What's your 'pet hate' at Christmas?

Mine are: tacky xmas lights on the front of houses and in gardens - where there has been clearly no thought into the overall presentation.

Secondly people who do food shopping in excesive numbers - i.e. its okay to have two people there when you doing a big shop but why 3 or 4 they just add to the congestion of a busy supermarket. I am refering to older childrena and adults - NOT young children who clearly can't be left alone at home.

and.... these people who stop in the middle of an exit to talk - move to one side (this annoys me all year not just at xmas).

I could possibly add tescos to this for selling me mince pies last nite that have a 'best before' date today - but then again ive used this as an excuse to stuff in two whilst typing this!

mine this year, and last year, hospitals. opefully wont be setting foot nr one next xmas.

merrycompo · 23/12/2005 18:49

bigbaubleeyes - wasn't the GMTV Xmas sing-a-long at the end grim?! I actually like Kate (but see what you mean about her hair) but can't stand Fy-ona (as Eamonn would say). Love Andrew Castle and Ben though
My pet hate is the constant wittering on the news about 'big Xmas exodus' on roads and trains, and the manic relaying of how it's not going to snow this Xmas and how everyone is shopping like mad people today and tomorrow. I think the media mkaes us believe that Xmas is much more stressful than what it actually is

moondog · 23/12/2005 20:30

Yes merry.
Like so many things,it iscreated by the meeja in order for the meeja to then comment on it.

What's so stressful about making a hot dinner???
I'm a bit bored at the moment actually, not enough to do as have finished my patchwork quilt and am laid up with a bad leg.

Blossomgoodwill · 23/12/2005 20:46

Christmas cards. Such a waste of everything!

WigWamBam · 23/12/2005 21:05

This year what I'm hating most about Christmas is being ill for it, and with dh going down with it as well it looks like Christmas is going to be cancelled - not much point in doing three roast meals if two of us can't eat any of it.

Moondog, if I see you coming I'll hoist my fat arse out of the way and stop breathing so you've got plenty of room; you'll barely know I'm there.

Blossomgoodwill · 23/12/2005 21:07

Moondog - please stop calling crowns masectomies. Is putting me off big time and that's all I'll buy !

moondog · 23/12/2005 21:07

Oh come on WWB.
Nothing personal-you are the one who keeps on reminding us that you are a comely lass in any case.
I really don't want to fall out with you!

moondog · 23/12/2005 21:08

Blossom, that is the whole point-I am on a mission.
(When you slice into it,I will be on your shoulder whispering the 'm' word over and over...)

WigWamBam · 23/12/2005 21:09

Eh? Sorry, I was joking ... I don't give two hoots what people think of me!

(Just noticed that the wink didn't come out on my post ... I put one on there, honest)

moondog · 23/12/2005 21:11

For WWB,a non fattist

moondog · 23/12/2005 21:11

And I hope you are better soon...

Blossomgoodwill · 23/12/2005 21:12

Moondog - I buy them but don't eat them

Turkeys make me sick with the gobbly hangy bits

It will be a nice chicken breast for me

moondog · 23/12/2005 21:13

It still comes under the mastectomy definition however.....

Roobietherednosedreindeer · 23/12/2005 21:14

Still don't see why turkey crowns so objectionable (am in v defensive mode on this! ) You'd buy chicken breasts, legs of lamb etc wouldn't you?

Blossomgoodwill · 23/12/2005 21:15

What are u having then, nut roast ?

bauble99 · 23/12/2005 21:15

Just make sure you buy a turkey bra to go with it.

moondog · 23/12/2005 21:17

I would only buy a whole bird. The thought of a big hormone and antibiotic filled breast sliced off a carcass makes me feel very shaky indeed.

A leg from a sturdy little field dweller.....I can live with that.

I see I am creating a cetain amount of disquiet in various households.......

moondog · 23/12/2005 21:18

lol bubble

I am having a goose from up the road.

Blossomgoodwill · 23/12/2005 21:18

I honestly would rather not eat meat at all. Especially when I start to think of it as parts of an animal iykwim

Roobietherednosedreindeer · 23/12/2005 21:20

but, but, but .... it's a free range turkey with its legs cut off and trimmed a bit - nothing hormone or antibiotic filled about it.

moondog · 23/12/2005 21:20

Yes,my weird thing is looking at a pot of bubbling stew or whatever and imagining how many animals have supplied parts of their body to it.

For this reason I never buy meat that isn't in one piece.

I know for certain that the average hamburger is composed of 63 cows.

Blossomgoodwill · 23/12/2005 21:20

Moondog - not goose (wretch). yuk, yuk, yuk. Just a load of grease and fat!

moondog · 23/12/2005 21:21

Roobie...reread your last post.Tell me it doesn't make you fell just a leetlle queasy......
