Men who look like they grew out of the ground
How everyone sees going out and having a good time as some kind of fundamental human right

LadyBeagleEyes, I promise you it's fantastic. Really, honestly, truly.

ellie02 · 12/08/2011 23:17

Oh and meant to be going to pitlochry next weekend tis truly beautiful there!

GentleOtter · 12/08/2011 23:31

Another thing I love is the alternative uses for the red phone kiosks which were made redundant because of mobile phones.

Link to the phoneboxes that you can borrow or leave a good book.

Some places use them as a fruit and vegetable swap.

EsmeWeatherwax · 12/08/2011 23:32

Ellie, I worked in Pitlochry for a summer once...wild wee place it was!

Ladybeagleeyes, it was from a tv show called Burnistoun, very funny in parts, that sketch was its pinnacle though....

The best thing about the motherland is that you have more chance of spotting Nessie than a TorySmile

PricklyThistle · 13/08/2011 00:27

I love:

  • the fact that the people in Scotland have voted for an SNP government
  • that we have 3 indigeous (sp?) languages...and when my Orkney relatives call DS 'peedie breeks'
  • Orkney
  • unspoilt beaches
  • castles, monuments and history
  • kilts, shortbread and bagpipes - cause I don't have a cringe, I think they're great
  • ceilidh dances
  • macaroni pies fae the chipper

List could go on...might add more once I've thought about it more!

And definitely being Tory free.
And the fact that we've got a Scottish Parliament that will ensure it.

Yama · 13/08/2011 03:36

When I was a wean and we lived overseas for a while and my parents would take us to wild expat parties, my Dad and I would sit up and listen to the Corries. He with a whisky in hand and a melancholy look on his coup'n. Me loving it but hoping we could listen to a Billy Connolly tape afterwards.

echt · 13/08/2011 05:43

Scotland is the most beautiful country in the world.

I am not Scottish, by the way, and live in Australia (which is also staggeringly lovely, though in an entirely different way).

CoffeeIsMyFriend · 13/08/2011 08:35

Just been catching up with this thread and I have a lump in my throat and something in my eye.

Phoned my Mum, sister and nephew to have a good catch up (only been 2 wks since I was up) as I felt homesick. Was chatting out in the garden and laughing my head off.

I love how Scottish folk can find the humour in anything. Grin

My neighbour was talking to me after my phonecall and she said it sounded like I was talking in a foreign language. I dont have a strong accent but when chatting to friends/family up there I must speak v fast. Its great!

stressedHEmum · 13/08/2011 08:59

Mawbroon, I think I might have passed out if Fish had even looked in my direction. In fact, I think I probably still would. He's playing on Arran on Wednesday, I really wish I could get across, but, sadly, it's impossible. DH would be too jealous, anyway. He is definitely one of the best things to come out of Scotland for many years.
