What ever happened to vests?

My mind was wandering this afternoon, and I remember wearing a vest under my clothes until I was old enough to wear a "bra" (crop top). I dont know any child now who wears a vest (my neice, cousin and goddaughter dont). Plus I dont remember seeing any in any shops. So did they just go out of fashion or can you still get them?

I have noticed and increase in the crop tops and undies sets for girls = perhaps a way of doing away with vests.... But even though they have them in dd1's size - she still has a vest.

My boys wear vests every day.
About this time of year, when it starts warming up I let them leave it off,but they always wear one for school as they do indoor PE in pants and vest.
They are in year2 (7yo),I think they may start refusing to wear one next year, when they are in juniors though.
I usually buy them in Tescos or Woolworths.

Both my kids wear vests. I wouldn't feel right putting a shirt/jumper on a child without a vest.

Nottingham.
I will put a vest on my DD when she is older, it doesn't feel right just putting a top on them.
I was just remembering that every time I have looked after a girl I know (ages ranging from 2 to 9), none of them wear a vest, just whatever they are wearing.
Wondered if it was a dying fashion!

both of mine wear vests dd1 8 and dd2 is 5 but we are very particular about what vest they agree to wear. dd2 has half a draw full of them but tells me they all itch! we have this fetching purple one we brought in france which is all we will wear at the moment, luckily I brought 3 before we came home because the similar white ones itch [desperate mad woman smiley]. I'm waiting for the school to complain about the colur ruining the school uniform.

My dds both wear vests & tights most of the year..not as bad as my mother...Grin

DD always wears a vest in the colder months (Peter Jones is our vest merchant!). We spent Easter break in a much warmer climate so vests weren't worn. Have come back out of the habit, but the cold wind of the past few days has let me know it's still too early here to pack them away.

FaZ? Huh? What did I miss?

Back on topic, both my boys wear vests. They even have special merino wool ones to wear when it's properly cold out.

Flamesparrow · 01/05/2006 12:37

My godchildren wear vests (eldest 12, I think she did vest, crop top thingies, then now teeny bras). DD is only 2 (god no, she's nearly 3!!! Shock), and does when it is cold - neither of us tend to feel the cold though, so I'm not fanatical about it.

I do find it hard finding little girl vests with proper straps though - I don't think 3 year olds should be in spaghetti straps...

Mine all wear vests until the weather is warm. Regarding those crop tops for girls - what age did yours start wearing them? Noticed that one of dd's friends had one on recently - she is 9 but very small for her age (so doesn't need it for modesty's sake) but is very precocious.

Cheers Franny Grin
Only lovely pointelle lacy velvet-trimmed numbers from Jigsaw.
My greying string vests don't get an outing on such occasions.

Peachyclair · 01/05/2006 13:37

Mine all wear vests, you can get them anywhere- woolies etc. We're in the south west too.

Lst summer I forgot to take them out of them even on the baking days.... Blush.... poor mites
