--- KANGA --- Boring Volvo XC70 question

hub2dee · 12/02/2006 20:07

Hiya !

You will be delighted to hear I am contemplating an XC70 !

I was wondering if you knew how the third row occasional seats compared to the Mercedes E class estate third row. Merc rate theirs as up to 140cm, 50 kg, but Volvo seem to shy away from posting their rating...

Also, did you ever try the Audi equivalent (A6 Avant) ? (I wouldn't get the Audi Allroad as apparently the second row seats don't collapse).

(If anyone sees Kanga around on the boards in the next day or so, could you bump ? Ta)

Sorry, I need to sell my convertibles (old MG, Saab 900)... not buy more, LOL... although it's tempting

When you were shopping for your E320CDi, did you notice any particularly kosher second hand ones / amazing deals etc. etc. ? Oh, and what year / reg did you go for ?

Hellooooooooooooooo Hub

Sorry have not been around

Am in sussex home atm and we only have dial up down here and so am not here all day & night

The XC90 3rd row are up to 160cm

The XC70 are for 3 - 10 years, 15 - 36kg, 140cm height, total weight for seat is 72kg,

And no I haven't tried merc or audi - my bro had an audi but I haven't driven it

hub2dee · 13/02/2006 22:47

hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhiya Kanga. Thought you were conspicuous by your absence, LOL. Are you near the lovely downs and are you walking in the wind regularly ? (I studied at Sussex Uni).

Thank you for the third row info.

Are you still worryingly in lurve with your automobile ? What Car magazine seems to think the steering is somewhat sloppy at speed... Oh, and do you have any worldly advice like 'post 2001 has blah blah blah which is really useful'.... Oh, and aside from Braydon, any specialist dealers you've thought 'wow !' ?

Doesn't dial up hurt LOL !

OP posts:
RTKangaMummy · 13/02/2006 22:56

No we are on East Sussex coast did you ever go paragliding off the hills by lewes

we were watching them while we were waiting at level crossing there on the way down

loads of them on the hill

we were in dealers today and were looking at the cars around and yes we are still in love with ours and don't want to sell it

I like the sussex dealer cos they are very friendly and valet the car each time when it goes in and are cheaper than hertfordshire ones

We buy our cars from wherever we like the car

we got this one from winchester BUT the car was in Yorkshire and came down on a low loader - but didn't really like the dealership there though

And yes dial up is such a pain - am on 40 kbps atm

RTKangaMummy · 13/02/2006 23:01

You deffo should get RTI + TV and the integrated phone system with extra handset in arm rest all controlled with steering wheel

Would deffo go for newer than 2001 if had a choice

was reading about a new computer camera today that alerts you if something is in your blind spot and so has disappesared from mirrors but is still there iyswim

hub2dee · 13/02/2006 23:01

Me ? Paraglide ? Mwahahahahahahah.

I remember the paragilders from Devil's Dyke (it's lovely there)... but can't think of the hills by Lewes (unless I've got my geography in a squish).

I am glad you are happy with it... I was thinking it really does hit all the right buttons: rear seats fold flat but are there if you're fully loaded with bods; Volvo safety but slight quirky / funky 4 X4 looks...

At least MN is fairly heavily text based, LOL !

OP posts:
hub2dee · 13/02/2006 23:04

Will keep my eye out for the multimedia madness options... Your sat nav gives you traffic information - is that correct ? Does it regularly save the day as everyone else piles into trouble whilst the Kanga Clan reroute ?

OP posts:
RTKangaMummy · 13/02/2006 23:07

And there I was thinking you were MN version of action man

DS bike fits in the boot with 1 seat down

as they split you can have a bike and people in at same time

We get a 6 or 7 foot christmas tree in each year as well as DH in back seat

I don't find any problem with it at speeed apart from it is very quiet and smooth and very easy to speed too fast on the motorway without trying

You just touch the gas and it goes

hub2dee · 13/02/2006 23:12

Yeah, it's the online persona I like to cultivate, Kanga.

No, my scariest sport is skiing. Aside from that, I try not to leave the ground without the assistance of a 747, LOL.

The only thing the big MPVs (Chrysler Grand Voyager for example) have against the XC70 would be the ability to take multiple bicycles in the back.

OP posts:
RTKangaMummy · 13/02/2006 23:19

DS bike is the size of a teenagers bike iyswim

But there is this loader thing that lifts the bikes onto the roof that we saw today but we have a rack thingy for the back if we wanted to take all 3 bikes out

I don't like NOT having an engine in front of me like in the MPVs just going straight down sort of thing

RTKangaMummy · 13/02/2006 23:21

I drove the Crystler in canada years ago and that was very comfy - I must admit

MUST get geartronic is loads of fun

RTKangaMummy · 13/02/2006 23:22

so you don't even do ski jumps

misdee · 13/02/2006 23:23

[sigh]

hub2dee · 13/02/2006 23:30

Oooh... bike accessories... Lovely !

Does geartronic give you up / down switching using the gear stick or with Formula 1 paddles ?

Sorry, Kanga. At a push I could do a balaclava and some milk tray, LOL.

misdee: is the green face because your motability car choice is restricted or are you green about something else ?

OP posts:
hub2dee · 13/02/2006 23:31

Yeah, we just rented one for a few days whilst on holiday in the States. I thought it was going to be crap but it had a nice ride, and the seats are very clever. And I can fill it with babies, LOL !

OP posts:
RTKangaMummy · 13/02/2006 23:36

geartronic is automatic normally

and then you flick the lever over and it is a manual and you move it up and down to move up or down through gears [not having a clutch pedal just a quick flick]

so you can decide if you want a manual or automatic gearbox iyswim

@ milktray

What does Mrs HUB say about all the mini hubs

hub2dee · 13/02/2006 23:36

Forgot the big plus of the XC70: 4X4 - nice handling, still works if we get snow. And can take it to Euro ski resorts and not get stuck !

OP posts:
hub2dee · 13/02/2006 23:38

I think she would like a period of rest and recuperation, LOL...

OP posts:
RTKangaMummy · 13/02/2006 23:41

The centre seat goes down and you can put skiing equipment there if you want

or on the rack on the top

yes deffo won't get stuck in snow

It also has a WINTER mode for the snow too so deffo brill for skiing

RTKangaMummy · 13/02/2006 23:42

@ mrs HUB

misdee · 13/02/2006 23:43

as i cant afford that uch on a car lol.

v v v tempted by the mazda5 if dd2 gets mobility (highly unlikly)

hub2dee · 13/02/2006 23:48

But the Mazda's got to be around 15K, right misdee ? You can get a secondhand XC70 for that money. An older one for much less. I was looking at S class Mercs, and the ones from the early 90s are like 5K or something crazy !

Kanga - we're currently on a V. healthy eating plan as both of us have weight to lose to improve fitness... dw doesn't want blood pressure hassles in her next pg !

OP posts:
hub2dee · 13/02/2006 23:49

I was reading about the Mazda, but I fancy the gadgety electric doors of the Citroen C8 / Peugeot 807 (or even the Chrysler Voyager, LOL).

OP posts:
misdee · 13/02/2006 23:53

it would be leased hub, i wouldnt own it. i need a 1500 advance payment on it. its pretty much ideal as the middle seat flips away, leaving a rather conviewnt space for peters machine. he cant change the tino for it, as its already been changed once and he doesnt have enough months left on the agreement.

RTKangaMummy · 13/02/2006 23:54

IMHO the easiest way to find a car is to list all the things you want it to have and then if you ask a dealer to go and find you one they will

OR

look on internet at the dealers website searches

We always buy from a VOLVO dealer and have a full RAC {independant} check done
