No
Worse

noddyholder · 27/01/2006 17:30

no
worse

hercules · 27/01/2006 17:31

If ds was 15 and wanted to have an earring then I would let him. From around 14-15 imo it depends on the child and why they want it.

From the age of 13 and under, no way.

Not sure yet about worse of better than girls. Actually worse than girls as it gives them impression that they are trying to be ard.

sharklet · 27/01/2006 17:31

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Hulababy · 27/01/2006 17:31

I personally don't like earings (on other jewelry, other than a wedding ring maybe) on men/boys at all, whatever their age.

I think it is definitely worse than on girls.

hercules · 27/01/2006 17:32

Ds used to go to swimming classes with a boy when they were both around the age 0f 8. One week the other boy appeared with an earring. Ds was more shocked than me.

sharklet · 27/01/2006 17:32

Earrings in gerneral are a big no for me - hate them eeeeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

JonesTheSteam · 27/01/2006 17:33

I'm with hulababy on this one - men should only be allowed to wear watches and wedding rings.

Hate earrings on men - find it really chavvy!!!!

macwoozy · 27/01/2006 17:34

I'm not keen on boys having ear rings but from about mid teens I think it should be their choice. But any younger, no way, a boy in my ds's class who's in year one has an ear ring, he's a nice child but looks a little thug.

Dinosaur · 27/01/2006 17:35

I think they look good on teenagers. A tad unnecessary on younger children. But can't summon up the energy to feel strongly about it one way or another. It wouldn't upset me if the DSs wanted to get an ear pierced but I would want them to wait until they were 13.

Blandmum · 27/01/2006 17:36

I'm interested in this as there is a thread on the Times Ed website discussing if an earing in a younger boy is a possible signal of poor behaviour.

What sort of class is it?

PeachyClair · 27/01/2006 17:41

No

Nor on little girls either.

They're OK when they're old enough to choose, for either gender.

Had mine done at 13 as Mum felt that way too, but then she was happy for sis2 to have one ear done three times after that, just wanted to be sure it was our choice.

I only like gothy looking men with earrings usually, Dh wears a simple silver sleeper and I like that. I don't think it looks 'right' on young boys at all - like they're trying to look too old, if that makes any sense. I really dislike those XL diamond studs I keep seeing young boys wearing around here. I'd try and discourage DSs if they wanted one, but I'd be a hypocrit if I let DD and not them (but she's younger so I should get away with it for a good few years yet )

I'll admit I don't like them on younger boys, I don't like 'OOT' hair on their either.

However I like the sixth form boys to look a little crazy, I think by that time it shows character!

im sorry but i am going to have to disagree with everyone on here.

My ds1 has had his ear pierced since he was 5. He doesnt look like a thug or get classed as one(even though he has a shaved head) in fact I am always being told what a lovely boy he is.It was his choice to have it done. I told him it would hurt but it didnt bother him. He will be 9 in May and if ever he wants to take it out he can but he likes it too much to do that.

My dh has his eyebrow pierced and up until 2yrs ago also had his tongue peirced. My previous boyfriend had everything pierced (and tattoos). When I met them both (at different times obviously ) it never occured to me that they were thugs. In fact my ex boyfriend was quite intelligent and had a well paid job. And my parents liked them both instantly piercings or not.

People shouldnt be judged by what they look like otherwise everyone with a tattoo would be labelled as trouble too.

I dont agree with piercing a baby's ears as they obvously cant choose for themselves but by the age of 5 I found my son was intelligent enough to make the decision himself and if ds2 wants his ear pierced when he is older than I wont say no.
