What's your 'pet hate' at Christmas?

bigbaubleeyes · 23/12/2005 12:53

Mine are: tacky xmas lights on the front of houses and in gardens - where there has been clearly no thought into the overall presentation.

Secondly people who do food shopping in excesive numbers - i.e. its okay to have two people there when you doing a big shop but why 3 or 4 they just add to the congestion of a busy supermarket. I am refering to older childrena and adults - NOT young children who clearly can't be left alone at home.

and.... these people who stop in the middle of an exit to talk - move to one side (this annoys me all year not just at xmas).

I could possibly add tescos to this for selling me mince pies last nite that have a 'best before' date today - but then again ive used this as an excuse to stuff in two whilst typing this!

Blossomgoodwill · 23/12/2005 21:30

MD - I doubt it tbh (sorry ). I am not a meat lover at the best of times. Infact I often wonder where the hell all of these turkeys come from tbh Mad I know

EatDrinkAndBeAMerryPip · 23/12/2005 22:55

We had our first Christmas here in Spain last year and ordered a turkey. Went to pick it up and it still had its head & feet attached. Made me really queasy but then I am a bit crap with meat.

jellyjelly · 23/12/2005 23:19

My ignorant family smoking all around the house when i was 8 months pregnant so i had to sit out in a single glazed conservatory for 2 days.

Then the next year having to ask my again ignorant family to not smoke around my son.

Guess iwill have it again this year.

spruceylucy5 · 23/12/2005 23:26

Sorry for the hijack but where are you in Spain Pip?

hativity · 23/12/2005 23:30

the fact that I'd like to play games and talk and have music on and everyone else wants to watch the f-ing telly. It's going on for TOY STORY and THAT IS IT. then it's going off and we will all play Hungry Hippos. You WILL enjoy yourself or tehre will be trouble.

notasheep · 23/12/2005 23:45

Television

swedishmum · 23/12/2005 23:56

Planning to take a book to read during Emmerdale - imo if you invite people round, you don't force them to watch crap telly.

ImdreadinganAUTIExmas · 24/12/2005 00:26

People saying "is ds1 looking forward to xmas".

No. He doiesn't know what it is. So when you've finished rubbing sat in the wound f off.

WhenAChildIsBored · 24/12/2005 00:45

What do you mean? What wound are they rubbing salt into?

NannyL · 24/12/2005 00:56

My 'step grandmother' guess that says it all....

and her insistance at the table to ask me how much i weigh (im normal size not fat OR thin) / to talk about how shes NOT racist BUT she doesnt like black people cause they are dangerouse / stab you etc etc / or says can you belive it some one only as old as you tried to tell me X (fact!), bear in mind in 25 and have a degree, where as she left school at 14, and genuinely talks a load of crap 95% of the time about stuff she knows nothing about, and makes it look like im stupid. (like how this new diet 'works' and eating LOADS of crap 24/7 is not the reson for her being fat)

Gonna stop going on about her now.

But being exposed to her for several hours will do my head in im sure!

merrySOAPBOXingday · 24/12/2005 00:56

WaCiB - IDaAC's DS1 has fairly severe autism and is non-verbal.

She is a well loved poster on MN and many of us are familiar with her story and the wounds that she is talking about!

I'm sure she would love for DS1 to be eagerly anticipating christmas, sadly the facts are that he will have no idea what is going on and will quite possibly be upset by the change from normal life! All very stressful stuff for IDaAC!

If you want to know more about her life then try searching on Jimjams or Baka, her non-christmas posting names

EatDrinkAndBeAMerryPip · 24/12/2005 09:35

spruceylucy5 - live near Pontevedra, Galicia. Do you live in Spain too?

aragon · 24/12/2005 10:02

Love all the posts about turkey crowns . Will think of you all as we tuck into ours tomorrow. It has an orange, cranberry and port stuffing. Sounds yummy.

bigbaubleeyes · 24/12/2005 12:14

Nannyl LOL LOL you reminded me about my Grandad who was 'playing' with his 9month old grandson jokingly saying 'mind if you don't behave I'll give you away to the blackies' v racist I know from the Alf Garnette generation. I know he is not racist and it just one of 'those' left over 'sayings' (still bloody ingnorant though as my DH was sitting there who is of black afro carribean / white parentage.

That same xmas day he proceeded to talk about the war constantly so the catch phrase became 'during the war' as in Great Uncle Albert of Fools N Horses - we still laff about it today.

Gift tags masquerading as Christmas cards - for some reason all cards sent to this household this year have been less than 3 inches square.
HATE the "To a special couple blah blah blah" cards which we always get from the outlaws.
Also detest clementines but that's pure neuroticism on my part.
Love everything else.
Even crap TV.
Bring it on!
