my teeth are rotting just reading it Otter Grin

GentleOtter · 13/08/2011 23:59

Bet I don't sleep tonight due to off my face on tablet. God it was good but I feel yon way.

Granny23 · 14/08/2011 00:01

All tablet should be reserved for pensioners, who, like me, have no teeth to ruin.

scottishmummy · 14/08/2011 00:01

i restrict the tablet production as i cannot resist eating it

GentleOtter · 14/08/2011 00:03

I'm off to get medieval on my teeth but they will probably drop out going up the stairs.
Night everyone.

cakeoholic · 14/08/2011 00:05

Love this thread, has made me smile and nod so much! I lived in London for a few years until I started following Scottish accents around in shopping centres!

Haven't clicked on all the links so not sure if this has been mentioned yet

dementedma · 14/08/2011 14:52

tapsel - oh of course I have lots of positives to say. think i already mentioned my friends here and agreeing with so much that other posters have written. Just felt the thread was gettting sweeter than tablet, if that's at all possible Grin
Apologies if a note of realism brought the thread down and I will, as suggested, awa and post elsewhere (and bile ma heid tae ) Wink

Canna

Saggyoldclothcatpuss · 14/08/2011 15:10

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for the tablet recipe. I may well love you forever!Grin
Gentleotter my Dad is a Scotsman, and his family use the grandparents name tradition. His Mum tweaked it slightly though. His Grandad was called Archibald! My Dad has the family surname now.
Im only half scots, but I love it. Everything scots feels so comfy and familiar, when I'm there, the dialects are so lovely. I'm in Wales at the moment, and they all sound so alien! Confused

Zukiecat I have to have some skirlie this week... Not sure if I will persuade the rest of the family to try it, then I can have more!

Dementedma I hope you find a way to make the good stuff about Scotland more important than the bad, I am sure this thread has put us all in touch with the reality that we all love Scotland. I don't think we are a particularly boastful nation and sometimes it is just good to recognise the positive stuff in life. I think GentleOtter mentioned how she felt after having a great day out, we are all just appreciating what we have got.

GentleOtter · 15/08/2011 11:56

Scottish fibs-

"Mind and put on clean pants incase you get hit by a bus"

"There are tatties growing oot your ears"

"If you don't go to bed right now the tattie bogle will get you".

"Mind and wash your ears right because the Queen will be round to check"

EuphemiaMcGonagall · 15/08/2011 12:18

Aaw my grandad used to call me a tattie bogle! Grin

He also used to ask if I had "wurrums" when I ate a lot. Blush

Yama · 15/08/2011 16:37

'Eat your crusts - they'll put hairs on your chest.'

midnightexpress · 15/08/2011 16:40

skirlie and tablet - yum (though not together of course).

Another thing - my mum used to sing me 'Ally bally bee' (don't know how to spell it) for a lullaby.

Awwwww. Memory rush!

Granny23 · 16/08/2011 00:18

I used to sing with a folk trio called the Bawbees and Ally, Bally was our signature tune. We were 3 bawbees (halfpennies) because we wirny worth tuppence!

TinyWeeTeethGreatBigBite · 16/08/2011 01:47

Aw I sing Ally Bally Bee to my Dc. And dd2 gives a fab rendition of 3 craws, and the Jelly Piece song.

Scottish words I love

Piece = sandwich
Poke = bag
Shin = feet
Pinky = wee finger
Boak
Gadz = yuk
Ouse (sp) = fluff/lint
Weans
Tattie peelings = crisps
Skiddling/caddling = messing about with water
Bogie
Scunnered
Maw
Numpty
Bampot

I better stop now, ill be here all night!

TinyWeeTeethGreatBigBite · 16/08/2011 02:11

Baws
Numpty-baws
Shitey arsed bollocks
Streamie
