I wish I knew how to do things

I wish I wasn't such a girl and relied on dh to do things
For example I've just taken down the Chrsitmas decorations but I don't know how to open the loft so have to wait for dh to get up to put them away. Other things I can't do are: extend the dining room table and put it back after it's been extended, empty the hoover , put the photos from the digital camera onto the PC and then onto a disk in order to get them developed... probably will think of loads more pathetic things I can't do...

OP posts:
TeddyRobinson · 02/01/2006 17:36

DD - nope! I'm perfectly capable of doing all these things, just choose not to!

deaddennis · 02/01/2006 17:37

I suppose if you've got the choice, it would be stupid not to make the most of it.

NomDePlume · 02/01/2006 17:37

PMSL @ deaddennis, I didn't get it (doh). I thought you were that randyrodent troll fella from the house thread. Thought you were stirring, not actually asking....

TeddyRobinson · 02/01/2006 17:39

What's wrong with a bit of delegation? If I did all the things I get dh to do, I'd be doing everything. Not great for women's lib either is it?!

2Happy · 02/01/2006 17:39

DH useless at getting round to doing things, so I end up having to do them myself, which he always takes as being nagging. Can't win...

Rickman? As in Alan?? Swoon... (or is it just me that has a thing about him... from the truly madly deeply era, not Harry Potter! )

deaddennis · 02/01/2006 17:39

Randyrodent troll fella? I must have missed some threads recently, must try harder!!

NomDePlume · 02/01/2006 17:40

FWIW, DH puts the odd shelf up and buggers about in the loft. I do the decorating and furniture moving etc.

NomDePlume · 02/01/2006 17:41

DS1 & 2 do the bins, they alternate weeks.

deaddennis · 02/01/2006 17:41

No Rickman as in Dennis, now deaddennis!!

TR - some of us don't have the luxury of getting someone else to do it, if I don't do it, no one else will.

hercules · 02/01/2006 17:41

I guess you lot arent on the feminist thread then!

TeddyRobinson · 02/01/2006 17:42

Accept that - just responding to Hercules.

TeddyRobinson · 02/01/2006 17:42

Don't be ridiculous!! If being a feminist means doing 100% of the household tasks yourself while dh sits on his arse - you can keep it!

hercules · 02/01/2006 17:43

I can understand sharing jobs and each having what they do as that works. I dont get the "cant" do it as it's too manly and I'm a woman. Dh would laugh at me if I said I was unable to put something in the loft!

hercules · 02/01/2006 17:44

Since when was this thread about a woman doing all the jobs in the house.

NomDePlume · 02/01/2006 17:44

TBH, i don't think putting up a few shelves makes me any more of a feminist than if DH does it instead. I agree with TR.

NomDePlume · 02/01/2006 17:44

sorry herc, I misunderstood the tone of your post.

hercules · 02/01/2006 17:44

It's the reasoning behind it ie only a man can do it or I'll let him think I'm incapable of doing it.

TeddyRobinson · 02/01/2006 17:45

Oh OP is saying she can't do things, that's true herc, sorry.

I am not unable to do anything, I just choose not to do them and 'delegate' to dh - that's different I suppose.

TeddyRobinson · 02/01/2006 17:47

Hercules - there are a couple of things round this house I 'can't' do as I'm just not strong enough. We have a back room - outside - with the spare fridge/freezer, extra furniture blah blah in it - atm the door is jammed shut and dh is the only one that can open it. I'm afraid I do have to say 'I can't do it' in that case. Dh is a lot bigger and stronger than me! He's 6'3 so can also reach up to some things I can't - just a fact of life! Yep, could get a chair but why bother if dh can reach?

Am waffling now and verging off topic

hercules · 02/01/2006 17:48

That's different of course not being physically strong enough.

JoolsToo · 02/01/2006 23:34

hercules the thing is to teach your dd's how to use men to your best advantage

Skribble · 02/01/2006 23:37

Just think about all the men that claim not to be able to work the washing machine or know how to load the dishwasher. My DH is away to bed in the huff because I said he was cramming to much in the dryer so that will be him exempt for another 6 mths.

hercules · 03/01/2006 08:55

But that's rubbish too Scribble. I would laugh at my dh if he said he couldnt use the dryer the same way he'd laugh at me if I said I couldnt put th bins out.

hercules · 03/01/2006 08:56

So he wont have to dry the clothes because he moaned about it? He now becomes excused from that task?

PrincessPeaHead · 03/01/2006 09:55

I'm sorry, anyone who can rip dvds for downloading onto an ipod can operate ANY household machinery. And you won't find many men under the age of 50 who will admit to being unable to do the former!
