Because it's the auction for "things that money can't buy"

ok Terry, I have no money, can I go on the set of Dr Who?

Can I go and meet Janet McTeer and Harriet Walter?

And when you say that someone has paid ten thousand pounds, do you mean pounds of turnips?

Been listening to Classic FM this week

Is this all part of Children in Need charidee fund-raising then lilibet?

Miaou · 16/11/2005 10:12

you an' me both lilibet - it always strikes me as an ostentatious way of showing off how rich you are!

(and I always swap to classic fm during Jeremy Vine - can't do with him!)

I'm a TOG in the making

coppertop · 16/11/2005 10:12

I'm glad it's not just me. Everytime I hear that bl**dy "Things that money can't buy" I think "Errr no. They're actually things that only money can buy." Grrrrr!

Marina · 16/11/2005 10:15

Sarah Kennedy encourages me to get out of bed and contemplate hitting the radio with a mallet. Am usually out of the house () before Terry gets going.
Why does Jeremy Vine shout so much?

lilibet · 16/11/2005 12:23

I did e mail him about it but only got the automatic reply

gggrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Enid · 16/11/2005 12:26

how on earth do people have that kind of money to do those ridiculous things???

I've had to stop listening

also if john humphries mentions egg cups one more time I may implode

popmum · 16/11/2005 12:32

i can't stand it either - and the chap who is also doing the auctions with terry has SUCH an annoying voice!!! I've been listening to magic. Glad I am not the only one.
Some people are clearly nuts to pay say £10K for a signed football.

Tinker · 16/11/2005 13:46

I think some of them must be companies who then auction/raffle them off to staff. At least, I hope that's the excuse.

Moneypennygb · 16/11/2005 13:48

Things that money can't buy my fat a**e - The things that only mentalists with huge quantities of money can buy. Might I recommend Pete & Jeff on Virgin Breakfast show for the remainder of the week.

ah so it's not just me then. Have been listening to my new Magic Numbers CD this week.
The auction makes my blood boil. Heard 20 seconds this morning about some Royal Suite in a hotel that you can stay in if you bid for tickets for the premiere of Narnia. Has it's own gym etc etc. Usually costs £4,000 per night to stay there. Good grief .........

40k !!! That would keep me in Champers and caviar for months...

LadySherlockofLGJ · 16/11/2005 13:53

I really don't see the problem, we will never ever have that sort of money. However I am delighted that there are people out there who have and are willing to part with it for a good cause.

Damned if they do and damned if they dont.

Enid · 16/11/2005 13:54

I know its for charity but it just seems so...vulgar

marthamoo · 16/11/2005 13:54

Aren't there some very rich people in the world with really nothing better to spend their money on? I mean, I know it's for charridee but sheesh.
Marina, I am with you on Sarah Kennedy - she puts me in such a bad mood in the morning with her imbecilic nonsense. The thing I hate the most is when she adopts a little lisping voice to do "funny things kids say." Aaaarrrggghhh!

And - can anyone say "charity" with a straight face anymore? Everyone I know says charridee.

I hate Children in Need. I mean, great it raises all the money and if I see a bucket I'll put some money in but I can't bear the newsreaders-in-frocks-soapstars-do-musical numbers-in-Victorian-costumes goings - on. In fact I'd pay not to watch it. Now there's an idea for fundraising.

Kayleigh · 16/11/2005 13:56

marthamoo, you just may have something there

Shall I email Terry and suggest it? If enough people pledge money Children in Need night can be cancelled and they could put a good film on instead ?

Tinker · 16/11/2005 13:59

SK just witters (wh?) on about cats and her (is it?) Dearest Beloved and reads out from the papers. She must be sh*gging a producer, no other excuse for this woman

marthamoo · 16/11/2005 14:00

Didn't she have some kind of breakdown a few years back? Was she drunk on air or something? I think she said some really nasty things and they took her off air for a while? Or have I imagined this?

marthamoo · 16/11/2005 14:01

I don't mean drunk on air (how cool would that be? And cheap too) I mean drunk. While on air.

Marina · 16/11/2005 14:01

Moo, I have to confess I can't stand the design of Pudsey Bear - something about the cheap-and-cheerful CGI "wave" brings me out in hives. Luckily dd has entirely obscured his horrid little face with vehement biro strokes on the laminated Pudsey we "have" to buy from nursery for Children in Need. I think I will rent a really trashy, tasteless DVD (hm, Pink Flamingoes or Heathers seems right, or Todd Solondz's Happiness) on the night itself, and as you say, put the money in the bucket. Great cause, vile phenomenon.
