Hurrah! Return of the AC!

AC, I had the first serious conversation about stopping contraception with my DP nearly 2 years ago, doesn't time fly when you're having fun?

Your colleague is clearly a clutz.

It's good to have you back. I think the nice thing about this thread is the balance of perspectives on it, no we're not all simultaneously going through the same thing but that can get a bit bonkers, can't it? I mean, in RL we don't ONLY have friends who are all waiting to TTC or going through the 2WW or have newborns or whatever and we manage...And we've all got stuff to moan about and I don't think anybody minds - this way we get a nice variety of moaning about different things!

Bebe, had minibebe gone to preschool? My facebook is full of people whose children are off to school this year!

100 yeah let's have labourwatch!
SPR glad you had a good holiday. My run of cancelling holidays threatens to continue - I've got a work thing that's come up that is threatening a short citybreak we've got planned with DP's parents, BOO! Trying to think of a good lie to force work to be flexible, it's only 1 three-hour session for gods sake!...what do you all reckon? Truth is it's DP's mum's birthday and she's flying us out to Italy for a treat. What's a good foolproof lie??

I've had an attack of the craftiness over here and have started making soft-toy owls for all the babies popping up around me. Have 4 to do, the first one took me all of Sunday afternoon! I'm quite pleased with him though...

bebejones · 06/09/2011 09:57

Ooooh, Quod, share a piccie of the owl? Pretty please?!

minibebe started an afternoon a week of preschool after Easter, but now she is doing 2 full days & a half day a week! She was SO tired yesterday after pre-school 9-1 then ballet in the afternoon! Think she is going to be knackered today! :o

100 - How you feeling today? Are you nicely rested? Any signs? Time to break out the pineapple & Chicken madras?

100years · 06/09/2011 09:58

Hey MrsS. :) All OK at the moment, yes it's frustrating, but to be honest it's not like I can make it happen any sooner, and trying to stay calm and relaxed will help things along. Hope the new term starts well.

bebe, I don't want it to be thursday, then I have to go and see the docs at the hosp tomorrow and I have to wait decking ages there and there are some really awful people who also go to that hosp! (snob emoticon)

SPR, hey, did you have a good holiday? LOL at labour watch. Sorry you had some sickness on holiday, hopefully it will ease off soon.

AC Grin yay welcome back, and we as bebe says do not have any problems with you moaning - we've all been in the waiting camp. And next time your colleague says anything like that tell them to 'go bollocks' Stupid men.

Quod, re craftiness the soft owls sound lovely, can we have pics? I've just put a pic up on my profile of the blanket I've made the LO, it's not quite as dark as it appears and the edges do match up, I was just lazy when taking the pic.

Waiting for the midwife to come round and see me. Woke with a headache and a weird pain near my ribs, but I get headaches so it's probably nothing and the rib pain could have been a positional thing. Hopefully she will find nothing wrong, sweep me again and declare me to be 10cm and ready to push - this will not actually happen, but I will be a tad disappointed if I am still the same as I was last week!

OP posts:
Quodlibet · 06/09/2011 11:28

OK have tried to put owl on my profile. Let me know if you can see it.

bebejones · 06/09/2011 12:24

Quod - can't see your profile! :(

100 - So when are you hoping for? Before or after Thursday?

Quodlibet · 06/09/2011 12:30

OK how about now?! Thought you could upload photos without having a visible profile but clearly not!

bebejones · 06/09/2011 12:39

Oh Quod!!! He is ADORABLE!!!! How cute! (I'm a sucker for crafty stuff! Wink)

Quodlibet · 06/09/2011 13:20

Ah thanks, glad you like him! Hoping the others will take less time now I've created the pattern and learned how not to do it! I always think I like sewing and then end up swearing and cursing at my machine within a couple of hours.

ShaggingProducesResults · 06/09/2011 13:52

Super cute owl Quod!!!
I have been thinking about learning to crochet and having had the morning I have had in the office today I think I might need it as a replacement activitiy for drinking wine!!!

