i am perplexed.
a woman i know, single mom with three kids. only income is child support, and the money the dadss give her, which comes through the csa, how can she afford december.
she has all her kids birthdays in december as well as christmas. she says she spends 200 pounds each per child on their birthday. and hten there is christmas on top of that. she also smokes and has fake nails. and she drives. how does she afford this lifestyle?

if you are on minimum wages you will probablly be better off staying at home

but your future prospects will not be good ie you will be stuck there

zippimistletoes · 14/12/2005 18:59

bf as in boyfriend

Yes dh works, but we both had full time jobs before dts, we only had DS then, but we worked opposite shifts so childcare was normally just around 10 hrs a week.

merrycompo · 14/12/2005 19:01

surely WTC means everyone is better off now if they work (or is that hopelessly naive?!!)

christmaslovingbluealien · 14/12/2005 19:02

thats the problem with benefits. but the advantage is suppoesed to be to the children.

okie, to those of you who say it is none of my business. well i know it isnt. that's why i am not asking her outright. merely woondering on mumsnet. im not talking about her behind her back to people she knows.
the fake nails are the proper gel ones that take an hour to be applied. from a nail bar. not the fake ones you glue on at home custy.
sshe has mentioned that the onoy money she has is the money the dads give her for the kids, and she misses having her own money. (yes, dads plural)
no one is being judgemental about having a life. so get of high hoorses please.

It's like us - we're in debt up to our eyeballs (actually make that the top of our heads LOL) - but we have a BRAND new car sat outside the house. Why? Because we couldn't afford a 2nd hand car that would be reliable enough for DH's job (don't want him breaking down on the Kingswood Estate in Corby late at night), and this car offered the most affordable repayment plan.

The house - yes always makes us look like we're pretty loaded - but we're not. Oh and lets not forget the 28" Widescreen TV (with matching DVD and VCR) sat in the corner of the room - bought a couple of years ago..

NutcrackingXmas · 14/12/2005 19:03

Yeah when I said most people on benfits are better off I meant completely on benefits, not just tax credits.

We are on WTC and CTC but recently worked out that the difference if dp gave up was a few pounds and then taking into account that he wouldn't use the car as much, we would be better off.

NutcrackingXmas · 14/12/2005 19:04

HIJACK - QofQ, do you mind if I ask where you got the car from ?? We are still trying to get a new one but dn't want to go down the yes car credit route.

My post was just a general comment, not a reply to your post, sorry if you thought I was having a go

christmaslovingbluealien · 14/12/2005 19:05

problem is, i dont know what wtc, or ctc or any of this stuff is. i live such a sheltered life. dh may be a git, but he takes care of all the money stuff.

NutcrackingXmas · 14/12/2005 19:07

Oh no i didn't think that snowfalls, was just trying to explain what I meant by my previous post.

LOL am getting all confused now.

zippimistletoes · 14/12/2005 19:07

ctc is avialable at some level up to 58,000 income i think so most people claim that

Tortington · 14/12/2005 19:07

god not this again

after a working life even with shit wages - you have the hope of a better career - something to work towards you have accumilated benefits and and ever increasing better CV hopefully if you dont fuck up.

you get a pension able to live on when you retire
self worth
confidence
knowing your not needlessly sponging of state

sense of self worth which you earned becuase you worked for it - and fking hard too

HRHQueenOfQuelNoel · 14/12/2005 19:09

well you can't go down Yes Car Credit - they're shutting up shop according to the news today .

We've been lucky - that a fantastic Ford Garage (Winslow Ford in Rushden if anyone in the area needs one) have been really good for us. They've part exchanged (and given us cash when we 'downgraded' in one instance) several cars for us over the space of about 3yrs (don't ask - we've been through so many cars it's unbelieveable - nothing wrong with any of them either LOL). And the bloke that runs it has been very accomdating - I doubt we'd have had the help we've had in recent months if we hadn't been long standing customers of his,

christmaslovingbluealien · 14/12/2005 19:09

is that child tax credit? i think we do get that. but i never see it. as i said, dh takes care of all themoney stuff. hands me a few pennies, and then yells at me if i spendon his card.
i had more control/responsibility with money when i was 13 living at home with my parents

NutcrackingXmas · 14/12/2005 19:10

Did yu have bad credit when yu got it though QofQ ?? Sorry for the nosey questions.

jstbcs · 14/12/2005 19:11

ffs, maybe she budgets. Stop being a snobby old cow.

NutcrackingXmas · 14/12/2005 19:11

Dp has no pension Custardo or chance of better job.

zippimistletoes · 14/12/2005 19:12

i would be a bit more proactive if iwas you, supposing something happened to him you would need to cope with finances

HRHQueenOfQuelNoel · 14/12/2005 19:12

not sure - we haven't checked the credit rating this year (not sure we want to LOL). It's probably not that good - as we've got several missed payments, and arrears on things such as the mortgage (even got into arrears with the last car loan - hence this new cheaper one). I think a lot of it was down to this guy that runs the garage TBH.

snowfalls · 14/12/2005 19:12

jstbcs

Calm down dear

zippimistletoes · 14/12/2005 19:13
