Am i being an underwear snob - only buying Petit Bateau underwear for my DD

My DD is 4 and i only buy her Petit Bateau underwear, i do this because whenever i have bought other brands such as underwear from John Lewis i always find them so thin, and i don't feel they cover her bottom especially in the summer when she wears dresses without legging underneath. Am i being an underwear snob, is there any other brand that make good quality knickers that aren't thin. I would be happy with Petit bateau it's just then only tend to make pale pink and white and DD wants to have some flowery knickers like her friends.

OK, winnybella, look forward to chatting about collège Smile

I can recommend Boden for little girls who like 'comfy' pants as my daughter calls them. Naice thick cotton and good coverage. I understand where you're coming from OP, flimsy little briefs one has to adjust all the time (or which twist as you pull them up or gape at the legs) are no good at all.

usualsuspect · 18/02/2012 20:32

I've never heard of Petit Bateau either

Bonsoir · 18/02/2012 20:39

Little girls who wear Petit Bateau become women who wear La Perla. Good quality, traditional, bourgeoise and energetic.

Pants Confused

Amandinefau · 18/02/2012 20:40

Still wearing some Petit bateau stuff I bought 10 years ago (I have probably been washing them every week). Great quality! Live in Yorkshire now.., my little boy is wearing TU vests... One of the big downfalls of living in the UK (on the other hand he is bilingual so can't complain)

Sparklingbrook · 18/02/2012 20:42

Not sure about this though

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 18/02/2012 20:44

I second Boden pants, need a good code or sale though.

I hate crap uncomfortable pants myself, so don't put them on my kids either.

Bonsoir · 18/02/2012 20:47

DD wears Petit Bateau underwear, Doré-Doré tights, Start-Rite shoes (Louisa or Clare) and gets most of her school clothes from BonTon. Frankly, it saves me a lot of hassle just knowing exactly what to buy from where and not having to think about whether it will wear out before the end of the season.

Sparklingbrook · 18/02/2012 20:51

Judging by the website PB is v.v. expensive.

VinoEsmeralda · 18/02/2012 20:54

I love Petit bateau underwear for the DC. Yep, expensive but it lasts and keeps it shape.

Had some Boden ones for DD and she liked them too, PB are softer better shaped though!

Bonsoir · 18/02/2012 20:54

You only need to buy four pairs of pants and four vests every two years, though.

MissBeehivingUnderTheMistletoe · 18/02/2012 21:01

The PB clothing I have is OK but nothing special. I only have DSs so have no experience of underwear needing to cover bottoms in the same way and they outgrow it so quickly I prefer to buy new (M&S usually) and then chuck it away.

I've always been very disappointed with Start-Rite quality and have switched to Ecco.

ChaosTrulyReigns · 18/02/2012 21:05

Haven't you changed your fiffing name yet newbie?

tralalala · 18/02/2012 21:20

seriously why does underwear for a four year old need to 'keep it's shape'?

Bonsoir · 18/02/2012 21:20

So she is comfortable and it doesn't ruck up under tights etc.

Sparklingbrook · 18/02/2012 21:25

I don't think the OP can be overly concerned. They seem to have disappeared from the thread.

£8.50 for one pair of pants

Sparklingbrook · 18/02/2012 21:37

MissBeehiving would need £17 pounds worth. Shock

winnybella · 18/02/2012 21:38

It needs to keep its shape so it doesn't fall off her bum or twist around etc (bitter experience with Monoprix knickers).

I also feel oddly comforted by Petit Bateau clothing Hmm, don't know, maybe they remind me of clothes of my childhood, simple design (well, usually, they do have some odd colours/patterns sometimes), good quality, lovely fabrics.

BonTon is very expensive, isn't it? Where are they?

Gosh some people really do have a lot of money to waste..

Francagoestohollywood · 18/02/2012 21:49

Mine must have been the only children who didn't want clothes with characters on them ( probably they also weren't aware of their existence).
I buy lots of PB underwear, I mostly get it from an outlet, so no, I don't spend a fortune for it.
Sometimes I find nice underwear at H&M.

Bonsoir · 18/02/2012 21:51

Franca - DD doesn't do character clothing either, bar a six-pack of Hello Kitty pants her paternal grandmother once bought her. She doesn't know what "characters" are...
