I did my ironing today. Huge pile of. It took 2 hours. When I got near the bottom I was ironing linen trousers and summer skirts with peg marks on.

So...does this qualify me for the MN Slatterns Club?

Holy sh*t did you steal my ironing pile?

Blu · 02/02/2006 23:21

No.
you were, after all, doing some ironong.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 02/02/2006 23:21

Damn! Just checked, its still there , summer clothes and all....

Hattie05 · 02/02/2006 23:21

Well, no, because your iron was still working and hadn't furred up so you must have used it at some point over the last couple of years .

But you're not doing bad, so keep it up!

Surfermum · 02/02/2006 23:22

Can you write your name in the dust?

SorenLorensen · 02/02/2006 23:23

I dusted downstairs too (was on a roll today...) but can probably find some name writable dust somewhere in this house.

How much of your ceiling can you see and how much is covered in cobwebs?

SorenLorensen · 02/02/2006 23:25

I have wooden beams in my kitchen and they're pretty cobwebby.

Am I in?

hunkermunker · 02/02/2006 23:25

I don't even have an ironing pile because I know I'll never do it. I just wear crumpled clothes and hope mammoth boobs stretch them flat

LeftOverTurkey · 02/02/2006 23:26

Dust balls blowing around the floor like tumbleweed. Too poetic to clean.

KristinaM · 02/02/2006 23:27

What's ironing?

Feistybird · 02/02/2006 23:28

I once left my washing on the line for 3 days through rain, took it in (it was still clean) and ironed it (well, eventually)

Spidermama · 02/02/2006 23:28

What is this 'ironing' of which you speak?

SorenLorensen · 02/02/2006 23:30

I refer to the iron of the hand, which works with the magic of the spark of the elastic-trickery. Tis devilry, of that I'm sure.

Hattie05 · 02/02/2006 23:35

Ok cobwebs on beams are good, but i think you should remove the word 'pretty' from your description

Surfermum · 02/02/2006 23:37

I leave my ironing so long my mum takes pity on me and when she babysits she does it for me.

colditz · 02/02/2006 23:38

It is far more sletternly, yet seemingly less slatternly, just to put the clothes away when they are dry.

Look at it this way. When they are hanging round waiting to be ironed, you were wearing them anyway because you would run out of clothes (admit it), so what is the difference between wearing them unironed off the pile and wearing them unironed out of the wardrobe?

The difference is, you have knocked a job off your 'to-do' list. You don't have to walk past the guilt inducing pile, you never feel you should do it, because You Don't Iron.

SorenLorensen · 02/02/2006 23:41

I don't iron much - only the really crumply things and nothing belonging to the kids.

You're not going to let me in are you? Oh, the rejection.

OP posts:
Spidermama · 02/02/2006 23:41

Also you'd be amazed at how many of the crumples come out when things are folded on a shelf/hung in a wardrobe. Any remaining creases tend to drop out whilst the garment is being worn.

To assist in this slatternly practise I'd advice would-be slatterns to set the spin speed a notch down on their washing machines.

JanH · 02/02/2006 23:46

Hot people do not have creases (eventually)

JanH · 02/02/2006 23:47

(Well they do, but in different places)

SorenLorensen · 02/02/2006 23:48

The advantages of the hot flush, eh Jan?

I spent half an hour looking for this strange creation called iron today, brought out the ironing board only to realise that dd (I assume) has managed to tear off all of the foamy stuff from underneath the cover, having not found any evidence of foam lying around the place I assume this has happened at some point in the distant past

Sooooo can I join! lol

(I just wore crumply clothes in the end pmsl)
