Am i being an underwear snob - only buying Petit Bateau underwear for my DD

My DD is 4 and i only buy her Petit Bateau underwear, i do this because whenever i have bought other brands such as underwear from John Lewis i always find them so thin, and i don't feel they cover her bottom especially in the summer when she wears dresses without legging underneath. Am i being an underwear snob, is there any other brand that make good quality knickers that aren't thin. I would be happy with Petit bateau it's just then only tend to make pale pink and white and DD wants to have some flowery knickers like her friends.

Grin Tilda. I am relieved, I will sleep soundly tonight. But now I will be looking at underwear in a whole new light. What do you honestly think of the 'Dress like Daddy' bit of Petit Bateau? Grin

usingapseudonym · 19/02/2012 09:43

Not sure its a class issue though. We're middle class (but not well-off at the moment) and have middle class friends, still not sure of anyone that would spend (waste) that much on pants!

Charlotteperkins · 19/02/2012 09:44

Never heard of petit bateau.

Wish I'd never heard of this thread.

Bonsoir · 19/02/2012 09:49

The "Dress Like Daddy" thing is a common marketing ploy in France right now where clothes brands try to extend their appeal across the generations (or across the sexes). Adult brands have produced children's lines, brands for 30-somethings try to appeal to 50-somethings, brands for young men try to appeal to young women...

Sparklingbrook · 19/02/2012 09:51

Oh right Bonsoir. It's quite cute if they are little, but can't see my boys going for it. Grin

Bonsoir · 19/02/2012 09:56

DP and the DSSs used to wear identical Villebrequin swimming shorts when the boys were little!

seeker · 19/02/2012 10:02

The only people taking this thread remotely seriously are the " well I have to spend loads on pants for health reasons- how dare you suggest I'm only doing because I'm middle class" brigade. Honestly, nobody else is!

charitygirl · 19/02/2012 10:03

PB is cheaper in France though, and they stock it in the hypermarches. Grin

I only have DSs but I have noticed that boys' cheap pants are better quality than girls'. How bloody irritating!

MissBeehivingUnderTheMistletoe · 19/02/2012 10:06

This thread is getting funnier and funnier Grin

usingapseudonym · 19/02/2012 10:12

Is it a wind up thread?

seeker · 19/02/2012 10:28

Toddler skin care routines.

Just nought I'd drop that into the conversation wt random. No real reason.

Bonsoir · 19/02/2012 10:44

Oh seeker, chippity chip chip chip Wink.

God, I sm grabbing any middle class credentials with both hands. Before upmarket keggs I only had saying napkin instead of serviette.

Are we going to play who is taking it all seriously now because that sounds fun too. We could have a chipiness contest as well. I am happy to be entered in all categories as long as all the faux breezy fuckers stop pretending they don't have their thumbs shoved completely up their scantily covered asses.

Pagwaatch · 19/02/2012 10:54

Sparkling
Ds1 doesn't care about knickers but ds2 is really fussy. When I let him he goes for really freaked out knickers. I think he has pants angst.

TheProvincialLady · 19/02/2012 10:55

It's surprising that all these children of well off parents have such enormous backsides. I always thought it was the poorer children who have the most weight issues. We are somewhere in the middle but coverage is not an issue with any pants brand we have used, from the most expensive to the cheapest.

MissBeehivingUnderTheMistletoe · 19/02/2012 10:56

How very dare you Pag, my arse is never scantily covered Shock

seeker · 19/02/2012 10:56

Pagwatch- can't decide whether you're really cross or not, so I won't say anything else until you do!

Pagwaatch · 19/02/2012 10:58

Sadly my dc get their arses from me. Dh tries to comfort me by saying it is athletic and cites Nadal as embodying our physical shape.
Dd often has to hoik her knickers out of her bum but she is crap at tennis. It's all confusing really

Pagwaatch · 19/02/2012 10:59

Does that help seeker?

If I got cross about knickers I would lock myself in a room for a week or two

TheProvincialLady · 19/02/2012 11:14

Perhaps she will be better at strutting across a stage in her pants, a la Beyonce?

My children don't really have bottoms. If the waistband could increase slightly with each year but the triangle at the back stayed the same, it would be perfect.

Sparklingbrook · 19/02/2012 12:13

I am taking this thread incredibly seriously. Anyone who suggests otherwise will be given a wedgie whether their knickers were off the market or Victoria Beckham designer. Grin

Bonsoir · 19/02/2012 12:28

For those who are really interested, Bonpoint also does underwear for little girls, available only its best boutiques (try the party-and-nightwear room in the rue de Tournon flagship store).

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/02/2012 13:28

Oh good God. Middle class knickers, middle class children with delicate bottoms AND child skincare routines - can this thread get any more ridiculous?

For what it's worth I am (probably) middle class, dd2 had excema - I still didn't and don't feel the need to spend as much on a pair of kinickers as I might on a t-shirt.

Tugs up her M&S shorts...

noddyholder · 19/02/2012 13:29

Is this really a thread?
