babies on the beach.... what should they wear???

summer is coming and i'm sure all good mothers are now wondering what their little darlings will be wearing on the beach this year....

do we go for:

the neoprene stay warm option? (note: no nappy insert)

the baby swimsuit/trunks (with built in nappy)

the sun protection suit (no nappy)

bog standard trunks/costume

just a swim nappy

nothing

obviously will be using sun cream and a gigantic hat..... your thoughts please, on this pressing issue!

btw i dont own one, dont go to th beach that often. dd3 will be wearing shorts and t-shirt and i will frantically be putting her hat on over and over, dd1+2 will be wearing similar or swimming cossies and hats. loads of suncream if i can find one they dont react to this year, otherwise they just cover up. maybe i should buy sunsuits...........

even the sunscreen mosse stuff (proderm or something) caused a reaction last year. i am going to the GP for advice, i thin k we have tried all suncreams now.

tbh ds won't really be in the water as he's only little.... so think suncream should suffice.

who'd have thought this would kick off?

sorry cod, my dsis uses one for her neice, another one with sensitive skin. i just cant afford 3 of them. i think they are a good idea as they are quick drying.

but i very much doubt we'll be at the beach this year.

I bought a new sunsuit from Ebay for a couple of £. Was wondering if you should put a swim nappy under. Nothing underneath wouldn't work if your lo did a poo, would it?

hmm, DD (16 months) was on the beach in NZ 6 weeks ago and she seemed fine in a wide brimmed hat, loose cotton clothing (and swimsuite where appropriate) & sunblock/cream. The sun is really fierce there as well. I think those sunsuits prob very useful if your child really reacts to the sun, otherwise I'm not sure I could be bothered!

so I would say bog standard trunks, hat, cream, and shade thing on the pram

how old? we took ds2 to the beach when he was about 12 weeks old. he just had a short legged outfit and nappy and was under the sun tent (that i will NEVER EVER use again) when we go this year (lo - i mean if) he will just have trunks on and lots of cream with an enormous hat, hes 1 now btw

yes sun cream and suitable bathing suits (bikini for dd and trunks for ds)

In our family we're just grateful to get some colour

Thought Vitamin D good for childrens skin.

Anyway spf creams are thought to be carcenogenic now. Read it in the Week.
