I think it's a horrible painting...really creepy. Haven't read the story. Wasn't there a thread on this a couple of years ago?

BonyM · 20/03/2006 22:20

That's horrible - gave me the shivers. Wish I hadn't looked at it now Socci - it'll give me nightmares.

Off to find a cheerful thread...

Socci · 20/03/2006 22:21

Most likely - I haven't been here that long yet. Tht thing is, since I looked at it I have a really bad headache. I told dh about it (who is a real sceptic) and he said it was silly, until he saw it and suggested I keep our children away...

georginarf · 20/03/2006 22:21

It's a hideous painting
The close up of the boy makes me think of George Bush (shudder)

the supernatural stuff is all bobbins as far as I'm concerned

BadHair · 20/03/2006 22:22

Horrible - story must be utter tosh but nasty and very creepy painting.

georginarf · 20/03/2006 22:22

the headache is caused by the background - all those dots on black, and the text is really hard to read. that's alL!

Socci · 20/03/2006 22:22

I wonder what expatinscotland would think - she seems to know a lot about the paranormal.

OP posts:
getbakainyourjimjams · 20/03/2006 22:25

There was a thread on here about it. And the house fires one whee the house burns down leaving just one painting of a boy crying.

Socci · 20/03/2006 22:31

I hope you're right georgina (about the headache!). I am easily suggestible. Jimjams - I expect the older thread was before my time here. I will try to find it (but archives are not working atm)

OP posts:
georginarf · 20/03/2006 22:33

am sure I'm right about the headache. Could feel my eyes hurting like mad as I read, but was definitely the background/text combo. very bad for the eyes and head

I am not completely sceptical about paranormal matters, I just think this one is nonsense. That painting would give anyone the creeps, it's vile

pebblemum · 20/03/2006 22:37

That painting gave me the creeps. Sent shivers down my spine and couldnt bring myself to look at the photos.

Imagine having that hanging in your hall, at least it would scare unwanted visitors away Grin

BadHair · 20/03/2006 22:38

The more I think about it, and believe me I'm thinking about it far more than I want to, the more I'm convinced that it's something a psychologist put together purely to disturb.
The person who painted, or constructed, the picture clearly knows how to tap into a collective subconscious dread. I am not prepared to open it again for a better look at this time of night, but I'd like to know what a psychologist would make of the images. Blank faces, dolls, dark backgrounds - classic horror film images.
The story is just rubbish (let's face it, if something gave your kids the horrors you'd burn it, not sell it on ebay), but the pic is deliberatley disturbing.
Yuk.

Blossomhill · 20/03/2006 22:38

A bit confused as to why you would show it to others if it gave you a headache???

please don't take offence by that!!!!!

Blossomhill · 20/03/2006 22:38

btw i haven't looked.

Socci · 20/03/2006 22:39

I agree BH.

OP posts:
Socci · 20/03/2006 22:41

Blossomhill - because I am sure the headache is caused by something else (it must be!)

OP posts:
Blossomhill · 20/03/2006 22:42

eerie. i won't look as have nightmares (and possibly a headache!)

georginarf · 20/03/2006 22:42

BadHair is right

BadHair · 20/03/2006 22:48

Right, have forced myself to look again. Am now not scared. A quick Google found \link{http://www.castleofspirits.com/hauntedpainting.html\this}, which, for those who don't want to see the damned thing ever again, basically says:

"Bill (Stoneham, the artist) tells of how he painted Hands Resist Him in 1972, the boy in the picture being himself, the hands being other lives, the windows/door being a thin veil between waking and dreaming with the small doll like girl being the guide through.

Bill does not know how his painting ended up abandoned as described by the Ebay.com seller, but he does know a gallery owner where the painting was originally displayed and sold at, and a Los Angeles Times critic, who reviewed the show, were both dead within one year of the painting being shown."

A dead gallery owner and an expired critic do not a haunted painting make.

Phew, I can sleep tonight!

spilla · 20/03/2006 22:55

Horrible

It immediately made think of the pre-show to the Haunted House at Alton Towers where that little girl is singing that creepy tune! Anyone know the one I mean?

misdee · 20/03/2006 22:56

i started the other thread on halloween a few years ago. it was originally about crying boy/girl pics. it spooked a few people.

starlover · 20/03/2006 22:58

i still don't get it though! it's just a picture...... what's so spooky?

a made up story about it being haunted? come on!

WideWebWitch · 20/03/2006 22:58

Have only skimmed both threads but pile of cack imo: crap creepy painting, spooky story = urban myth, nothing more.

Socci · 20/03/2006 22:59

I'm sure it's made up - the pictures don't prove what the seller says.

OP posts:
starlover · 20/03/2006 23:01

where it says that the last 2 pictures were caught on motion sensor NIGHT camera.... that's totaly bollocks...

you can see they've just edited it with a red wash in photo shop or something.
and if it's night then why is the boys arm brightly lit?

i mean, if you're going to do a hoax do a decent job of it! lol
