--- KANGA --- Boring Volvo XC70 question

hub2dee · 12/02/2006 20:07

Hiya !

You will be delighted to hear I am contemplating an XC70 !

I was wondering if you knew how the third row occasional seats compared to the Mercedes E class estate third row. Merc rate theirs as up to 140cm, 50 kg, but Volvo seem to shy away from posting their rating...

Also, did you ever try the Audi equivalent (A6 Avant) ? (I wouldn't get the Audi Allroad as apparently the second row seats don't collapse).

(If anyone sees Kanga around on the boards in the next day or so, could you bump ? Ta)

now why do u need a 7seater hub, with only one child? eh eh!!?

GDG · 13/02/2006 11:09

Oh hub, don't confuse matters. I'm just about settled on a Touran - don't have me swaying back to the volvo!!!

This car choosing lark is a nightmare!! Since we are waiting till our house sale goes through - there is just too much time to keep changing my mind!!

NomDePlume · 13/02/2006 11:14

GDG, I saw the XC90 on the Top Gear Winter special last night and like the interior , so threw it back into the mix for DH's car (which is due to be changed in June).

We're also test driving the Subaru Legacy B spec (is that right? The top spec sporty one), this saturday. It's only 5 seats (there are only 5 of us), it's really well built, very well equipped, reliable, gutsy from a power pov without looking ridiculous (like the scooby wrx), 4wd and £10k cheaper than the equiv 5 series BMW .

GDG · 13/02/2006 11:18

NDP - we still love the XC90 but there are just too many other things we want and need to spend money on. And tbh we don't need a 4x4 where we live and we'd be forking out the money just to have a flash car. We've therefore decided to spend a more 'sensible' amount of money on the car and use the excess we'd have spent on the XC90 on other things - there's loads we want to do to the house for a start.

GDG · 13/02/2006 11:18

Flicked onto Top Gear a few times but didn't catch the XC90 bit - thank goodness!

NomDePlume · 13/02/2006 11:24

They are v expensive as a second car (pretty steep for a main car too, if you ask me).

GDG · 13/02/2006 11:25

Exactly - we were looking at £25K just for a second hand one.

Mum2Ela · 13/02/2006 11:34

Mum and Dad have the Volvo, and there is only one multistorey in Cardiff they can park in, hence the reason I am really not having it when they finish with it in April.

NomDePlume · 13/02/2006 11:36

why, Mum2Ela ? Is it too tall ? Too wide ? Surely there are bigger 4x4s around ?

Mum2Ela · 13/02/2006 11:38

NdP too tall iirc. They had the same problem with their Shogun. Think its a generalisable problem with 4x4's, or perhaps with Cardiff car parks!

NomDePlume · 13/02/2006 11:40

lol, prob a bit of both

BudaBabe · 13/02/2006 12:27

We went for the XC70 as opposed to the XC90 becaue of the height - didn't think we woul get in into our garage!

DH is very happy with his XC70 although didn't go for 3rd row seats.

Well he was happy till he headed off for Bratislava this morning and got a flat tyre. In minus tems. Snowing. Second time prob with that wheel so he's not too happy now!!

hub2dee · 13/02/2006 12:34

alibubbles: your new car sounds fab... I was also considering the old merc estates as they live forever, but kind of fancy the new airbags and structural metal they have put around the boot area.

misdee: And the Lord said to me 'Go Forth and Multiply'... just give me a couple of years, eh ! I'm interested in them because ultimately, with two kids and a pile of crap to transport, I reckon an estate or MPV will be useful. Rather than change cars twice in just a few years, I'll choose one to last IYSWIM (well, that's my reasoning anyway LOL). Also, as Dee will only be working part time when she returns to work, and both grandparents live nearby, and I work from home I am envisaging a domestic bliss scenario of extended family on a jolly jaunt with babbas in just one car...

Budababe - didn't realise you were running an XC70. Hope you're happy with it, and that the mysterious reoccuring punctures cease.

V. glad you like the build quality of the new E320, ab. I was kinda worried it might be as poor as the ML, suffering from the generally accepted hit Merc's have taken in the Quality Control department recently. Hmmm...

BTW, you sure do rack up those miles !!!

OP posts:
hub2dee · 13/02/2006 14:19

(when I say as poor as the ML, a friend bought one and found it so crud he returned it after about 6 months and a handful of letters to MB UK)...

blimey, 5 litres and a long wheelbase... how old is the boat ?

I understand it costs £10,000 just to replace the wiper. Is that true ?

Sorry, I'm thinking S500L (the long fast limo, LOL)... your dh's is the convertible rocket, isn't it ?
