Hot for the man who likes to be dominated.

Aw! That's fab.

paolosgirl · 30/01/2006 22:22

Can't stand her - not because of the feminism thingie (it's late, cant think what I want to say here!) but because EVERY time there is a whiff of something 'controversial', out trots Germaine Greer. Oooooh look, I can say cunt too, Germaine. Yaawwwwwwwwwwwn.

we went to see Room 101 being filmed years ago (pre-kids so at least 6-7yrs ago) and Germaine Greer was the guest -she was very funny and very clever. Said a lot of stuff that wasn't used in the final programme too.

Mytwopenceworth · 30/01/2006 22:24

was that the programme where she explained why 'c*nt' is a good, empowering word and the word vagina is a tool of the devil?

I think she's a prat, personally, and sets back the worthy cause of attaining true equality by her self important ramblings!

paolosgirl · 30/01/2006 22:26

I think there was Pruni, 30 odd years ago. Now she just comes across as a bit of a mdeia whoe - will say anything as long as she can get appear on TV and get a bit of publicity.

You know, I think my PMT may just have started

paolosgirl · 30/01/2006 22:27

media whore even

Heathcliffscathy · 30/01/2006 22:27

i adore her. she is thought provoking....and provocative, but super bright and challenging.

massive germaine fan here. and i loved 'the whole woman'.

treacletart · 30/01/2006 22:27

Actually, I totally agree with her when it comes to c**t . I'm using the asterisks so as not to offend but I've been saying for years its a word that desperately needs reclaimimg

paolosgirl · 30/01/2006 22:29

No way, Treacle! {grin]. It's actually the one word I won't say, so it was very hard to write it.

I totally agree with her about reclaiming the word 'c*nt' and that vagina is more offensive.

Mytwopenceworth · 30/01/2006 22:31

I think she just irritates me on a personal level and could probably be saying anything at all and it would get my hackles up.

"hello MTPW, lovely day"
"p*ss off devil whore"

treacletart · 30/01/2006 22:35

But isn't it a shame that the "worst" word in the english language desribes something we should all be so proud of. Also I hate all the nimby pimby feeble options we're left with if we cant use c**t positively. I do know i'm in a minority though. I had this same discussion at work just last week and I got some very odd looks.

paolosgirl · 30/01/2006 22:36

It's just that she tries to hard to be controversial that she's not controversial, iykwim. A bit like watching your dad trying to dance to TOTP and pretending he knows all the bands!

hornbag · 30/01/2006 22:42

She does tend to pop up as a talking-head or whatever they call them on all these progs like tonights one, but if its a choice between Germaine Greer or Vanessa Feltz I know which I prefer

Mercy · 30/01/2006 22:52

I don't agree with all she says or does, but overall she is a person I admire enormously (she is a Professor of English, specialises in 17/18c womens poetry and Shakespeare for starters). have you seen 'Town (bloody) Hall' or read Clive James' references to her in his autobiogs?

Mercy · 30/01/2006 22:59

Can suggest 'Untamed Shrew' by Christine Wallace - first biography written about GG - she must be considered in the context of her generation and her subsequent influence
