Lighten up RobinW - just because people express strong opinions does not mean to say that they are bitches or bigots, those names are reserved for those who like to mud-sling. Are we to believe that you never get angry? That you are perfect and highly civilised? Well then I bow down to you, obviously here on Mumsnet we are not worthy to be in your presence!

Robinw, canny on, you're pushing it a wee bit, the country does smell, but what else do you expect, the sweet smell of Roses, come on, please. As for civilised people, I think you should take a long hard look at what you are saying, and another thing, "people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones". I personally take offence at what YOU have said about the Rural Community. This is just the sort of attitude I and others in the rural areas come up against, complete and utter ignorance as to what the countryside is!.
I'm going to have to leave this or I'd become very UNCIVILISED.

Robinw - I disagree entirely, I moved to the countryside 18 months ago and LOVE it - having previously lived in a town. Country life is wonderful - everyone talks to you, makes you welcome, invites you to join in etc etc. The air is clean (Ok it can smell!), generally life is 100% safer, we are just 20 minutes from the coast, surrounded by beautiful countryside. The schools are excellent, house prices generally more reasonable (I know this might start another argument about local people not being able to afford properties when outsiders move in!) so this means - & sorry to mention that 'other' subject, that one salary can support the mortgage etc.

Just my opinion anyway - but yes, I do miss shops!

Have I missed something? Have we stopped being supportive on Mumsnet? What the heck has this got to do with the price of pampers other than that robinw is obviously setting out to provoke and enrage? Don't rise to it! We are all "civilised" beings - we don't have to do this. Peace and love girls.

I for one will think twice before posting on any thread with robinw. She comes across as very angry and aggressive and has upset a lot of people with her nasty comments.

Here comes the psychobabble (thanks for awarding my opinions that epithet selja) : Hurray for a place where we can anonymously express our nastiness and agression. Its a particularly damaging myth that women are docile, mutually supportive etc. If we pretend that this is the case, the critical negative side that all of us have somewhere comes out in ways that can be damaging either to others (cliquishness is one expression) or to oneselves. Lets all get honest, good for you robinw you nasty agressive urbanite you .

PS I totally disagree with you.

PS2 I'm off to start a discussion on toddler taming and how I think its ".............."

Methinks robinw is having a bad day/week/life...
what's the deal here? Are you really directing your anger at the whole site or is it just a specific few? If you really don't like how the messageboard works, don't post on it. I don't really comprehend your message at all, even despite the typos...

And I have to say the city smells too, you know...mmm love that fresh carbon monoxide in the morning! And who needs a shop when you can shop online these days!?

This should be a nasty-free zone. It is possible to express opinions without being bitchy. Don't forget you don't always get the same meaning reading something as was intended by the writer.

Don't take everything so personally and lighten up!

Ladies - perhaps a tad over-reaction to Robinw's posting methinks. OK, the b&b language may have riled, but talk about taking the bait!

On the thread about sahm's/wm's I think Robinw was trying to diffuse the situation but was shouted down for her efforts, so she is only playing to the minority who seem to want a fishwives brawl.

As Candy said, let's get back to being the supportive Mums that we are!!

If robin w was trying to diffuse the situation then why oh why start this thread. If anyone wanted a brawl I think it was her. I wasn't going to post here as I didn't want to take the bait but I don't think there is any exuse for her behaviour.
I think she needs to apologise for this as everyone on the working mums thread had already before she even started this thread.
I can only think she was dissapointed that the situation was fine again and every one had apologised . So she decided to start this thread and cause uproar.
BTW I don't think anyone went as far as to actually call anyone else a bitch or a bigot on the other thread. It was mostly just differing opinions.

Robin, personally I can't stand the town because it smells horrid (exhaust fumes and dogdirts on the pavement!), there aren't enough civilised people around, and there isn't a decent moor for miles!

I moved to Dorset 2 years ago and love it! Even when they've sprayed the fields with muck and when the old women tut at our lack of church attendance! Although they did invite me to join the WI, bless them (I didn't).

I second Star on this one, robin has always been supportive and friendly to me. I think that she just got fed up with the arguing on the working mums thread. Mumsnet is normally such a happy, supportive and reassuring place to visit, not to mention a vast treasure trove of knowledge and experience. It's the place that you go and visit to escape the misery, stress and aggression of the real world, not to find it. So, lets put it all behind us and be friends again (I don't mean that to sound patronising BTW). Lets keep the spirit of Mumsnet alive and not make everyone want to defect to Babyworld. Love, peace and the Mumsnet way!

P.S. I love the town and the country, and I'm lucky because I live somewhere inbetween.

Iam new here and have seen no evidence of that.
Only robinw has resorted to nastiness as far as I can see. I really don't see how this was her having a little joke. IMO it was a deliberate and well thought out attempt to provoke and enrage.She alse hijacked another thread at the same time and insulted another member called lisav .
I had thought this site was friendly until I came across this women and I don't agree that just because she has been here over a yr she should be allowed to call anyone a bigot or a bitch. I suggest she reads the rules of this site and hope she shows a better example to her children.
