Do you think NEXT are being a bit uppity asking payment for their catalogue?

I've always thought it is rather cheeky. I know I have the choice whether to have it, but loads of other catalogues pour through the door for nothing. I wonder if they'd like us to pay to look round the shop?

It may be big and expensive, but £3.50 isn't that much, really. I'm sure they could spread the cost over the clothes. And possibly make more money - from those people who are put off by opening an account and paying for a catalogue.

Unless they don't want low quality people with bad credit wearing their clothes... Grin

edam · 16/03/2006 21:03

Agree, I don't use it because I'm not paying an admission fee for the pleasure of shopping with them - if they want my money, they have to sell me some clothes! Cheeky sods. Everyone else manages to produce a free catalogue - it's just a business overhead like any other.

Well they lost about £150 from me last time I asked for ideas on here: I got a link to Next and a link to Monsoon and spent it in Monsoon because I didn't want to pay for a Next catalogue. I would say I assume they've done the maths on this and decided that lost sales due to people not wanting to pay for a catalogue = negligible revenue but actually I shouldn't assume anything about large companies and their abilities to make sensible commercial decisions. They must SURELY be losing a fortune in lost online sales?

RedZuleika · 16/03/2006 21:22

They lost nearly a hundred from me too. I was looking for something for DD and there isn't a Next with a children's section in my immediate vicinity. I planned to throw in a few things for myself too.

Just as well I didn't buy the item for her in the end, since she brings up milk on everything she touches...

getbakainyourjimjams · 16/03/2006 21:23

agree with edam. I refuse to buy from the next catalogue for this very reason. Anyway Boden send me loads of free cataogues.

TinyGang · 16/03/2006 21:28

Yes, it's not that 3.50 is much, but it leaves a bad taste. Maybe they're trying to appear very exclusive or something.

I didn't realise an online order resulted in a catalogue charge; that is taking it way too far!

It doesn't really bother me to be honest. I figure that it doesn't cost much more than a glossy mag and as others have said it is refunded when you order anyway.

My biggest gripe with Next is the way they send your order in dribs and drabs and also the courier round this way gives me the creeps.

swedishmum · 16/03/2006 22:07

Never liked Next. I always thought it was for people who couldn't put their own original look together. Of course, I always look cr*p myself, just hate the co-ordinated thing you pay for.

treacletart · 16/03/2006 22:11

I told them I'd never asked for a catalogue - I'm quite happy shopping from their website -that massive book is a huge waste of resources all round. I refused to pay - they credited my account.

notasheep · 16/03/2006 22:27

So thats why their profits are so huge.
Never done Next either,a bit too office girl for me.
Im the scruffy girl
