My DH says just make it payable to Inland Revenue, he also says put your UTR No (Tax Ref No) on the back. HTH.

Stilltrue · 27/01/2006 23:20

"Inland Revenue Only" and put tax ref no. on FRONT of cheque, maybe in a corner.

ja9 · 27/01/2006 23:20

Payslip ref: on frant after payable to text and ITR on back.

I am currently looking at my giro/pay-in slip and that is what it tells me. However I am sure they would cash one made payable to the IR just the same .

gomez · 27/01/2006 23:26

Or you could do a direct payment via. phone or internet banking:

sort code : 10-51-67
account number 23444401

reference is ITR including the k

Honest guv I have got it in front of me - having just made my payment.

paolosgirl · 27/01/2006 23:26

Just checked with DH who is a tax consultant thingie and long-term enemy of the IR.

You make it payable to Inland Revenue Only, and then on the back put your NI no. if it's personal tax, or your company no. if it's company tax.

gomez · 27/01/2006 23:27

But the Revenue merged this year...

MrsSpoon · 27/01/2006 23:28

DH an accountant and doing tons of these for clients just now, double checked with him and he has told me that the Inland Revenue have just merged with Customs and Excise, calling themselves HMRC (Her Majesty's Revenue & Customs) but he has so far been advising clients to make their cheques payable to Inland Revenue, although etiher is probably acceptable.

snore

MrsSpoon · 27/01/2006 23:29

paolosgirl, think your DH and my DH would get on well.

gomez · 27/01/2006 23:30

Okay I am sad info

paolosgirl · 27/01/2006 23:30

LOL! If I have to listen to one more story about tax and the IR (and what they don't know) I shall lose the will to live.

gomez · 27/01/2006 23:31

But then I am an accountant too Paolosgirl - we just can't help it.

MrsSpoon · 27/01/2006 23:33

LOL Gomez, looks like there may be a lot of returned cheques here then.

paolosgirl, yes they are all completely incompetent at the tax office ... yawn ... k-thunk!

paolosgirl · 27/01/2006 23:34

I honestly don't think you can, Gomez!

He said to me in all seriousness "if I couldn't do tax, I don't know what I'd do". This is the man who, as a child, actually wanted to be an accountant. And I married him...

Well I never had a DESIRE to be accountant (and am currently trying very hard to not be one but that is another story) - however i currently work in risk managment and DD1 (5) described me a a 'danger manger' - which I quite liked! The only time accountancy has soudned faintly interesting....

[Could be worse we could be actuaries....]

MrsSpoon · 27/01/2006 23:39

LOL paolosgirl, I was conned, when I married DH he wasn't an accountant, he was merely harbouring a secret desire. ROFL at him wanting to be an accountant since childhood, that is the kind of ambition my DH is trying to instil in our DSs, poor boys.

ja9, yes I am the same MrsSpoon from Button Moon, at least that's what I tell myself in order to try and keep sane.

ja9 · 27/01/2006 23:40

[ooooo-kkkkkk then....]

am running away to hide behind sofa...

Like the sound of Danger Manager, Gomez, sounds like just one step away from Danger Mouse and he was quite fun.

ja9 · 27/01/2006 23:40

behind sofa singing...

.. am off to button moon, to follow mr spoon, button moon, button moon...
