Marie - nothing is wrong with bottlefeeding. It was tongue in cheek in reference to the many hot debates on MN o the topic.

wasn't having a go at you either marie - just dreading a breast versus bottle thread.

bubbles2904 · 16/11/2005 17:10

izzybiz, i'm with you, my dd1 goes to macdonalds every fortnight, watches disney channel every day, was bottle fed. LOL, i must be shite too

bubbles2904 · 16/11/2005 17:12

i once saw a girl with a baby in a pram, it had no coat, no socks. it was pissing down and the rain cover was placed on the pram, but not covering the child ggggggggggrrrrrrrrrr

riab · 16/11/2005 20:11

put your baby to bed in their own room before they turn 5
have a regular nap time for your baby so you can catch up on chores and eat your own lunch
refuse to have your baby in bed with you for the first six months.

Work (because you enjoy it not because you need the money)
Think about/want/have sex
Want to be called by your own name not mum by health workers

(all things i have been told I'm a bad mother for doing)

nikkie · 16/11/2005 21:55

Riab- Yes I want to be called Nikkie not ...'s Mum or Mrs.......

PMSL at some of these!

Tanzie · 16/11/2005 21:59

Fish the bottle out of an almost done dishwasher wash and make up bottle hastily with cold kettle water, microwaving it to warm it.

harpsichordcarrier · 16/11/2005 22:03

give child squash
it's EVIL
apparently
twice as bad if you call it "juice"

unicorn · 16/11/2005 22:05

*never ever put gin/vodka or (god help us) fruit juice in a school water bottle.

unicorn · 16/11/2005 22:09
  • tell someone elses child off (even if they have drawn blood)

That's it really - a good mother should never take the 'easy way out' (ffs!!) of parenting.

pookey · 17/11/2005 09:14

My mum used to give me a bottle of tea!

BudaBabe · 17/11/2005 09:46

My sis was brought up on bottles of tea - with sugar!!!

TBH am sure my Mum did loads of bad mummy stuff - and I'm still here!!!!

PS I do most of the above!!!! (except bottles of tea!)

eefs · 17/11/2005 09:56

circumsize

nap while children are awake

stitch · 17/11/2005 10:05

i remember giving younger cousins a bottle of milk with a teaspoon of sugar in it!

Twinklea · 17/11/2005 10:18

If it makes your life a bit easier and your kids are happy, then take every short cut u can, and sod what other people think! I dont iron, my kids were bottle fed and had dummies until they were nearly 3 (appaling i know), and i'm sorry jamie oliver, but they also have chicken nuggets now and then, and marmite sarnies, not grilled chicken salad ones! But, i do wrap mine up ready for an arctic expedition in the winter, they practicaly live in wellies and wooly hats, and they all go to bed at 7/7.30pm even my 9yr old.
My house is a tip, i have piles upon piles of clean clothes everywhere but my kids are happy and i'm not so knackered i cant do their reading books, teach them how to write or look at their works of art (usually drawn on my freshly painted walls or bathroom walls with bath crayons, grrrrr)

Raising kids should be fun, and we should make the most of it, not spend our days hand scrubbing the washing, breast feeding and making our own baby food.

acnebride · 17/11/2005 10:30

sorry v slow but enormous LOL at colditz

Vossy · 17/11/2005 10:36

Twinklea, you've just made me feel soooooo much better!

GranofJames · 17/11/2005 11:11

What an angst-ridden life young mums lead in these 'Big Brother' & Health & Safety ridden days! I desperately wanted to breast feed my first son, but hadn't much milk. After 6 weeks of sleepless days & nights with even 1 & half bottles failing to satisfy him, I gave him a scrambled egg with cheese & he slept all night & went onto baby foods + milk. Son no.2 was on strained beef dinners etc from 8 days, & I managed to breast-feed for 2 months. He is now 37, fit & healthy and with 2 sons of his own. They both went through school without the tummy bugs which were 'going around' & only the usual measles, chick.pox. etc. At 37 & 40 they are both fit, slim and active - tho I expect the manufacturers of baby milks would say they were lucky exceptions!

hunkermunker · 17/11/2005 11:20

Twinklea, for some mums, making the most of childhood can include breastfeeding.

Bugsy2 · 17/11/2005 11:26

Nice to hear your story Gran of James. I do think we are very stressed out these days by the endless guidelines and recommendations. I know they are trying to be helpful, but I think sometimes they make new insecure mums completely safety obsessed - they did me!

blueshoes · 17/11/2005 12:23

Bugsy2 ... or make new insecure mums buy products that they don't need.

Dust off food that has fallen on the floor and give it right back to dd.
