Yes they have international commissary type thing, it varies but they sometimes have marmite, indian pickles etc, american peanut butter and various biscuits and things which we're better off not having in the house!

spaghettina · 23/10/2012 12:09

Franca, what, cheddar in Milan?! Is that the market in via Calvi by any chance? I hope so as that's my local Thursday market!

Francagoestohollywood · 23/10/2012 12:23

Thursday in via Calatafimi, you know behind corso Italia. Or Saturday in via Tabacchi (san Gottardo).
The market stall is called Luca e Lena.

spaghettina · 24/10/2012 09:56

Hmm, that's a bit far for me unfortunately. But good to know, and I'll mention it to my English friends here, thanks :)

Francagoestohollywood · 24/10/2012 10:05

Hanno anche lo Stilton e il Cornish Blue!

spaghettina · 24/10/2012 11:10

Yum - Maybe worth making a trip for!
Stilton with apple and digestive biscuits...mmm.

My mum's coming over soon so I might get her to bring a few things. You can get lots here in various "world food" shops, but I refuse to pay 4 euros for Coleman's English mustard powder, for example!

Rosa · 24/10/2012 11:57

Not fussed over Stilton - My basket for the British Corner shop is getting bigger and bigger ..I don't think I will have the courage to press purchase - I will need a new house to fit it all in !!!
We don't have many 'world' shops here in Venice you can get the odd thing here and there, my dds are mad for pancakes- I make my own but they prefer the ones in the box ( its basically flour, bicarb) with maple syrup on Sunday mornings ....

OP posts:
Francagoestohollywood · 24/10/2012 12:20

My ds loves pancakes too, with maple syrup and bacon!!!

Rosa · 25/10/2012 12:23

Help - dh has invited the people we are going to Tus with for lunch on Sunday to chat about it . he said just do something like a lasagne ... Oh help me what shall I do? , I want something pretty simple but obviously want to do a bella figura !!!! The dd's I can easily do seomthing aparte if needed. Ideas please As I at this moment have none !...The friends said they would bring dessert which is the one bit I am not worried about as can do that with eyes closed !

Francagoestohollywood · 25/10/2012 12:31

A beef roast, maybe?

Or my piatto forte, lasagne with radicchio and pancettA?

Rosa · 25/10/2012 12:36

My lasagne with radicchio last time was a bit pesante ..tell me your secret ( I did fres affumicato pancetta and 'ripped' radicchio in a bechamel sauce and layed with fresh lasagne ...it was ok but not excellent.... . I had thought traditional English lunch as well and It is pretty easy to do . Off to get minirosa as we are going o a friends house to play later and she seemed tired this morning .....A dopo...

Francagoestohollywood · 26/10/2012 21:55

I am so disillusioned and sick of the sad state of affairs in my beloved country, that i can't even summon up some joy for today's events Sad

But I will try, so Grin Grin Grin!!!

Rosa · 27/10/2012 05:58

Morning all , wakened by the bloody sirens ...... Thing is 4 years what- so he can sit on his boat , in his villa , carry on life as normal.....he should go to prison but of course he won't as he has probably bribed the judge as well.
I admire what Monti is trying to do but bloody hell things are getting tough up here.doesn't help that dh is self employed but you really can't spend a penny without having to jusify where it has come from.

And today but higher...plus its really windy... Did anyone listen to his speech , FGS he is a real pratt. My MIL said she felt sorry for him !!!!!!!!!!!!!! She said it on the phone to dh - next tiem I am round I am going to try and find and hide her voting card....

OP posts:
BananaGio · 28/10/2012 06:41

Lol at hiding voting card. Fil has been known to voice support in that direction as well. Luckily as he refuses to vote i havent had to resort to drastic measures which considering his fascist tendancies I am rather relieved by. How dp turned out to be the laid back lefty he is I will never understand.
Speech was ridiculous, the man is certifiable. Obviously he wont go to jail but at least finally he has something official against his name.

Francagoestohollywood · 28/10/2012 10:44

I want to see pics of Vemice with acqua alta! Temperature has dropped here too, and ds has just discovered that it snowed quite a bit on the mountains, and is uber excited.

Feeling a huge sense of claustrophobia after reading Berlsuconi's speech yesterday. He is matto and a mina vagante.

Lol at hiding certificato elettorale! I tried to do it one with my parents, when they were going to vote for the mayor in the early 1990s and they wanted to vote Formentini from Lega Lombarda.
My parents turned really di destra in the 90s (not fascists though) and they get worse as they get older. I have always had left leanings. We still argue Blush!

Francagoestohollywood · 28/10/2012 10:45

once, not one.
