Do you think NEXT are being a bit uppity asking payment for their catalogue?

I've always thought it is rather cheeky. I know I have the choice whether to have it, but loads of other catalogues pour through the door for nothing. I wonder if they'd like us to pay to look round the shop?

yes I think it's pissy and completely put me off it

georginarf · 16/03/2006 19:42

I've had a few next catalogues and never paid - they don't really seem to make much of an effort to chase after their three quid of whatever it is

I think it's really cheeky

TinyGang · 16/03/2006 19:43

They've just sent me the invoice for £3.50.

tassis · 16/03/2006 19:43

yeah, puts me off getting it too. i look online.

expatinscotland · 16/03/2006 19:44

yes, that's why i don't buy it/use it.

Twiglett · 16/03/2006 19:45

what expat said Grin

TinyGang · 16/03/2006 19:45

Yes, online is the obvious alternative; I just prefer to flick through a book given the choice.

yES, IT REALLY PEES ME OFF

oops!

ja9 · 16/03/2006 19:49

same as georginarf. i dont think i've ever actually paid it...

i do find it annoying.

BettySpaghetti · 16/03/2006 19:50

I refuse to pay to shop - its like a shop charging an admission fee.

fisil · 16/03/2006 19:50

You say "I know I have the choice whether to have it" TinyGang - well I didn't. One just miraculously appeared at my house. I thought it was a kind gift and opened it and looked through. Then a few months later got a bill for £3.50!

starlover · 16/03/2006 19:51

yes... don't order online! it makes you open an acocunt and then they send you the directory and then invoice you for it even though you never even asked for it!

I had to threated to get the police involved for harassment because they DID chase their fucking £3.50
I suggested if they were that worried that they just came round and picked their bloody catalogue up again as I had never even asked for it

TinyGang · 16/03/2006 19:52

That's very cheeky. Hope you didn't pay!

FrannyandZooey · 16/03/2006 19:56

I go and look at the catalogue in the store, then order the items to be delivered to the store. You don't pay for the catalogue or postage that way.

Crikey I am such a tightwad aren't I?

starlover · 16/03/2006 19:58

I don't ever even go in there any more. last time I went in was to spend the £15 worth of vouchers they sent me for being such arses

Kidstrack2 · 16/03/2006 20:20

I have used the directory for 2 yrs now and i always get the 3.50 refunded back onto my account when i order from the new cataloge at the time, however they still get you back by thier delivery charge!

NannyL · 16/03/2006 20:37

cath kidstone also charges for her catalouge

I too think its cheeky.... argos give theres away for free and that must be about the same size.

For that reason i refuse to get the next directory (and look at my bosses instead Wink)

RedZuleika · 16/03/2006 20:48

And they credit check you when you open an 'account'. Why?? Why can't you just pay by credit / debit card online.

I bought a garden incinerator through Kays last year and they give you an option of opening an account or paying by card (although if you do the latter, they then try to tempt you with credit...).

Mum2OneAndOneMore · 16/03/2006 20:53

I actually have an account with next & they do charge me for the catalogue but a month later they credit it, dont ask me why i find it all to confusing!!

pootlepod · 16/03/2006 20:53

Yes.

Last time I was pregnant you could order their maternity clothes without having to have a catalogue- they have now changed this. Angry

In defence it must cost them a bit to produce. I have ordered some maternity clothes but will look into cancelling future catalogues.

welshboris · 16/03/2006 20:55

Yeah they refund it to me everytime so doesnt bother me?

It is very big and must cost fortune to produce

WideWebWitch · 16/03/2006 20:56

I've always thought this cheeky too. They won't even let you order online without buying a catalogue so I didn't. pees me right off.

alexsmum · 16/03/2006 20:59

the next directory used to be lovely with swatches of fabric in and everything.i wouldn't mind paying £3.50 if it was still like that but as it is, i do.

starlover · 16/03/2006 21:02

all catalogues cost sometihng to produce... but not everyone charges for it

not everyone sends you one without you even asking for it

and not everyone then sends you bills for the next 5 months demanding payment for the bloody thing!
