No, MI, your girls really are stunning. and I am not being polite here.

bundle · 19/03/2006 17:48

Shock some of those competitions are $195 just to enter..no wonder the parents are sooo pushy Shock

motherinferior · 19/03/2006 17:50

Thank you Grin

Can't imagine getting them to comply with someone else's ideas of how to pose, though.

fairyfly · 19/03/2006 17:59

I'll put the money in a savings account until they are old enough to enjoy it, yeh right.

I'd be straight down the travel agents and wouldn't even take my little stepford sons.

7up · 19/03/2006 18:02

i think money is paid to the child in their name, i could be wrong of course

HappyMumof2 · 19/03/2006 18:09

I see what you mean about the Elisabeth Smith website, hm, that makes a mockery of the whole idea of modelling - none of those children are beautiful by any stretch of the imagination Shock

they must take anyone on!

7up · 19/03/2006 18:11

have a look at the cheeky kids one then, its even worseShock

Enid · 19/03/2006 18:13

I was on a shoot once where we were photographing a sweet 9 month old baby girl. She was sitting on a mat on the grass and grabbed some grass and tried to eat it. Her dad whacked it out of her mouth and said 'dont eat that you dirty bitch they'll never use you again'

nice eh

7up · 19/03/2006 18:14
Shock

I wonder how many child models actually earn enough to enable the mother to be a SAHM, though. Very, very few, I would imagine. And how hard would the child have to be working to enable a 'better standard of living'?

Yukkety yuk yuk, really.

Enid · 19/03/2006 18:15

no its not 7up

hunkermunker · 19/03/2006 18:15

There are some FLKs on there and no mistake!

Enid, that's appalling - I'd have clouted the dad, hard.

Enid · 19/03/2006 18:16

mind you i spose if its put in your childs account you'd be able to countersign and spend.

i do chat to the mums on the modelling thread who are quite into it but they dont come across as pushy , well praps a couple are more into it than others.

i sent my ds photo off when i was pisd one night and had been reading it but i got put off by the travelling, castings, disappointment, sweaty train trips. im too lazy and itd cost me a fortune to go a 5min casting

Enid · 19/03/2006 18:20

needless to say we never booked her again

tbh, we treated the child models very very well, my point ahs always been that clients (and I was one of them) are absolutely BRUTAL about your child behind your back and sometimes to your face.

I have seen mothers leave castings utterly crushed and it saddens me to think tehy might not think their child is beautiful anymore..

Enid · 19/03/2006 18:21

at the end of the day selling lots of pale pink cardigans is more important to the client than your feelings.

welshboris · 19/03/2006 18:22

That American baby beauty paegent website is a paedophiles paradise

Dressing babies and little girls up in provactive clothes and caking their faces in seducitive makeup

Parents pimping their daughters out

Turns me sick

ds was accepted by a modelling agency as a baby & I'm pretty sure dd would be too, but tbh, I couldn't be bothered with all the farting about. I don't like the idea of travelling, waiting around etc.

I suppose if you make it become your vocation in life and put your heart and soul into it then it's worth doing but tbh I don't think that's fair on the kids (too much pressure) and I kind of feel that some of those parents need to get their own lives and stop living through their kids........

lanismum · 19/03/2006 18:54

earnings are paid straight into the childs account, not that this would stop the parent getting the money out if they wanted to.

whitesnow · 19/03/2006 18:57

I am new to mumsnet. It was recommended to me as a friendly, chatty forum.

After reading this thread, I am going to delete my registration.

I cannot believe people are spending their time critising other parents for being superficial and focused on appearances, and then go on to visit baby modelling agencies' websites and criticise (!) the babies' looks.

That is not only judgmental, but hypocritical and beyond spiteful. To say I am shocked is an understatement. Needless to say I won't be visiting this website again.

cod · 19/03/2006 18:57