Found out this morning that the 2 other PAs are leaving because they are so fed up with it here. One goes on 16th and the other on 30th so I am going to be left in the crap.

There are some big events/projects happening in Oct/Nov and I am freaking out at having to cope with it all!! The temp they had to cover my sick leave is staying on for 6 months but I'm pretty sure we won't be getting anyone else (they are so tight with money and if they can get away with overloading current staff then they will!!!) and so we will be working flat out to try and cover 3 people's roles just when I was hoping to be able to start winding down. I'm dreading it!!!

Quodlibet · 06/09/2011 14:53

Oh yuck SPR, that's rubbish. I used to temp as a PA and often ended up in situations like that where they were too tight to recruit the number of people it actually takes to do the job, ridiculous isn't it? You have to be really strategic about not trying to be superwoman and absorbing it all, and instead try to hand their problem back to them by saying "well unfortunately that can't be done/we have to prioritise either A or B, because there aren't enough people to do it all". Is there any way you can raise with your line manager now that you think workflows are going to become unmanageable and ask to discuss how collectively it will be dealt with if they won't hire?

100years · 06/09/2011 15:15

CUTE owl Quod :) Very good :) I think once you know how to do something the second, third etc times do take less.

bebe, definitely before, especially before tomorrow so I don't have the possibility of encountering the horrid doc I saw once. Once, the rest of them have been lovely, it was just the one doc. Hey ho.

Bummer SPR, just what you didn't want to go back to work to I daresay.

MW has been. Am not 2-3 cm, possibly 3 cm dilated. Head is practically fully engaged, only 1/5 out now! Woohoo, she's getting there. Had a bit of blood after the sweep, hoping it does it's job and gets me properly going now. Had a bad hour earlier in tears, bit hormonal and irrational, but thankfully after a blub at OH and at the mw I am feeling better now, especially as I know things are moving, albeit very slowly, there is some progress.

AND

the fridge freezer is now here and fitted :) Yay, got the phone call halfway through the mw visit, thankfully OH is working from home so he could let them in instead of me having to stop what I was doing/having done. :)

ShaggingProducesResults · 06/09/2011 15:37

Hurrah for the fridge freezer!! Maybe she was waiting for it to be delivered before putting in an arrival?!?!? perhaps try walking up and down the stairs tonight in the hope that will get things moving!!

The job front is a nightmare! Sadly my line manager is one of the PAs leaving. I think that I am just going to have to be pretty stubborn and just do what I can and then the rest will have to wait or be done by someone else. As you said, I'm not superwoman and I really couldn't give a shit about the job or the people (only staying for the shitty statutory maternity pay!!!)

100years · 06/09/2011 15:44

Yeah I did keep saying she was waiting for the FF, and was hoping that it wasn't going to be the end of the week before that arrived and therefore baby arrived! I think we are going to go and do an actual food shop later, we normally get stuff delivered, but as we don't know what's happening with the LO as to when she will arrive it might be better to go and physically do a shop and then no worries about having to cancel delivery of food. Maybe it will all kick off in the shop! Yes, don't put too much on yourself at work, do what you can, you get no thanks for doing more than that.

OP posts:
bebejones · 06/09/2011 15:58

I had typed a big reply but left laptop unattended for 5mins & DD has deleted it!! Hmm

bebejones · 06/09/2011 16:02

100 - After I had my sweep I went out for a long walk with my mum. Contractions started about 8 hours later! Yay for FF!!! :o

SPR - That is totally rubbish! You have to have a risk assesment thing at work (can't remember official name) you must make sure you don't take on too much.

Quodlibet · 06/09/2011 16:16

Hurrah for the fridge freezer!
DP, in a cheerful mood after finalising the last creative bits of his big project this week, is currently defrosting ours Shock.

Yes SPR that's the spirit! If you don't get emotionally caught up in the impossibility of doing everything then at least you can put it all down at the end of the day and relax properly. Any mileage in negotiating more pay to take on some of your line manager's responsibilities? Especially if you think you'll be doing some of them anyway? Would that give you more maternity pay?

