I have just conducted a shopping experiment, Waitrose vs Asda.....

Went to Asda to do a big shop as needed plenty of cleaning products, cereal etc.

I decided to do a whole shop there, the choice was VERY limited for organic partic meat and fruit, but what there is looks fine. TBH I buy a lot of my meat at the local butcher anyway.

SO - my usual weekly waitrose bill is about £140 (if I buy most of the meat there)

I did thsi Asda shop and it was £98.

Then I keyed every product into Ocado as I unloaded them to see what saving I had made. I used like for like and made adjustments wherever necessary (eg I got organic Lamb Chops 500g, waitrose only did 400g or something so I made up the difference proportionally by adding something else)

The waitrose shop came to £136

Quite a good saving really if you extrapolate it out over a year! Alos have discovered they will deliver for £4 delivery charge

i tend to go to waitrose as oppossed to asda because asda is 15 miles away and waitrose is only 8, i do like the wide range of products you can get from waitrose, i eat a lot of fresh, cooked from scratch food, so can keep my food shop to about 65, which is pretty good for a family of 5!, i go to wilkos or savers to get all my toiletries and cleaning stuff.

Lol at the involuntary Asda frisson!

I'm not really a supermarket kind of gal,but I harbour a soft spot for Asda.
Something cheery and honest about it.
They do some surprisingly good bread too and pretty girls' clothes.

I find asda too big ,takes ages to get around.

I'm always too tempted to get the kids something from the clothing or toys.

It's too far away from me,waitrose is really close so I use it and lidl.Get most of my meat from butcher friend .

Planning on growing veg this summerGrin

I shop at Asda and always manage to save a fortune compared to other shops, when I move I will have to shop somewhere else.

It's a toss up between Tesco and Sainsbury at the moment.

There is a Morrisons/Safeway near to where we will be living as well as the other two but I personally think they are disgusting and chavvy, I accidentally wandered into one once and swore I would never go back, bloody disgusting shops.

we normally do our weekly shop with ocado as i have found it to be the best inn terms of sticking to delivery times, no substitutes, good frindly drivers who will bring your shopping in and not dump it on the doorstep. b ut if i was to actually go to waitrose, which is on the other side of town from me, you would find it to be predominatley people of chav like tendencies as it is located right next to a large council estate, whereas the asda is located in the middle of a swanky housing estate, so in our asda car park you are more likely to find the audi/volvo set than the escort/cavalier set, the food id still crap though, the veg goes off before you get chance to use it and the organic range is very limited at the asda local to us.

Nothing against Asda but I luurrve Waitrose. Our branch is so calm. Big aisles, nice staff and a relatively stress-free experience even with kids. Anytime I've been to Asda I feel as if I've entered a war zone. Waitrose gets my vote despite the prices Grin

asda is great for weeks on a tight budget like this week is going to be, (spursmum, if you want a lift to go shopping weds morning then i can collect you).

i do prefer the grteesy giant tesco

I am even distances really from Asda, Tesco, Morrisons & Sainsburys so swap occasionally for variety. Usually save about 40-50 quid a week if I use Asda or Morrisons. Tesco about 25 quid dearer and Sainsbury's most expensive (and their veg goes off fastest)
As an aside I am a supplier to a few supermarkets and chain/drugstores and Asda are the fairest people I deal with!

Asda is walmart.....eviiiil

but yes, much better value especially for hard/branded goods and i think their organic range is getting better, i went on friday and came away with the usual stuff plus organic lamb shoulder, sausages, turkey escalopes and minced pork plus loads of organic veg.

CD you have too much time on your hands tho! :o

I shop at asda, its the cheaper shop in our area, we have a morrisons, tesco, sainsburys, waitrose, and asda, I used morrison to get a small amount of shopping during the week, and asda to get my full shopping.

God CD - really?!?! That's a massive saving!

Won't convert me to Asda shopping though - not because it's Asda per se, but just because there isn't one that close to me and the nearest one is a bit naff.

I once lived in a council flat in a deprived estate. Most people were not violent. In fact, the vast majority were just people trying to make a living like anyone else.

But I guess that's just the Yank in me, b/c I couldn't give a fat rat's arse who's in a shop if there's a bargain or something I want in it.

ASda the absolute best for baby clothes imo....and fantatic toddler pyjamas, soft 100% cotton £5 for two pairs.

we've kitted out 2 houses for renting using Asda stuff in the kitchen and it seems to be lasting well.

never find their fresh fruit and veg lasts long though.

do gorgeous brushed cotton checked boys pjs.

I have just bought the most gorgeous green wool cape/cardi thing from George @ Asda, so am a fan if only for that reason. It looks luscious.
