not only do they not refund postage you paid the seller, but you have to pay to return the item before they refund you. paypal is pants, have been using it much less recently after my own complaint was unresolved. would have cost me more in postage than i would have received refund!

yeah, you probably do have to pay postage (annoying as all heck, I know!!). Esp. since you'll probalby have to post it back, too.
But insist on your money back, otherwise.

mszebra · 04/02/2006 19:13

Are you sure that there's no way PayPal could take the payment again (Paypal is a law onto itself).
If not, would give her positive feedback, tbh. There was a problem, but she sorted it out very quickly. Fair enough.

FrannyandZooey · 04/02/2006 19:14

No, politely tell the seller you would like to return the tape as it doesn't work. On receipt of the tape they should refund you all money plus return postage. They may say, bin it, and save themselves the bother, but you must return it if they ask you to - after all they may have bought it from someone else and not actually realise it has been repaired.

bubblerock · 04/02/2006 19:14

Yorkie - threaten her with a negative unless you are fully compensated - she has 100% so she wont want a neg, start off being nice, she may really not have known - especially with that high rating, then go from there! How annoying for you.

gigglinggoblin · 04/02/2006 19:15

dont think i would leave positive. might leave neutral as she sorted it, but she must have known it was knackered. dont think there are guidlelines on this really. has she left you feedback? she may neg you back

FrannyandZooey · 04/02/2006 19:15

If she has refunded in full, you should leave her positive feedback.

Sorry my last post was a bit slow and crossed with many others, but a seller should always refund postage both ways if the item was faulty, and any good seller will do so.

oops - if she has refunded you then I would leave neutral feedback, ie - faulty item, full refund received. It's to give other buyers an idea of the service they might get. Perfectly fair.

FrannyandZooey · 04/02/2006 19:17

She has refunded the money, what more do you want gg? Yorkie should leave positive feedback, you have no idea of knowing if the seller was aware of the fault. Many sellers buy things second hand themselves to sell on - you could affect her livelihood by giving less than positive feedback.

FrannyandZooey · 04/02/2006 19:19

Jeez, if I refunded your money promptly like this and got a neutral feedback I would be FURIOUS. You should watch out, some sellers would give you negative if you gave a neutral for that reason.

gigglinggoblin · 04/02/2006 19:19

are you happy? leave positive
are you less than happy but not annoyed? neutral
are you annoyed? negative

you are rating the overall service. if you think she was fair and dealt nicely then leave positive. otoh you could just not leave feedback at all, which doesnt add to her score but doesnt take anything away either. not sure what neutral feedback does on ebay

gigglinggoblin · 04/02/2006 19:20

F&Z - i would only describe an item as in excellent condition if i had checked it and knew that to be true.

FrannyandZooey · 04/02/2006 19:21

Neutral feedback is not viewed well. A seller with perfect feedback would be upset to receive anything less than positive, seeing as she has done what she can to make you happy.

CelluliteQueen · 04/02/2006 19:22

I also agree that you should leave + feedback. She can't have reached such a high 100% fb rating if she sells dodgy goods. It was probably a genuine mistake.

Everyone makes mistakes, it's how you deal with them that matters.

FrannyandZooey · 04/02/2006 19:22

I agree gg, but if the tape looked ok from the outside, and she played it and it worked at the time, she may have been unaware there was a problem. Innocent till proven guilty, you know?

Jaynex · 04/02/2006 19:23

I've bought stuff in the past and sometimes not been completely happy with the condition of the item.
The last two times I was given a full refund and not asked to send the items back, a photo by e-mail sufficed.
It seems that this seller has sold lots and lots of things and has 100% feedback. It would be a shame to spoil this if it was an honest mistake.
As FrannyandZooey said, perhaps she didn't even know it was faulty as she may have bought it from a car boot unaware of the damage.
If you get the refund and you haven't lost any money I'd either leave a positive and explain there was a fault but it was resolved amicably or not leave feedback at all.
It's not worth the hassle and risk of getting a negative yourself for such a small item.
Keep it polite, that's what I think.

Excellent.
Lovely e-bay etiquette.

gigglinggoblin · 04/02/2006 19:26

ok, having now clicked on link i can see why everyone trusts her so much. that is quite a feedback score. likelyhood is that it wasnt checked but she was obviously very reasonable about it all. i usually dont leave feedback rather than leave neutral, i have left positive for sellers who have refunded for faulty items, but i have left neg for those who havent been nice. you can leave positive saying that the tape was faulty but you got a refund quickly

gigglinggoblin · 04/02/2006 19:27

must learn to type faster

FrannyandZooey · 04/02/2006 19:30

I am a bit shocked to see how trigger happy people appear to be - think very carefully before you leave anything less than neutral on eBay as for many people this is their job, not a hobby, and you can endanger the success of their business by making hasty comments.

Glad it all worked out Yorkiegirl and hopw you find another video that works

FrannyandZooey · 04/02/2006 19:30

sorry, meant anything less than positive

gigglinggoblin · 04/02/2006 19:34

to be fair the first post did make it sound rather like YG was v annoyed. i would be gutted to get a neg, but i have bought things when people have been taking the mickey - a toy i got before xmas was badly broken but i didnt get refund as return postage would have cost more then i paid for item (see 1st post). i gave her neg, and she deserved it. and yes, she has sold less since. i have no guilt about that at all.
