I am interested to see whether most people think child beauty pageants are a good or a bad idea.

What is your opinion?

wrong wrong wrong wrong

cathyspam · 07/02/2006 17:08

dont like the idea of little kids being plastered in fake tan and make up and having their hair dyed! Makes me queasy tbh.

Kelly1978 · 07/02/2006 17:12

think they look horrible. I wouldn't subject my kids to it, they ahve better things to do.

Radley · 07/02/2006 17:13

WRONG

controlfreaky · 07/02/2006 17:13

some things are just.... wrong

Carmenere · 07/02/2006 17:14

wrong

Kelly1978 · 07/02/2006 17:15

would liek to se an arguement FOR pageants. Can't think of one myself.

doormat · 07/02/2006 17:15

wrong
who is benefitting from this really
the child or the parents

Feistybird · 07/02/2006 17:16

Plain wrong.

Will be amazed if you get one supporter.

twirlaround · 07/02/2006 17:16

Is it appropriate for an NHS hospital to be publicising and endorsing such an event, would you say then?

this might not be a popular view but i dislike anything like that at all..beautiful baby competions etc.everybody's baby is beautiful.
and the paegent thing, if it is done like it is inthe states with make up etc is just sick.
turns my stomach.

WigWamBam · 07/02/2006 17:22

What's the story with the NHS endorsement then, twirlaround?

twirlaround · 07/02/2006 17:24

My local hospital is celebrating a philipino child beauty contest. Many philipino nurses work at the hospital.

RTKangaMummy · 07/02/2006 17:25

deffo wrong

controlfreaky · 07/02/2006 17:28

how very wierd (and wrong). if you are west indian nurse with lovely baby you are excluded?? just dont get it.

twirlaround · 07/02/2006 17:29

The contest was held within the philipino community, so they probably didn't invite any west indian babies to enter!

OP posts:
GDG · 07/02/2006 17:30

wrong, wrong and thrice wrong. Yuk. Hate all baby comps tbh.

twirlaround · 07/02/2006 17:30

The hospital didn't organise the event but their HR director was a judge, and the photo of the winner and an article was posted as headline news within the hospital intranet, as a celebration of the philipino community.

OP posts:
controlfreaky · 07/02/2006 17:30

oh. still dont get it.

WigWamBam · 07/02/2006 17:32

How odd ...

I don't think you'll find too many people in support of them, particularly if they're run as they are in the States with little girls plastered in makeup. It's about parents inflicting their own dreams and desires onto their children, imo. And probably giving the children a whole heap of insecurities and neuroses into the bargain.

madmarchhare · 07/02/2006 17:33

er eeer (in style of that big fat cross on family fortunes)
