Does your DH take his wedding ring off to go to bed? Do most people?

Dp, who will become my dh on Friday [excited emoticon!], wants to know. He doesn't wear any jewellery atm and thinks it'll feel strange wearing his wedding ring to bed and that he might want to take it off to sleep. I think it shouldn't be taken off except to clean and that he'll forget to put it back on again, end up not wearing it blah blah.

He does want to wear one but he also wants to know what mumsnetters think. So, tell me, what do you think and what does your dh do? TIA!

Ohh, thank you. Dp just asked what you all said so I read the thread out to him. I think he's going to have to keep it on

Can't see why you'd take it off going to bed, I don't. Only took it off once - I was going on a stag weekend, so I left it on the bathroom shelf. I couldn't understand the bollocking I got for it from DW and her mates - the fact that we were going bouldering, climbing, gully bashing and the like in the freezing Lake District cut no ice. No conncection with reality some women. Haven't dared remove it since. It's the only jewellery I'm prepared to wear.

binkie · 28/11/2005 16:56

This is intriguing. I take my rings off to wash my hands, do the dishes, cook, and I can't sleep in them. I think of them a bit like my watch, a sort of going-out and being formal thing - so sometimes don't wear them at all at weekends. Dh doesn't have one at all.

Congrats Mr and Mrs WWW!
My dh never takes his wedding ring off either, he now says he feels funny without it on! He did fiddle with it on the wedding day (never wore a ring before) but that was it!
Make sure you have a bet with friends and family as to how many times your new DH will be cought fiddling with his wedding ring on the big day, winner gets champagne!!

Frizbe · 28/11/2005 16:59

no we wear ours all the time

jac34 · 28/11/2005 17:00

I can see what yourDP(dh)means I hate wearing jewellery to bed, but I do keep my wedding ring on.
My DH only takes his wedding ring off when he's making meatballs.Last time he forgot to put it back on, and said he felt naked all day.

munz · 28/11/2005 17:01

only takes it off when he is working under the car.

also took it off for the first 3 months he was in iraq as he was told not to take it incase it was lost, took it for the 2nd 3 months thou. wore his enganement ring instead (I wouldn't be so bothered if he lost that one)

i'm with binkie on this one - putting rings and watch on is part of getting dressed. Slobbing on the sofa (as I currently am, ringless) generally means no jewellery.

Don't wear my wedding ring without my other rings (one of which is eternity), they come all of a piece to me.

No idea how anyone can wear their rings at night - mine would fall off, not to mention how uncomfy! Must be my elegant slim fingers...

Passionflowerinapeartree · 28/11/2005 17:26

Don't let him take it off!! DH did and has lost his. (He is blaming the DD's for taking it from the bedside table. Am so . Arghhh.

Blandmum · 28/11/2005 17:30

Mine doesn't wear one at all, ever.

I never take mine off.

never takes his off
mine occasionally to clean

Gobbledigook · 28/11/2005 18:04

No and I never take mine off.

My friend says she takes hers off everynight to avoid getting contact dermatitis.

puff · 28/11/2005 18:08

dh takes his off at bedtime but keeps his socks on

foundintranslation · 28/11/2005 18:10

dh has taken his off about 3 times in our 5-year marriage. I take mine off before going to bed and every time I put cream on my hands. The couple of times I've forgotten to put it on and left the house without it I've felt naked though.
Congrats btw

We never take ours off. I was actually shocked to discover earlier this year when I was having an operation that it won't come off anyway! I had to have tape put over it. Funny thing is, it is quite loose on my finger and I often sit and twirl it round, but it won't even come close to fitting over my knuckle. S'pose I might have to have it cut off one day.

I gave up wearing my engagement ring because it kept on snagging my clothes even after a trip to the jewellers to try to remedy the problem.

Gingerbear - My dad doesn't have a wedding ring due to an accident at work a long time ago. He's got a rather fetching scar instead! He loaded up a van and banged the door to let the driver know he could leave. Unfortunately his ring got caught on something and as the van moved away it split and twisted and nearly cut his finger off.

lucycinco · 28/11/2005 18:50

No we dont take ours off either.

Tortington · 28/11/2005 18:56

my dh has his cut off in his youth after a fight ( he got battered that some consolation) he hasn't has one since and am not bothered.

i have one. and sometimes it gets hot and itchy and so i take it off at night. but i do forget to put it on in the morning and hope the fairies who take the odd socks havent made my ring disapear ( things like that happen in our house) but i do notice it when its not there

FrenchKissUnderMistletoeGirl · 28/11/2005 19:05

dh takes his off when he goes to bed and puts it on when he gets up
I always have mine one

santabops · 28/11/2005 19:11

dh wears his all the time except when playing sport.

I currently can't wear mine due to a nasty bout of dermatitis. Uusually wear it all of the time.

dh complained like mad for the first two weks or so till he got used to it - had never worn a ring before - now feels lost without it apparently

motherinferior · 28/11/2005 19:24

Tell him that as a respectable married woman you can only consent to sex with your lawfully wedded husband and that of course said husband needs proof

Twiglett · 28/11/2005 19:25

Mine won't wear one at all

I never take mine off