AmandaCooper · 06/09/2011 20:36

Yes 100years try walking downstairs to get things out of the fridge freezer and then upstairs eating them, make sure she gets the reassurance she needs that well refrigerated and frozen food is available on tap and it's now a great time to be born! By far my favourite old wives tale for getting labour started is the one where you sit on the loo to spread your pelvis and read erotic fiction to get the serotonin flowing. Couple that with eating a Calipso lolly or a Feast and you'll be at 10cm before you know it!

Quod that is a cute little owl! I've made tag toy gifts for some of my mummy friends before. Love making stuff for babies . Least maternal person eh?! What rubbish.

I didn't really take a break because of all my moaning - well I did but it wasn't the only reason. I wanted to stop obsessing and DH had asked me to try coming off MN to see if I would snap out of it. It worked to some extent so I think it's been a healthy break, but recently I've just wanted to see how you guys are all doing - and when I saw someone had lapped me on the waiting thread I was like "well I have to tell someone who gets it!"

SPR you have my deepest sympathy I am desperate to get out of my job and every fantasise about just walking out. It's easy to say don't take on too much but very difficult to actually set those boundaries.

100years · 07/09/2011 06:51

Few niggly pains off and on, and a few going round the supermarket but nothing since. yawns tired as I've been to the loo a million times in the night.

Stubbed toe in the night on the bed and said OW loudly, woke OH up with a start! Poor thing, had to apologise really quickly that it was a) my toes and b) nothing happening.

AC I love the sound of that old wives tale, I have a loo, a 'good book', lollies in the freezer, yeah, maybe I'll try that later

WYorksLass · 07/09/2011 11:20

Hi all, managed to pop in quickly as dh is holding the baby!

Things going great so far. We are getting very little sleep but it doesn't seem to matter. We were discharged from the midwife yesterday and have been to register his birth this morning.

Sorry, no photo yet, i can't work out how to pload one from my ipad.

100 years, i had absolutely no labour symptoms before my waters broke in the night. The day before my mum and sister came over with loads of fab food so i spent the day slobbing around eating. Oh yes and trouncing them at scrabble, maybe you could try that!

ShaggingProducesResults · 07/09/2011 12:19

Yay!! Congrats WYorks! I have no idea if I already knew that Mini WYorks had arrived and have forgotten it or if he/she arrived recently so sorry if I sound like a dunce!!

Quodlibet · 08/09/2011 10:37

100, are there any LabourWatch updates?
One of my best friends was due yesterday too so I feel really on the edge of my seat waiting for the babies!

ShaggingProducesResults · 08/09/2011 12:40

Come on 100........ we're all waiting with baited breath!!!

100years · 08/09/2011 13:09

Sorry everyone, no news from this camp. I have had some twinges this morning and decided that it was time to start timing them, only for it all to quiet down again and me to have only have had 3 'pains?' in the past hour. Ah well, maybe it's just starting REALLY slowly.

Am booked for induction next Tuesday, so long as there is a bed available for me, but hoping it doesn't come to that.

Like I posted before if you are friends on FB, please only put questions about it in here as opposed to on FB, I kind of like the fact that here is a bit more private.

OP posts:
bebejones · 08/09/2011 14:00

100 - Give her a bit of a prod!! Wink She's obviously far too comfy!! :o

100years · 08/09/2011 14:44

I think she might be.

However the pains are coming a little bit more frequently now, so fingers crossed, last few pains have been at 8 mins, 10 mins, 10 mins, 15 mins, 5 mins, 12 mins, 9 mins, 16 mins.

I'm going to go out for a walk now, and then come back and have a bath and see if things have kicked of for real then, this could be a long day/few days! I'm still not convinced all of the 'pains' are contractions because they are more like just my belly going really tight more than BH were, but some mild pain with them, except for one which was properly OMG! We shall see, I might still be saying this in 2 days time, so no excitement yet!
