Following on from another thread - I have decided to give up the booze ... ( for January ).
There are a number of reasons why I felt the need to grasp the nettle ( so to speak )

  • 3 alcoholics in my family
  • very over weight
  • my health is suffering
  • I am ( truthfully ) becomming rather dependent and feel that the pros outweigh the cons

Only trouble is ... i know that it will be damn hard for me ....

anyone want to join me

I am dying for a drink HELP

I am trying to stop myself having a Malibu as have some in the cupboard.

Please talk me out of it as dh is egging me on!

JonesTheSteam · 12/01/2006 15:50

I'm afraid I cracked last night and had a bottle of lager.

Think it's helped to make my mind up though, as I didn't really enjoy it at all, and I had a really bad headache by the time I went to bed!!!

Have definitely decided I don't need the demon drink to be happy!!!!

WideWebWitch · 14/01/2006 23:12

I just searched to find this thread to report smugly that I am still on the wagon, so that's 10 days, gawd, is that ALL? It seems like much longer! It's amazing how quickly I've got out of the habit of opening a bottle actually, I've surprised myself. I've craved wine a few times but haven't done it. How is everyone else? I think I'm going to keep this up until we go on holiday, which is 10th Feb.

CountessDracula · 14/01/2006 23:34

we had an amnesty last night

Yummymummy24 · 14/01/2006 23:56

please can i be in your club? Ive not drunk for over 2 years. this is not a joke by the way

puddle · 15/01/2006 20:06

I can also smugly report I have had nothing to drink since 2 Jan. I am feeling a lot better for it but my tea and biscuit consumption has also gone up so that's the next thing to crack. I am finding it easy now and not thinking about it at all. Went out for lunch yesterday and, although my rule is I can drink, just not at home, I wasn't tempted.

Bought some milk thistle yesterday to see whether that does anything.

My aim is to keep going to half term.

WideWebWitch · 15/01/2006 20:14

Puddle, I'm going for half term too! So from the evening of the 10th, just for a week, I'm going to give myself permission to drink wine and Champagne.

WideWebWitch · 21/01/2006 22:34

Anyone else still doing this or is it just me?!

tangarine · 21/01/2006 23:29

Hi WWW. I haven't had a drink yet this year (or chocolate, or caffeine). DH keeps forgetting I'm on the waggon and offering me white wine but so far I have resisted. It's my birthday at the end of Jan so I'll be starting again then (I do this every year).

WideWebWitch · 28/01/2006 20:29

I've just cracked at dh's suggestion. Crap day, stressful month so far. Oh well, that wasn't bad going!

ScummyMummy · 28/01/2006 20:32

Not bad going at all.

Hope you enjoy it and sorry to hear you've had a bad day, hon.

puddle · 28/01/2006 20:32

I am still atop the wagon.

I went out to dinner last weekend and had a couple of glasses of wine but that's all this month. The main thing I wanted to stop was the bottle a night habit with dp and we have really knoocked it on the head. Feel loads better for it - I am doing weightwatchers too so am feeling great.

My plan is still to go to half term, but I actually think I've changed my habits totally - don't even think about drinking at the moment.

WideWebWitch · 28/01/2006 20:33

Oh it wasn't a terrible day scums, just a bit rubbish! Thanks, I am proud ish of myself!

WideWebWitch · 28/01/2006 20:36

Puddle, me too re breaking a habit (a weekend one for me though, have been not drinking in week since Aug due to staying with teetotal ex mils!) - I have got used to not drinking at weekends. I am enjoying this glass of wine though, it's the first of any alcohol to pass my lips since 2nd Jan or might br 3rd.

ScummyMummy · 28/01/2006 20:36

Oh good. The day will soon look even brighter as you will get pissed v quick after all that abstinence, perhaps.

Rhubarb · 28/01/2006 20:38

I'm planning to give up for Lent, again! I lasted 17 days last year, not bad eh! Hoping to break that record this year.

ATM I drink (at the weekends) half a bottle of wine and a couple of halves on Fri and Sat night, and maybe half a bottle of wine on Sun. That's really bad isn't it? Trouble is finding an alternative as I don't smoke or drink coffee or do drugs, so what can I do?
