The view from my house - all I can see is trees and grass and sheep and cows and the occasional horse. I love Scotland, and I'm proud to call it my home. Like MrsPresley, I also love seeing the Welcome to Scotland sign as I cross the border. There's a wee cheer goes up in our car at that point!

God, we're lucky up here.

Lovely towns like Peebles
Freshly caught and cooked fish and chips
No overcrowding
Adequately staffed hospitals and short waiting times. Excellent maternity services
The rolling hills of the Borders and the craggy peaks of the highlands
Beautiful white sand on deserted beaches like Calgary Bay
City of Edinburgh

That's it so far..

Had to leave Scotland and year ago and can say without a doubt the thing I miss most is the lovely lovely tap water!

LadyBeagleEyes · 12/08/2011 09:20

The North West, Torridon, Applecross and Skye.
I've lived here 17 years now, and the scenery is breathtaking.

InMyPrime · 12/08/2011 09:25

Some of these are regionally specific I think e.g. the 'banter' and 'friendly' people - come on, that's just Glasgow you're talking about Grin

Mine (probably regionally influenced too) are:

Frank, no-nonsense attitudes
Healthy cynicism about absolutely everything ('aye, right')
Low tolerance for superstition and religion generally, more secular culture
Smaller population so it's always possible to have space to yourself, even in a busy city like Edinburgh
Words like: numpty, glaikit, peelewally (can't spell)
SNP government and utter lack of Tories
Seafaring / maritime culture

InMyPrime · 12/08/2011 09:26

Oh yes: food: tablet, oatcakes and lovely fresh seafood

EuphemiaMcGonagall · 12/08/2011 09:31

Fanjo I'm from Edinburgh - except for the month of August, it's never that busy there! I lived in England as a child and I speak from experience of sitting in queues of bank holiday traffic! Hell on wheels!
