Am i being an underwear snob - only buying Petit Bateau underwear for my DD

My DD is 4 and i only buy her Petit Bateau underwear, i do this because whenever i have bought other brands such as underwear from John Lewis i always find them so thin, and i don't feel they cover her bottom especially in the summer when she wears dresses without legging underneath. Am i being an underwear snob, is there any other brand that make good quality knickers that aren't thin. I would be happy with Petit bateau it's just then only tend to make pale pink and white and DD wants to have some flowery knickers like her friends.

You clearly have more money than sense.

CroissantNeuf · 18/02/2012 20:08

We were given some once and TBH I thought they were the toddler equivalent of granny pants/apple gatherers.

DD didn't like them as they didn't have whatever the latest cartoon character was on they were too thick

Pagwaatch · 18/02/2012 20:09

Calvin klein are nice

Grin

I think gap underwear is quite nice. M&s is crap, so is next and mothercare.

Dd has always worn calvin klein or gap for the same reasons as you. But it's not snobbery unless you are concerned about the label rather than the quality.

My first ever Biscuit

tralalala · 18/02/2012 20:09

yes you are.

margoandjerry · 18/02/2012 20:09

??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Pagwaatch · 18/02/2012 20:10

Oh, and white company. Their underwear is nice too.

SuePurblybilt · 18/02/2012 20:10

My DD wears pants that come in packs of five from Sainsbos. They appear to cover her bum and not unduly thin Hmm (how thick do pants need to be?).

However, I am assuming this is a wind-up. Surely.

Bonsoir · 18/02/2012 20:10

I only buy Petit Bateau because it washes and tumbles and never loses its shape.

There are lots of lovely flowery Petit Bateau pants and vests in the Vintage range

In fact, going back to my post...you shouldn't be a snob where underwear is concerned as you can keep children happy by giving into their desire for character clothing by limiting it to underwear.

I never let DD wear Barbie clothing other than pants. Similarly I never let DS wear Spiderman or Ben 10 clothing other than pants. I was happy, they were happy. Result.

Pagwaatch · 18/02/2012 20:12

There is an epic fault line developing across mn .... Dc who wear out their pants and dc who are light kegs users.

My dd spends her whole life with a wedgie. I need to be careful.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 18/02/2012 20:13

Why are boys pants thicker than girls pants? Am I the only one to notice that? Confused
DD's pants from asda are these dainty little things and DS's from asda are thick and chunky. Odd.

RandomMess · 18/02/2012 20:13

H&M style short style pants and some nice quality knickers, not cheap but a bargain compared to Petite Bateau!

SuePurblybilt · 18/02/2012 20:14

YY Croissant, that is my cunning plan too. I will also sometimes allow character pyjamas

SmileItsSunny · 18/02/2012 20:14

Ha ha, yes you are bless you.
With Sue Good old JS clothing for the Smile family!

lulurose · 18/02/2012 20:16

I favour the M and S range myself.....the only Hello Kitty stuff I can tolerate!

This is a joke though, right?

winnybella · 18/02/2012 20:16

Yep, so does DD, Petit Bateau= good quality.

It doesn't make you a snob or an idiot, fgs Hmm I don't get the scathing responses at all.

Bonsoir · 18/02/2012 20:20

winnybella - in France there isn't the same virtue attached to dressing your DCs in the cheapest possible clothes available as there is in the UK. Quite the contrary!

CroissantNeuf · 18/02/2012 20:20

Sue -yes, I allow pyjamas too. DS thinks he's the bees knees in his MarioKart PJs

MadameOvary · 18/02/2012 20:23

DD's pants range from Vertbaudet to Asda. None of them cover her bum that well.
Nowt wrong with apple catchers.

margoandjerry · 18/02/2012 20:24

they hold their shape

exactly how shapely do little girl pants need to be?

I wash my DD's pants reasonably often and even though they are only from some cheapo high street place, they don't miraculously re-form themselves into the shape of a sock, or a hat. They remain functioning knickers. They also cover her bottom. Am fully Confused at this whole topic.

Sparklingbrook · 18/02/2012 20:24

I have never heard of Petit Bateau, so can't comment. Confused Matalan sell pants though. Wink

RandomMess · 18/02/2012 20:26

margo be grateful your dd doesn't have a shapely bum, one of my dds has problem getting knicks to cover her bum that don't ride up into wedgies!

winnybella · 18/02/2012 20:28

It just makes sense- when I buy things from PB I know they will last. Buy them from Mpx, or DPAM or similar and they lose colour and shape after the first wash.

I think you may be right, Bonsoir- I think I've seen some children of well-off parents in the UK dressed in supermarket clothes-but then I asumed that maybe Tesco etc do better quality garments than supermarkets here.

Btw I'm going to pm you in a near future re: college info if you don't mind. Just doing some research now. Actually, the college near us is not the worst in Paris as I thought before, althought he brevet pass rate is only about 80%, I think Hmm

Sorry for hijack, OP, and YANBU.
