Evil Tesco Lady has emotionally scarred my dd for life!!

Took dd to the HUGE Tescos on Tuesday, the ones with those car trolleys. Anyway, dd (3) got fed up and shouted a little bit when we had to give the car back (they dont go outside so you trsnfer your shopping to a normal trolley). It wasn't a tantrum by any means, I just said "Don't shout at mummy" to her. The woman on the till got off the till went over to her, got down on her level and said in a really nasty voice "You are a naughty, naughty little girl, you don't deserve a good mummy. When Father Christmas comes he's not going to leave you any presents, he's going to take your mummy away and you will never see her again"

I was absolutely flabbergasted. DD screamed and screamed, I have never seen her so scared in her life. She will now not let me out of her sight, is clingy still (after 4 days), has said she doesn't want Father Christmas in the house and is just crying and crying that she's scared I'll go away. She is already a bit clingy because of this pregnancy (a lot of them do that anyway) but is so much worse now she seems like an emoptional wreck this week.

What should I do?

That is appalling. And NOT what either of you need right now.

My ds (who is 2) is also a lovely combination of really clingy, deeply stubbon and strong for his age. Before his sister was born it just got so much worse (fine after for some reason). If someone had said that to him he would have been completely hysterical.

I suggest you do put your complaint in writing, so that they have to respond. But I think the idea of going into the store is a good one, so that your dd sees you are sticking up for her. Can you take the letter into the store?

And IF they don't respond well, have you considered going to Trading Standards, local papers etc?

Just appalled. Your poor dd.

(And those trolleys are a PITA as well. Hint: at our Tescos, if you go up to a security guard they will normally escort you to your car with the trolley, thus avoiding tantrum)

What a relief to hear your opinions. I really thought I was making a big deal about nothing! I have written a very strongly worded letter to head office and to the store manager. I have the ladies name as it is on the receipt too which helps. I'm just so disappointed that one person can ruin my dd's image of Father Christmas for this year (at least next year if she remembers she will know FC did not take me away so should be ok). Thanks for all the support. I'll let you know how my letter is received.

OMG

Complain. What an evil witch. if she had said that to my kid, I would have punched her lights out, but then I am from the hardcore ghetto (Bath) Send them the letter but I think you shpuld go into the store and fume at them manager. I tghink that is a disgusting way for this woman to conduct herself.

IntergalacticTheRedNosedWalrus · 10/12/2005 16:23

Sorry for the typos. It sounds like I have gone into Patois for some of that post.

AwayInAMunker · 10/12/2005 16:37

I cannot wait to hear what response your letter receives. I am livid on your behalf. What an evil bag. I'd have lain in wait for her after work, kidnapped the bitch and dropped her, blindfolded and gagged, off a motorway bridge.

NOBODY should spoil Christmas for children.

And I have a small tendency to, er, red mist, shall we say.

IntergalacticTheRedNosedWalrus · 10/12/2005 16:41

LOL at hunker!

IvorthePolarExpress · 10/12/2005 18:08

Hunker!

thehockeyandtheivy - Good on you for writing a letter. I hope it gets the result you want and I hope that dd is able to forget it or else understand that it was 100% nonsense soon.

AnnieSG · 10/12/2005 18:18

That is absolutely appalling. PLEASE go back and indentify her and then tell the manager. This is so out of order I'm fuming on your behalf.
and double at this.

AnnieSG · 10/12/2005 18:18

So sorry, hadn't read the bit about the letter when I wrote that!

harpsiheraldangelssing · 10/12/2005 18:25

Sweet freaking Jesus that is bloody horrible
I am with Hunker on this
(actually hunker if you ever do anything like this let me know and I will defend you and get you off, no problem)
as an aside, some evil witch said something similar to my (mildly stroppy) dd1 2.5 the other day
i.e. if you don;t start behaving Father Christmas won't come to you

dd1 - (witheringly) it's only a story

Janh · 10/12/2005 19:25

Well done for writing, hockeyandivy - I am really horrified that someone in a shop would speak to a small child like this and I hope your DD will be able to forget it quickly.

I don't supposed you mentioned in your letter to Tesco that the tabloid press would be interested in this story? Because the Sun would love it - contact details phone 0207 782 4100, email [email protected]. They would pay you for this...and Tesco would probably pay you not to tell them...

(NB I have no connection with the Sun, it's just that they have the box with these details on their website every day.)

biglipskissinunderthemistletoe · 10/12/2005 19:30

Whaat? This is outrageous, fgs, what was the woman thinking? Write to Tesco, definitely, the woman needs to be stopped.

WickedWinterWitch · 10/12/2005 19:52

ha ha at hardcore ghetto of Bath! And at Harpsichord's dd, it's only a story, fantastic!

LadySherlockofLGJ · 10/12/2005 19:55

I strongly suspect that Waitrose were having a lock in............

TheFish · 10/12/2005 19:56

bloody kids fgs

futurity · 10/12/2005 20:02

Just told my DH and he was gobsmacked and said the woman should be sacked! You should name and shame her and the store if they don't give you a massive apology.

WickedWinterWitch · 10/12/2005 20:03

Well Waitrose or the PTA maybe? (for the Fish getting pissed I mean)

Marystoothyboychild · 10/12/2005 21:49

Nasty piece of work. I would be furious, not so much at her potentially spoiling Christmas, but to put the idea into such a small child's head that her mummy could ever be taken away from her.
