Following on from another thread - I have decided to give up the booze ... ( for January ).
There are a number of reasons why I felt the need to grasp the nettle ( so to speak )

  • 3 alcoholics in my family
  • very over weight
  • my health is suffering
  • I am ( truthfully ) becomming rather dependent and feel that the pros outweigh the cons

Only trouble is ... i know that it will be damn hard for me ....

anyone want to join me

ggg, they osunded gorg but for now it is fruit juice and water

expatinscotland · 01/01/2006 16:08

Mmm, ggg, that sounds gorgeous!

Best of luck, ladies. I'm pretty much off the sauce b/c of bf'ing and depression, but did have a nice nip of Hebridean whisky last night so not absolutely teetotal.

essbee maybe on the first of Feb !!!!

Now that I will not have any hangovers - I can now start going to church ( as that was the excuse for not turning up for soooo long )

Now I'm sounding like a sanctimonious bitch

I have yummy veg roasting in the oven and organic beef that I might cook later and there's icy cold Chablis in the fridge. I could start on the 3rd instead when I go back to work?

Crystaltips · 01/01/2006 17:25

CATEGORICALLY NOT .... this is the first hurdle and you MUST clear it with flying colours ....

mmmmm your silence implies that you have uncorked the bottle - kicked off you shoes and are now lying in a drink induced stupor

OK I cracked 2 minutes ago and opened the Chablis. But I promise I will be on once I go back to work, which is Wednesday. That's the beginning of my diet and New Resolve, I promise!

Embarrassingly, I slept much better after a booze free evening

JonesTheSteam · 02/01/2006 18:19

For the first time in about a year, there is no alcohol in the house, and we have no intention of buying any ATM either.

DH is joining in as well (at least during the week - he might have a glass or two on Fri / Sat nights.)

Don't think I'm going to miss it particularly either!!!!

CountessDracula · 02/01/2006 18:50

Yes dh and I are packing it in after tonight (back to work tomorrow )until 27 Jan when we are off to NY for 5 days hurrah!

daisy1999 · 02/01/2006 18:58

give up drink? It's the only thing keeping most mothers going

puddle · 02/01/2006 19:04

Am signing up tomorrow ( to coincide with return to work/ school). Dp has agreed to join me which should make it easier.
We are finishing off the last bottle of red tonight
Am going to try and make it to half term, so just over a month. My rule is going to be no drinking at home - so allowed to go out for a glass of wine/ drink if invited for dinner etc.

I have done this before and the first week is the killer.....

WideWebWitch · 02/01/2006 19:27

I am drinking tonight too but not from tomorrow (I go back to work the day after). I know puddle, the first week definitely is the hardest, I was fine after that last time.

Beetrootoyourself · 02/01/2006 19:31

2nd day and going well. dont want a drink. feel great

kitegirl · 02/01/2006 19:55

normally I would be on my first glass of wine now but the bottles are untouched... so far so good! Yesterday too hung over to even contemplate a drink (even a reparative one). Feeling very virtuous, my body is a temple... just going to make myself a cup of green tea.

katetee · 02/01/2006 20:09

Hiya
you all look so different without my normal glass of red in front of me!!LOL
DH and I have decided to give it up too, as we were both starting to become very regular drinkers of the lovely Aussie red stuff. Last drink was NY eve. Just off to have a cuppa, not the same, but I will feel better getting the girls up in the morning (I hope I do coz its torture). Good luck ladies, lets stick together and help each other!!

DH just made cheese on toast and I was thinking 'oh a nice cold lager would be nice with this'!!!!

I have resisted though, (even though local shop is less than 3 mins away!!!).

My kitchen is very clean!!!! (trying to take my mind off it)

Fruit juice definitely not the same!!!!
