i was very bright apparently, i just couldnt be arsed. all my reports said "if ONLY she would try...."

dadofthree · 16/11/2005 00:28

No - but crafty which made up for it.

notthebrightestspark · 16/11/2005 01:17

i got 10 o levels and 4 a levels decent grades without much work left uni (didnt fail) just left can remember all my school reports saying v.bright but lazy/could do better
think that some academic sucess or the will to succeed is definitely down to personality imo

being lazy at school has made me a pretty rubbish speller and i still dont know all my times tables cause i didnt ever learn them all properly

Tortington · 16/11/2005 01:50

no but i tried very hard, never got a detention and was always an excellent pupil.

chipmonkey · 16/11/2005 02:37

Yes, very bright, always top of the class, blah, blah, blah. No confidence whatsoever, pretend to be confident now!

frannyandzooey · 16/11/2005 08:00

Yes, I learnt to read age 2, was moved up a year in school, head girl, etc. etc. Got to university, sex and drugs, mental health problems, whoops, dropped out completely, no degree.

Schlepped around for a few years on the dole, then drifted into childcare which I loved and was very motivated about. Spent 10 years as a nanny being asked "Why are you doing this, you're quite intelligent?" I still like to use what's left of my brain, but never been ambitious in the conventional sense. However was offered £60 for an hour's work yesterday so I can't be a total failure.

I was clever at school - top of the class type of person, 10 GCSEs at Grade A. Had a somewhat disturbing incident at the begining of the Lower 6th which in retrospect left me in a depressed state for a while and affected the beginning of my A-Levels.

Still got 3As, 1B, 1C. Studied the subject I got a C in at university and by dint of a lot of hard work got a 2:1.

Failed at being a teacher.

But then discovered that I am very good at being an accountant and came 1st in the world in my exams.

Now I have had two children and I think my brain has melted away somewhat .

sansouci · 16/11/2005 08:43

Incredibly bright at biology, English, French & art. Absolutely terrible at maths & physics.

hatstand · 16/11/2005 20:20

ks - I didn't have the luxury of a dissertation or any course work or any interim exams that counted towards my degree mark. My entire degree was judged on 8 exams which I took in the space of about 10 days. that's downright cruel I say.

Blandmum · 16/11/2005 20:22

I had 4 exams at the end of year 3 abd four at the end of year 4 and a dissertation

Death or glory!

weesaidie · 16/11/2005 20:34

I am a fecking genius.

hatstand · 17/11/2005 21:07

does that mean you know a lot about fecking?

JoolsToo · 17/11/2005 21:08

sadly, I wasted what talent I had - don't blame anyone else for that - all my own fault

Rhubarb · 17/11/2005 21:13

Weeellll, I hate to boast, but the age of 2 I was reciting Shakespeare, at 3 the Piano teacher had a breakdown because she couldn't handle the fact that I was better than her. At Maths I was rather slow, it wasn't until I was 5 that I understood Newton and Einstein. My parents wanted to send me to a special school for the gifted, but being morally outstanding as well as gifted intellectually, I argued the toss for mixing with the commoners. I think I hide my gifts well!

FairyMum · 17/11/2005 21:16

Top of my class until the age of 12ish and then downhill from there.....

zebratwizzler · 17/11/2005 21:27

That's true, Rhubarb, I think your multiple gifts had escaped many of us... [joke]

I was completely ordinary at school because I couldn't give a toss about it, until I nearly failed English at age 14 & then I got my finger out. I've worked hard compulsively ever since. So I was top of class by the end (I graduated from Uni Summa Cum Laude , which, er, puts my GPA above expatscotland.. maybe her Uni was much better than mine, of course}) but I worked bloody hard for it. I am, if anything, too self-disciplined.

Caroline5 · 17/11/2005 21:32

Blimey Piccadilly Circus - 1st in the world?!! Was that ACA? (I'm an accountant too but managed marginal passes!!) Did get good grades at school and uni though, but do wonder what the point of it all was! Now can only work part time in a job that doesn't require so many qualifications.

albosmum · 17/11/2005 21:33

i was average at school but seemed to have improved with age!

hatstand · 17/11/2005 22:50

misdee · 17/11/2005 22:52

i was top of the clas in every subject in my 1st year of senior, i even got higher marks in french than a french girl!!
