How do people's appearances affect the way you view / treat them?

This is probably a difficult question to answer objectively but I'm interested.

For example - would you be likely to have sympathy with someone / cut someone slack if they were obviously pregnant?

Do people's age / clothes / weight have a bearing on how you treat them or views you may form about them either consciously or subconsciously?

i don't hate 'em, i just cut 'em a wide berth b/c you never know how they'll act.

i used to drink too damned much, but i always kept to myself b/c in the states a lot of people carry guns and you just never know when some psycho will jump the couch.

joash · 23/03/2006 22:55

nulnulcat ...OMIGOD..vomit or what.

Reminds me of the time years ago whan I worked in a local community centre. We had a women who never washed anything (let alone her minge). She thought that she was pregnant, but didn't have periods so couldn't be sure and one of my colleagues was a midwife. The woman asked the midwife if she'd have a 'prod' around her tum to see if she cold tell anything and assumed the position on a bench. I was sat near the womans head and her feet were facing the door - just as someone opened the building doors and I got the full effect of being down-wind of her 'aroma'. [vomit icon needed here].

nulnulcat · 23/03/2006 22:55

Was she sprogged up? Can you imagine? Those poor midwives! Bet they have some stories!

joash · 23/03/2006 23:01

I must judge people based on their appearances because I used to have a woman who worked for me. I was in sales at that time and she'd expressed an interest in joining the company. I interviewed her at my home (office based there). She was absolutely imacculate, did a fantastic job, earned herself (and me) loads of money and we did become good friends in work. When she had been with me for a while, whe invited me and the rest of the team to her house .. big mistake. I have never been in anything so disgusting in my entire life. The smell hit us as soon as we walked through the gate. The furniture and floor was literally covered in food (fresh and not-so-fresh), faeces, even a pool of what looked like dried vomit. In the middle of all this were her sample and product bags. She'd made tea and handed round mugs covered in dried on gunk....we couldn't get away fast enough, and yet, had I interviewed her at home (as I had the rest of the team) there was no way I would have taken her on.

joash · 23/03/2006 23:02

Yep - she was pregnant (her 6th at that time).

collision · 23/03/2006 23:03

no tip! Rich people are always the meanest as well!

expatinscotland · 23/03/2006 23:06

Gag!

nulnulcat · 23/03/2006 23:13

i dont think its just appearances we judge people on for an example this is an anonymous website and i am new to it but i already have made my mind up what i think some people are like on it and i may be totally wrong, but i have made my mind up on a few comments they might have made

expatinscotland · 23/03/2006 23:15

yeah, but at least you can't smell them online. :o

notasheep · 23/03/2006 23:20

Or see them all dressed head to foot in identical Boden that is now out of stock!!!!!!!

nulnulcat · 23/03/2006 23:23

true expat you wouldnt want to smell my feet when i just got home from work!! really must get new work shoes!!

nulnulcat · 23/03/2006 23:23

whats boden?

nulnulcat · 23/03/2006 23:24

im a chav by the way so is it something i would wear? not a scummy chav just a girl who loves her labels and her sparkly stuff!

expatinscotland · 23/03/2006 23:27

get you some of that scholl's shoe spray stuff, nul. i'm religious about it! i spray all my shoes before AND after putting them on.

notasheep · 23/03/2006 23:29

Boden is a label

expatinscotland · 23/03/2006 23:30

I looked at the Boden catalogue, but it seemed like a rip off. I'm too American to be ripped off for a label. Unless it's one plastered across my norks or sprayed all over my handbag like graffiti. :o.

Socci · 23/03/2006 23:32

Gosh - this thread has really taken off. It is interesting to read all of your views. What started me thinking about this was a memory of someone saying it is wrong to argue with / upset someone when they are pregnant (perhaps because hormones cause you to be more "on the edge"?)

OP posts:
nulnulcat · 23/03/2006 23:33

i should just wear socks with my trainers perhaps! i spray dior addict in them! got bought some before i got pregnant and cant wear it now it smells funny on me but it makes great shoe freshener!!!!

expatinscotland · 23/03/2006 23:34
