What ever happened to vests?

My mind was wandering this afternoon, and I remember wearing a vest under my clothes until I was old enough to wear a "bra" (crop top). I dont know any child now who wears a vest (my neice, cousin and goddaughter dont). Plus I dont remember seeing any in any shops. So did they just go out of fashion or can you still get them?

you can still get them I buy them for dd as she has cp and feels the cold. for school and in cooler weather she waers the little bra like ones as she likes them.

My dd's wear vests, not every day, and not in the summer, but when it's a fresh spring day to give a bit of extra warmth, or on very cold winter days.

You can get them in M&S or Asda.

Witchycat · 30/04/2006 19:48

My ds wears them. He's nearly 5. The supermarkets do them as do Mothercare, Woolworths, M&S. I thought they all still did.

Maybe it's just the norm still in the cold North where we are(Yorkshire) ?

My ds wears a vest, only started because my mum suggested that she put us in them.

My ds wears a vest under tops, sleeveless ones bought from Boots and Tesco and in the summer I put him in a short sleeved one and nappy on at night time and summer sleeping bag. Got those from Mothercare but had to hunt.

My ds wears a vest when it's cold and he's 3 - I'm now feeling really old fashioned!! Bought them in John lewis.

Gingerbear · 30/04/2006 19:58

My DD wears vests - she will do until June!
M&S Tesco or Asda hers are from.

Angeliz · 30/04/2006 20:01

My dd's wear vest every day apart from when it's really hot. I'm still waiting for that to happen this Year!Grin

Katemum · 30/04/2006 20:04

My two both wear vests.

Bozza · 30/04/2006 20:06

Think it depends on the child. DS has a pack of vests but rarely wears them - he is a real hot bod. It's been shorts and t-shirts all weekend for him because he wanted to wear his new sandals. He's 5. DD is nearly 2 and she has been out of them for about a month now. She loves cardigans so quite often atm is wearing a t-shirt and a cardigan.

Neither of them wear them at night ever and both are now in short pjs. OTOH their cousin was here tonight and he was dressed into a vest and long pjs.

misdee · 30/04/2006 20:10

my dd's all wear vests in the colder months. usually dont need them from about may to sept. Always start the new school year buying vests as they outgrow them in the summer.

BettySpaghetti · 30/04/2006 20:16

I thought all kids wore vests!
DD (6)wears them in the colder months. DS is still in the poppered vests/bodysuits but will be 2 in the summer so will probably progress to normal vests for the winter

Frenchgirl · 30/04/2006 20:34

dd (6 and a half) still wears vests (not in the summer) during the day
I get the Petit Bateaux ones from la Redoute, very soft cotton (with matching knickers), they're lovely

kid · 30/04/2006 20:38

DD is 7 and wears a vest. DS is 4, he has vests but never wears them, unless I watch him get dressed. He doesn't like wearing pants either Shock

FrannyandZooey · 30/04/2006 20:39

Pruni has sex in them. All the time. You can't stop her.

cheltenhamgal · 30/04/2006 20:50

you can get them in woolies, asda, bhs, next, gap, tesco, etc but my dd doesn't like them as they always come untucked, she is more than happy to just wear her polo top and sweatshirt. and they go skanky so quickly :)

I thought all kids wore vests too, must ask my friends IRL!
ds1 is 3.5 and wearing 4-5 size (woolworths I think), no idea what size they go up to.
ds2 is in popper vests, but then he is only 3mo :)

lilstarry1 · 30/04/2006 22:58

At 22 I'm still wearing my vest Blush. Not in the warmer months, but when it's cold! Everyone I know giggles at the fact I wear one, but I'm always smug when they're cold and I'm not.

My LO is only 13 weeks so she's not in vests yet, but I imagine she will be! Just sensible and practical. I do know they are deemed old fashioned by a lot of people, but I care not for common opinion :)

thewomanwhothoughtshewasahat · 30/04/2006 23:00

dds wear vests in winter. and most of the spring when it's such a bloody awful one like this.

QE · 30/04/2006 23:01

I have always dressed my kids in vests. Might have to reconsider, however, now dd is almost 15 and eldest ds is getting on for 13.

Linnet · 30/04/2006 23:05

My dd1 is 8 and has always worn a vest in the winter months. I usually buy them in Adams

eidsvold · 30/04/2006 23:26

my dds wear vests - in winter as an extra layer and during the summer as their top at times... Bonds ( aussie brand) do very trendy vests that can be worn as tops.

mumball · 01/05/2006 01:53

Are we talking vests for older children? As you can get vests everywhere for younger ones!
