And it makes me so

Why do they do it?

If I had a night away in a hotel I would be in seventh heaven - no kids waking me up in the night/crack of dawn, no dinner to make, no breakfast to get, watch TV in bed, eat chocolate mints left on pillow without having to hide or share them (do they still do that? It's for ever since I stayed in a hotel). Any married man with kids who doesn't take advantage of peace, quiet and an undisturbed night and instead is at it like a rabbit when away overnight is obviously not pulling his weight at home.

Agree this happens all the time at conferences and on business trips. IME, it wasn't always limited to the chaps you'd expect it from.

I used to work with two men, and we all did alot of business travel. I found it very difficult to socialise with them/their wives when I knew what the husbands had got up to on the road. I felt an accomplice somehow, as I was contributing to the deception by pretending it had never happened.

I think lots of people can compartmentalise what happens away from home. There's also the "advantage" of probably not bumping into someone who you know, and also there is little chance of a fling being anything other than just that. So, the chance of repercussions is seriously reduced. Add in a bit of alcohol/reduced inhibitions, and it happens far too often.

echo martin really, DH in the army, did 6 months last year in Iraq with only 2 weeks at home, he did little things like send me flowers and email all the time/ring - might only be small but at least it reminded me he was thinking about me which really helped. a friend said how can u cope with him away for so long - I said well basically I don't have a choice u have to trust them. (besides DH know's for a fact i'd be off and take the dogs/our DS with me, - think it's a case of knowing where u're breads buttered.) I got chatted up once in morrisions - drove straight home told DH he laughed then I though - how sad am I! lol (I was scared! lol)
