Following on from another thread - I have decided to give up the booze ... ( for January ).
There are a number of reasons why I felt the need to grasp the nettle ( so to speak )

  • 3 alcoholics in my family
  • very over weight
  • my health is suffering
  • I am ( truthfully ) becomming rather dependent and feel that the pros outweigh the cons

Only trouble is ... i know that it will be damn hard for me ....

anyone want to join me

Hi Blossomhill
could you do just one drink though? I don't think Ive got the will power, in my hands an open bottle is all too soon an empty bottle.!! Must have an addictive personality, never could just smoke socially either. Oh well, here's to a long weekend LOL

Crystaltips · 06/01/2006 20:16

Well, I have survived so far .... had to open a bottle of wine for my recipe - and managed to put it back in the fridge !!!
Hoorah !

Well done Crystaltips!

Full bottle of red wine in my kitchen - am resisting temptation and drinking a glass of water.

Haven't had any alcohol since NYE now - just off to polish my halo!!!!!

Blossomhill · 06/01/2006 20:23

Please don't make me feel bad

No you are all very good and have spurred me on not to drink

WideWebWitch · 06/01/2006 22:13

Well done Crystaltips! Is it still there?
Puddle, glad it's not just me, I wonder if we'll suddenly de tox and look amazing in a couple of weeks?
Anorak, you're right, 2 days was never going to do it!
There is cold Chablis in the fridge but I am not tempted, and Friday night is nearly over now so it's ok, off to bed soon. Ksteee, well done on 6 days! And JonesTS, good for you too!

MrsMiggins · 06/01/2006 22:55

I will try to start on Mon

felt too miserable on Wed

will try really hard next week

sorry

CountessDracula · 06/01/2006 23:07

First night I have found it a bit hard tonight, I sort of feel I deserve a drink on a Friday!

Anyway am doing fine other than that, not really noticed it tbh

CountessDracula · 06/01/2006 23:07

(as one would hope after only 4 nights off )

JonesTheSteam · 07/01/2006 11:54

Hee hee - feeling very virtoous this morning as DH came home absolutely plastered at midnight, and I am completely hangover free and feeling extremely self-righteous and able to lecture him on the demon drink!!!!!!

And I've lost two pounds!!! Yay!!!!

Tonight will be harder, I think, as the unopened red is still in the kitchen, and DH is bound to open it tonight!!!!!

JonesTheSteam · 07/01/2006 11:54

virtuous

Crystaltips · 08/01/2006 14:06

Well - How did everyone do last night?
Are we still off th booze ?
Must admit I found it hard until about 8pm ( as I took the kids to the local chinese ) - but once I was home - I made a cup of camomile tea and tucked into my book ?

Now doing SUnday lunch - where I usually accompany the cooking with a rich glass of red .... OMG all these hurdles

katetee · 08/01/2006 15:55

Will you still let me in if I confess?
I am soooo sorry I had some red wine last night. I had a crappy Friday night and was still in a bad mood so bought a bottle of red and drank it with DH. Have to say, didnt enjoy it at all and wondered why I had bothered!!! So I think, i may find this week easier as I know the wine didn't make me feel any better about anything! iyswim!

Crystaltips · 08/01/2006 16:00

You can still be in our gang !
We are not that horrid .....

So long as you allow us the occasional GLOAT

OP posts:
katetee · 08/01/2006 17:56

GLOAT away, you deserve to gloat yourselves silly. Next weekend I shall gloat too!!lol

WideWebWitch · 08/01/2006 18:04

I am still in and virtuous

MrsSpoon · 08/01/2006 18:06

Oh "Drink FREE", as in no alcohol. I thought you were all talking about 'free drinks' at some club or other.

Blossomhill · 08/01/2006 18:47

Katetee - we could be twins . I too drank a bottle of wine over the weekend and feel like cr*p too . I won't do it next weekend, promise

puddle · 08/01/2006 22:10

I'm still alcohol free too! Have found this weekend quite hard going - have been shocked actually to realise how many times I think about a glass of something over the weekend. Hope that now I've done a weekend it will get easier and am glad I'm cutting back a bit now

On the plus side am feeling and looking better today.

WideWebWitch · 08/01/2006 22:11

Puddle, I think I look a bit better too! I found Friday hard but Sat ok and no prob tonight as I have to get up early so I wouldn't normally drink anyway.

puddle · 08/01/2006 22:14

Well cheers www (metaphorically speaking...) here's to our sparkling eyes and clear skin!

puddle · 08/01/2006 22:15

Actually last night was the bad one for me - dp made lovely mexican food and was craving a glass of wine with it.

JonesTheSteam · 09/01/2006 21:36

My skin has gone to pot - spots everywhere - three on my nose - and very dry in areas!!!

D'you think this is due to the lack of alcohol?

Am drinking loads of water though!! [confused emoticon]

katetee · 10/01/2006 10:15

hiya
possibly toxins leaving your temple of a body!! lol I have to say in a sick kind of way I am actually enjoying this, I dont feel like I NEEEEEEEDDDDD soemthing at night to make me happy. Im in control of my own life and all that crap!! LOL

CountessDracula · 10/01/2006 10:19

Yep still alcohol free at Castle Dracula too! Feeling quite well though my crohn's has flared up a bit, I wonder if the booze surpresses it!

puddle · 10/01/2006 12:23

Done a whole week and am proud of myself.

I realsied at the weekend that I am in a much better temper when I don't drink - more patient with the kids especially.

How's everyone else getting on?
