summer is coming and i'm sure all good mothers are now wondering what their little darlings will be wearing on the beach this year....

do we go for:

the neoprene stay warm option? (note: no nappy insert)

the baby swimsuit/trunks (with built in nappy)

the sun protection suit (no nappy)

bog standard trunks/costume

just a swim nappy

nothing

obviously will be using sun cream and a gigantic hat..... your thoughts please, on this pressing issue!

georginarf · 17/04/2006 22:36

oh god yes lots of my Kiwi family including my dad have had melanomas removed. all from wandering around barefoot and wearing not much in the sun when they were kids

there's a happy medium on this, as with most things. DD went brown even though she'd barely been in direct sunlight. I was very jealous

mykidsmum · 17/04/2006 22:36

do people do that?

jampots · 17/04/2006 22:36

classy!!!!!!!!!!!

starlover · 17/04/2006 22:36

used to what? being "used" to the sun won't stop you getting cancer!

no tan is a healthy tan

I don't hink you should let kids be out in scorching sun all day anyway. What about sunstroke!

I make sure mine out of sun at hottest time to protect from cancer. Instead they go and have a few fags in the pub.

cod · 17/04/2006 22:37

ah tou old boringo

:)

cod · 17/04/2006 22:38

starlover · 17/04/2006 22:38

erm well I wasn't suggesting that he'd be out in the scorching sun all day.

just that in the summer we may visit the beach,... and what do people reckon on all the options

it was really meant to be just a light hearted chat!

my tan comes from a bottle.

Flum · 17/04/2006 22:39

tan in a bottle - carcenogenic.

cod · 17/04/2006 22:40

ok so how old?

my mate in oz did send ds3 a billabong sun top thing
he didnt like ti but it was BIRGHT yella so he coudlnt wander off far!

i like the boots swim nappies - they are fabric so oyu need a couple but are cute and comfy
so uv shorts leeved t shirt and trunks

Flum · 17/04/2006 22:40

wouldn't worry about skin cancer too much in UK. its not as if we get that much sun!!!

better things to worry about non?

VeniVidiVickiQV · 17/04/2006 22:41

I think you should keep children indoors. All the time. That'll stuff up these companies making a mint out of paranoia, er i mean cancer risks....Wink

georginarf · 17/04/2006 22:41

oh life is flipping carcinogenic as far as I can make out

starlover · 17/04/2006 22:43

flum... it isn't about how much sun you get, it's the UV in the sun. your skin can be affected by it even on cloudy days!

ok, so the risks aren't as high as in hotter climes, but it's still a very real risk.

I really just wanted to know if it's worth shelling out £20 odd quid for something, or whether it's just as easy to keep them lathered with sun cream which I suspect it may be!
