1.Send letter reg move or to cancel service to...

Gas
electric
water
phone
council tac
phone
broad band/dial up
sky
t.v licence
banks(for each account send a separate and signed notice of change)
credit/store cards/catalogues
loan companies
ermm.sure ther'll be more..

2.ring round for quotes on removal firms - these vary greatly IME, best to look round and dont just go with cheapest as your furniture may not get their in one piece!(i used Sandersons- teesside last year and will prob use this time too)..also check when they need paying (best paying when work is done not upfront!)do they charge for travelling time, how many hours minimum and insurance for your valuables

  1. gut your present house!
we have a box of stuff which has remained unopened since our first house 8 years ago!..yes i really need it, but best to chuck all rubbish now so you dont get charged extra to move it, then chuck it anyway! plus, you might be able to make some cash selling stuff on ebay/car boots thru paper etcSmile

4.try to arrange for children to be looked after, its difficult for us and not nice for them being shoved here and there while furniture being moved around.

erm...someone else help me out, i know theres loads more and im gunna need it in next few weeks!

evesmama-Grin. she said i had no bisiness to be doing it before we exchanged, but we were supposed to exchange yesterday and most utility companies need 5 days notice that you are moving in.
stroppy cow.

seriouslystressedspacecadet · 26/04/2006 09:28

*business, my spelling.

EvesMama · 26/04/2006 13:27

Hi there, been to the solictors this morning as he wanted me to look at a right of way on the map and whether it goes through our new garden. Thankfully it doesn't. But there are problems as the vendors have no paperwork for any of the extensions/new windows/conservatory Shock Still hope to exchange on Friday though! Think they have to pay for something callled an indemnity insurnace whatever that is!

Then I really will start to pack. Considering paying extra to have them come and pack for us.....

EvesMama · 26/04/2006 13:41

what a nitemare..you could turn detective yourself and go to your local councils website..go to planning permission and put in relevent details ie address, persons name etc..it 'should' bring up anything thats been applied for..if not try ringing them for advice..be very careful cos you may have to 'remove; things if they havent had them permittedSad

OP posts:
cece · 26/04/2006 13:53

They have been up too long for the council to do anything about it but there is a covenant - which it looks like they didn't get permission for the extensions. (supposed to get their permission for additions to the property).

They have also put a new window in the back of the house quite recently and there doesn't seem to be any building regs done for it. So there si a worry it could make the wall collapse!

I can't beleive why people do these things without the relevant permissions!?

EvesMama · 26/04/2006 19:07

our second from last house which we happily lived in for almost two years had had the joining wall between dining and living room put in by previous owners b4 we bought..we found out from the people who bouhgt it off us that somewhere alomg the line when the joining wall was removed, there was nothing supporting it so ceiling and first floor could have come crashing down!

something which jogged my memory on here..
personally i would prefer sparky/plumber to remove and re-install my cooker/washer/dryer and dishwasher..so that means one lot on moving day and another lot either later that day or nextSad..had a leak in last house, so dont trust ourselves now!!
