surely this can't be allowed?

tells you the full name and address of anyone on the electoral rol..surely this is against data protection laws?
we choose to be ex directory so i am horrified that by putting my name and 'london' as an area brings up my full name and address and a link to a map of where i live!

I think it is allowed as there is a box you can tick on the Electoral form to opt out of having your name published/sold to advertisers etc

I've just tried both myself and DH and we're not there, do seem to recall ticking a box about not being on any registers or something - bit scary isn't it?

well we filled out the electoral registr form at the door, witnessed by a very imptient and cold looking woman so didn't take time to look over it...
wonder if we can get ourselvs removed from the public lists now?

It has me and DH on too - but at an old address. We have moved twice since then. Definitely was on electroal role at last house, and not registering as moved on this site. Will make doubly sure to tick the box next time!

I don't like this at all. Particularly because of the type of job I have and where I work I don't want to be searchable in this way.

i thought that..what about bailiffs etc, a job where people could get nasty with you and then find out your details...

Well, it's not that accurate as I'm on there with an address I haven't lived in for over 2 years, and I know I'm on the electoral roll at my current address.

Tbh though you can go into any library and get the electoral roll.

The electoral roll is something that the public hace always had access to. Before the days of computers anybody could go to thei local council office or and ask to view it. The police even use it to trace people. also when you apply for credit the credit referencing agencies use it to check you are telling the truth about who you are and where you live. If you are not on the electoral roll you basically won't be able to get credit.

Just checked mine and it has my old address listed. Checked my parents, they are on there so are my sisters. I find it Shock, shouldn't be available to everyone like that.
