 30s, have a degree, don't live in London, do take ADs, don't eat biscuits (prefer crisps), finally get my tea hot now my kids are teens, no idea what Boden is.

Sparklingbrook · 12/04/2013 10:22

Well it's a big deal that they are getting their facts wrong, and Justine wants to correct them Seems fair enough to me. If it was my business I would feel the same Damsel.

stripeyjimjams · 12/04/2013 10:26

27 years old, in Scotland, one degree, plus postgrad and a PhD on the way. Oh, and I take Sertraline, not Prozac. And also take exception to SS's suggestion that taking AD's is to be lumped in with bitching and cliqueyness as a negative personality trait.

And I've been totally blown away by the kindness, support and good humour of so many MNers since I joined.
