I am interested to see whether most people think child beauty pageants are a good or a bad idea.

What is your opinion?

of course its right. dont be silly

Passionflower · 07/02/2006 17:48

WRONG!

Tortington · 07/02/2006 17:48

right

Passionflower · 07/02/2006 17:59

wrong, wrong, wrong ner, ner, n'ner!

MarsOnLife · 07/02/2006 18:01

wrong on so many levels.

expatinscotland · 07/02/2006 18:02

Think they should be banned. They're disgusting.

colditz · 07/02/2006 18:02

so disturbing!

They look like barbie dolls, they really do, I bet you can't even see the little blonde's real skin!

poppadum · 07/02/2006 18:07

Regardless of whether they are right or wrong, I think they might possibly be dangerous and a magnet for paedophiles, such as in the JonBenet Ramsey case. Of course, hers was a very extreme case.

expatinscotland · 07/02/2006 18:09

I was living in Boulder at the time of the JonBenet Ramsay murder, the poor wee soul. Those creepy videos of her all tarted up like a Vegas show girl. Shudder

poppadum · 07/02/2006 18:12

who do you think killed her, expat? I read a very interesting book on her murder called "perfect Murder, perfect town.". I am almost convinced that she was killed by her own mother.

Rhubarb · 07/02/2006 18:15

I regularly pluck my dd's eyebrows and for her birthday she will get sessions on a sunbed. It's all about making them confident isn't it? I can't have her going to school looking like any other little kid!!!

expatinscotland · 07/02/2006 18:18

I think a paedo killed her. Boulder doesn't have a lot of murders, and the police duffed up the investigation from the get go.

They lived in a posh area, and if you've ever known Boulder, people get complacent and leave things unlocked or easily accessbible.

bundle · 07/02/2006 18:19

nothing confidence-building about skin cancer...

dexter · 07/02/2006 18:20

do any of your DD's go dancing and have make up slapped on them? I danced as a kid and for the annual show we never had anything put on us and I think my mum wouldn't have allowed it anyway. But friend's daughter does tap and modern dancing and every time she does a show she's caked in make up very similar to the beauty pageant look, but they stop short of fake tan! I was very surprised - she's 3 (nearly 4!) Is this standard?

Rhubarb · 07/02/2006 18:21

Yes but don't they look pretty with an all-round tan and some blusher! Positively gorgeous!

bundle · 07/02/2006 18:22

oh god, i thought you were being serious then...

madmarchhare · 07/02/2006 18:23

No, but they do the american tan tights thing dont they?

poppadum · 07/02/2006 18:23

I forget the details, but I think she was garrotted with a paintbrush belonging to the mother. It seemed strange that a paedo would use a weapon that he didn't bring with him in advance. Also, there was evidence that the mother was very upset with Jon Benet because she wet the bed, and she had wet the bed shortly before her death. I think the mother killed her in a fit of rage, but as I said, I could be wrong.

Rhubarb · 07/02/2006 18:26

what makes you think I'm not?

welshboris · 07/02/2006 19:00

Because Rhubarb, youre not barking mad

expatinscotland · 07/02/2006 21:16

Trouble is, the police immediately honed in on JonBenet's parents as the only suspects - never entertaining even the possibility that the house was a sitting duck and easy enough to break into.

The crime scene was also destroyed - first by Mr Ramsay when he found his daughter. Understandably he ran to her and picked her up and carried her upstairs to the living room, screaming the entire time. Then the police got there and made a TOTAL wreck of it. I mean, people lost their jobs over the 'investigation' handling. It was so far beyond unprofessional and team of amateurs could probably have done better. There was not evidence to indict either Mr or Mrs Ramsay, however, so it's likely that unless someone confesses, we'll never know who killed the little girl.

Last I heard, Mrs Ramsay was terminally ill. She'd struggled w/cancer in the past and had suffered a reoccurance.

It's like a dress up game on acid.

I'd be willing to wager money that the gals who subject their daughters to this are into Winnie the Pooh.
