Does anyone else ever wonder whether the post man really comes every day?

Cause I don't think ours does. Easy to tell if you live in a house, but in a flat its not quite so easy to be so sure.

Yes, can't believe I am as unpopular as the evidence suggests

WigWamBam · 20/12/2005 13:16

I'm convinced ours doesn't - he parks his car at the end of our road so it's easy to tell when he's here, and the days when there's no car usually coincide with the days when there's no post.

Feistybird · 20/12/2005 13:18

ours does.

NomDePlumPudding · 20/12/2005 13:21

Ours does, armed with piles and piles of junk mail

COPPERfeelunderSantasTOP · 20/12/2005 13:21

We only ever seem to get letters on Wednesdays and Saturdays for some reason. The fact that there's usually a big pile of them makes me wonder whether the postman hangs on to them for a couple of days and then delivers them all at once. Hmmm....

ShortAndStripySolsticer · 20/12/2005 13:27

I've come to conclusion ours doesn't. It's quite easy to tell really as when he's been to our road, every single gate is left open . Some days they aren't, these are the days which coincide with no post.

JonesTheSteamingSanta · 20/12/2005 13:29

ours does - see him around every day, even if we don't get any post. Usually comes around our close at about 10.30am.

(We had a relief one a couple of weeks ago - didn't get post those days until 4.45pm - I was quite at that!!!!!!)

FIMBObellsFimbleAllTheWay · 20/12/2005 13:29

Our Saturday deliveries seem very few and far between, then on a Monday you get loads.

ladymuck · 20/12/2005 13:38

Ours defintely comes every day. However I can tell when he goes on holiday as suddenly the variety of addresses that end up in my letterbox increases.

BellaLasagne · 20/12/2005 13:38

We live in the sticks, and I'm convinced we don't get a delivery every day. When Royal Mail announced it was stopping second deliveries I had to laugh; we get one a day (sometimes) at about 1.30pm.

Any posties out there want to shed some light on this?

HaveYourselfAKnottyLittleXmas · 20/12/2005 13:41

Ous does because he parks his van outisde my kitchen window. he also delivers our letters first every day, so get them just after 8am.

I hate it when the relief ones are on because they always deliver in the reverse order, so we are last!

IOTAnnenbaum · 20/12/2005 13:41

ours comes daily - we have post just about every day - usually junkmail.

cupcakesbakingonanopenfire · 20/12/2005 13:41

Our lady who does Mon-Fri is always there. She's very nice. However, I am not convinced that the Saturday man comes...

NotActuallyAMotherChristmas · 20/12/2005 13:42

I've often thought this, we both work full time so hardly ever see our postman. We very often don't get anything for a few days then get absolutely loads in one day

WigWamBam · 20/12/2005 13:46

Bella, my uncle is a postman, and he told me that there were a number of areas who had been dropped down to one post a day about two years before Royal Mail announced they were dropping the second delivery. We live in one of those areas and I asked him because I had noticed that we no longer got a second delivery, although nothing had been said about it happening. He presumed (doesn't know for sure) that they did it as a trial to work out whether dropping to one post a day would be workable.

He tells me that everyone should get a delivery every day though - but I know that I don't.

Tanzie · 20/12/2005 15:26

My Mum lives in the country and her postman told her that he only comes down her road if he has more than one thing to deliver as he hates driving down it - it's an unmade, pot-holey road which leads to a farm, with not many houses down there.

But he said he will makes sure that anything sent First Class will get to her within a few days of him gettingit!

WigWamBam · 20/12/2005 15:29

Sounds like that might be worth a complaint to the PO, Tanzie. The state of the road shouldn't stop him delivering his round.

feastofsteven · 20/12/2005 17:22

We often don't get any post on Saturday.

OnTheFlossDayOfChristmas · 20/12/2005 18:49

Lots of people then? Am thinking of sticking a note up in our communal area and see if other people would note when their post box was suspicously empty and see if there is any correlation. Then I think I should get a life!

My postman comes most days, but you all knew that already!

myturn · 20/12/2005 18:53

Our postman was caught dumping all the mail in a bin. So I'm grateful for whatever mail we receive these days!

OnTheFlossDayOfChristmas · 20/12/2005 18:59

I seem a little royal mail obsessed actually don't I?

Can you tell I am waiting for stuff?

Epiffany · 20/12/2005 19:20

since we went on mailing preference our postie has been on holiday
Simply get yourself an ebay habit, amail arriving day - parcels YAY!!!!
You feel important, if only to your postman, who has seen you in your pjs more often than your husband

foxinsocks · 20/12/2005 19:23

shamefully, due to all my online Xmas shopping, the parcelforce man and the UPS courier actually know me by name.

Our postie comes every day (though we don't always get post every day).

suedonim · 20/12/2005 22:26

Ours definitely delivers every day because we always have post. One day in November was remarkable for us because we had no post!! I can't remember when that last happened. Most of what we receive goes straight to be recycled, mind!
